SNAP 2011 cut-offs slide, SIBM Pune posts highest cut-off at 91.75
The Symbiosis National Aptitude (SNAP) test takers of 2011 can heave a sigh of relief as all the management institutes under the Symbiosis International University (SIU) have posted their first shortlists based on cut-offs that are lower than those in the previous year.
The total assessment this year was out of 175 marks instead of 180 as five questions were deemed to be cancelled due to errors in the test paper.
No b-school under SIU has a cut-off higher than 91.75, unlike last year when the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Pune and Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development (SCMHRD), Pune had open category cut-offs higher than 100.
After SNAP 2011, many coaching institutes had predicted that the cut-offs could slide because of a difficult test. The slide in cut-offs was anticipated because the test was difficult this year compared to the previous year. The Logic and Reasoning section (LR) and General Knowledge (GK) on which many engineering students bank on to score higher were found to be the toughest, said Hitesh Devalia, director and co-founder, Ahmedabad’s Endeavor Careers. Predictions on the SNAP 2011: Exam Analysis & Discussions poll thread too had indicated similar cutoffs.
Explaining the rationale behind the slide in the cut-off, Dr Vivek Sane, director of SIBM said, Based on the assessment of the number of applicants each year, we maintain an approximate ratio of 1:7 or 1:9 for the group discussion and interview round.
Dr Anil Keskar, dean of academics at SIU said, We acknowledge that the test this year was tougher and hence individual institutes have declared lower cut-offs. However, the university is confident of finding good students for various management institutes.
He also said, The interview shortlist for Symbiosis Institute of Telecom Management (SITM) is out, but the cut-offs will be declared in a week’s time.
