UPSC CAPF – Assistant Commandant 2018 PET Process

UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) is a constitutional body that conducts UPSC CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) to make a merit-based selection for recruitment of Gazetted Officers, Subordinate Officers, and Constables. CAPF refers to the uniform nomenclature of seven security forces in India which comes under the Ministry of Home Affairs Authority. The admissions for all the three postings will be done purely on the basis of the candidates satisfying the eligibility conditions as prescribed by the authority for examination. The candidates willing to apply for UPSC CAPF must be aware of the required details that will be available on the official website of the UPSC.

The selection process of UPSC CAPF:

The selection process will consist of 4 stages. They are Written Examination, Physical Efficiency Test (PET) the Interview/ Personality Test and Final Selection/ Merit. the candidates should clear all the above-mentioned stages in order to get recruited for UPSC CAPF.

Selection Process for UPSC CAPF:

Written Examination:

Written Examination is the first stage in the UPSC CAPF recruitment process. The exams will be conducted in various centers across India. Following is the exam pattern for CAPF:

Objective- the paper I General Ability & Intelligence 250
Descriptive- Paper II General Studies, Essay & Comprehension 200

The candidates must score the minimum qualifying marks in both the papers. It will be decided by the authority itself. And one more point to be noted by the candidates is that only by qualifying in paper-I the descriptive paper (Paper-II) of the candidates will be evaluated. Only by qualifying in the written exam, the candidates will be allowed to appear for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET).

Physical Efficiency Test (PET):

PET is the second round in the UPSC CAPF examination. The candidates who have qualified in the written exam will be called for the Physical Standards or Physical Efficiency Test and the medical Standards test. The candidates qualifying in PET will be eligible to attend the Medical Standards test. This test will be separate for both male and female candidates. Following are the details of PET:

Male candidates:

  • The male candidates must be able to run a 100 meters race in 16 seconds.
  • secondly, 800 Meters race in 3 minutes 45 seconds.
  • Next is the Long Jump for 3.5 Meters which must be completed in 3 possibilities.
  • Finally, ShotPut which will weigh 7.26 kgs to be carried for 4.5 meters.

Female Candidates:

  • The female candidates must be able to run a 100 meters race in 18 seconds.
  • Next is the 800 Meters race that must be completed in 4 minutes 45 seconds.
  • Next will be Long Jump that will be for 3 meters which should be completed in 3 chances.
  • Shotput test is not applicable to female candidates.

The candidates must note that for female candidates, in case of pregnancy PET will not be allowed to be performed. This will result in disqualification of the candidates. Qualifying in the PET will allow the candidates to appear for the Medical Test. Here, a Government Medical officer will conduct some Medical Tests as per the Commission’s Guidelines. The candidates appealing to the Appellate Authority against the Medical Standards Test will only be entertained within a period of 15 days from the date of declaration of result of the above-mentioned tests as designated by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The candidates qualifying in both the PET and Medical Standards test will be allowed for the Interview/ Personality test.

Interview/ Personality Test:

This will be an important step in the CAPF selection process. The Interview/ Personality Test will carry 150 marks in total. The candidates who appeal against the Medical Test if they are declared as disqualified in the Medical Test will be allowed to appear for this process before the “Review Medical Board” provisionally.

Final Selection/ Merit:

The merit list will be published by the authority based on the marks obtained by the candidates qualifying in the written exam and the Interview/Personality test. This will be the final round in the CAPF selection procedure. The candidates listed in the merit list by the Commission will be recruited for the CAPF posts.
