WORLDWIDE BUSINESS SCHOOL PREPARE FOR THE 2013 ROLEX MBA REGATTA

23 boat crews from schools including Harvard, MIT, HEC, IESE and London Business School will compete in the event organized by SDA Bocconi with Yacht Club Italiano and Rolex, in the Mediterranean at Santa Margherita on September 27-29.

From 27 to 29 September MBA students from the world’s most important business schools will compete in the Rolex MBA’s Conference & Regatta 2013, event organized in Santa Margherita Ligure, on the Mediterranean coast in Italy, by Yacht Club Italiano and the Sailing Club of SDA Bocconi school of management in partnership with Rolex. Around 350 MBA students from more than 70 different countries will participate in this 2013 edition, the 12th, of the regatta – for three days of sailing, networking, debate and social events – which will host 23 of the best business schools in the world, many of which top the international rankings:

SDA Bocconi (Italy) – Chicago Booth (USA) – Columbia (USA) – Cranfield (UK) – Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (Switzerland) – ESADE (Spain) – Goethe Business School (Germany) – Harvard (USA) – HEC (France) – HKUST (Hong Kong) – IE (Spain) – IESE (Spain) – INSEAD (France/Singapore) – Kellogg-WHU (USA/Germany) – London Business School (UK) – Manchester Business School (UK) – MIT (USA) – Rotterdam School of Management (Holland) – Sauder (Cansda) – Singapore National University (Singapore) – Tuck (USA) – Warwick (UK) – Wharton (USA).

Students will have two days of racing in identical boats in their 8 member crews on Friday and Saturday. The competition will conclude on Sunday with a Match Race (regatta in which the boats will compete head to head). Apart from the sailing, for the students it also represents a chance to experience how to manage and work within a team, while for the MBA students of the SDA Bocconi Sailing Club it is the result of 12 months hands-on experience in all aspects of organizing such a major event – from involving sponsors to the logistics of hosting 350 MBA students in a small seaside town.

The Rolex MBA’s Conference & Regatta also represents an opportunity to create and exchange ideas and culture between today’s leaders and future managers. On Saturday 28th the students will participate in the conference “Communicating the impossible: New Challenges offered by the Global Crisis” with Lauralee Martin, CEO Americas at Jones Lang LaSalle, Sergio Bertolucci, Director of Research and Scientific Computing at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and Marshall L. Stocker, adventure capitalist
