The Department of Commerce of the University of Delhi offers comprehensive courses in Management & Commerce. There are 04 courses offered at present, and admissions are mostly based on entrance.
Admission and entrance applications are available online. Course wise admission details are as follows:
- MBA in International Business (IB) and Human Resource Development (HRD) admissions are based on scores in CAT followed by GD / PI and academic performance.
- While international students must qualify for either CAT or XAT or MAT or GMAT along with TOEFL or IELTS to be eligible for MBA admissions.
- M.Com admissions are either based on DUET scores or based on scores in B.Com (H) or B.Com (P).
- Ph.D in Commerce admissions are also either based on merit with master’s or M.Phil degree with scores in NET or JRF.
- Or Ph.D admissions are based on entrance conducted by the Department of Commerce as per guidelines set by Delhi University.
The Department of Commerce functions under the Delhi School of Economics, an academic unit of the University of Delhi. The D-School of Economics or DSE was set up in 1948 with four different departments including that of Commerce.
This Department was officially christened in 1967 and is well known for its professional, comprehensive and academic programs in Management and Commerce disciplines.

Eligibility Criteria
Indian Candidates:
- Passed bachelor’s degree in any discipline with 50% aggregate. Relaxation for reserved category students is as per university rules.
- Candidates in the final year of study are also eligible to apply. But they will be permanently admitted after they submit their final mark sheets.
International Candidates
- The candidates must have passed the 10+2+3 education level with 50% or equivalent CGPA score.
- They must have studied Mathematics at graduation or high school level compulsorily.

There are two categories through which an applicant can decide to apply for admission:
CATEGORY A: Direct or Merit Based Admission
*B.Com (H) from University of Delhi:
- 65% marks in aggregate for General Category
- 58.5% for OBC Category

Entrance Exam Pattern
The DU Entrance or DUET is 2 hours long carrying 400 marks in total. Each of the Four units carry equal weights.
- The syllabus for the entrance is based on the B.Com (H) course offered at University of Delhi.
- Each question carries 4 marks and 1 mark deduction for each wrong answer.
- There is a written test which will test 100 MCQs and 25 questions from the following areas:
- Economics (Micro Economics, Macro Economics, Problems of Indian Economy)
- Accounting (including Financial Accounting, Corporate Accounting, Cost Accounting, and Management Accounting)
- Business Statistics and Mathematics
- Business Organization, Management, Business Law, Company Law and Income Tax Law
Admission Process
Applications are commonly accepted via DU PG Admission Portal. The candidates are required to follow the steps for application submission:
- Register on DU PG Admission Portal.
- Login with the credentials to access the application form.
- Fill in the necessary details
- Select ‘Department of Commerce’ in the colleges option.
- Select either merit based on entrance based or both for admission selection.

Merit Based Admission:
The eligibility criteria is as follows:
- Applicants must have completed master’s or M.Phil with 55% aggregate.
- Teachers of Delhi University are also eligible to apply.
- Applicants qualified for CSIR / UGC-NET / JRF, DBT-JRF, ICMR-JRF, DST-INSPIRE are exempted from appearing for the department entrance exam.
- These candidates can directly appear for the interview.
- Candidates awaiting their results in these entrances can also apply.
- The selections will be based on:
- UG marks: 10%
- Post-Graduation marks: 20%
- M.Phil. Completion: 20%
- JRF qualified applicants: 10 %
- Teaching Experience: 10%
- Interview: 30%
Entrance Based Admission:
- Applicants with 50% aggregate in master’s must apply through this criteria.
- They must appear for the entrance conducted by the Department, under DU guidelines.
- Upon meeting the cutoff and qualifying for the entrance, applicants will be called for the interview round.
- The selection for admission is based on
- 70% weightage in entrance
- 30% weightage in interview.
