hi ..
i jst took the " Financial Markets: A Beginners' Module..
its good for pppl who dunno anything abt fin markets etc ...
its very easy ... hardly takes 2-3 days to go thru the book even if u dunno anythhing .... go for it ..
ull get the basics ..
remaining modules like derivatives n all .. are a little bit challenging .... need sm knowledge / prep
i thnk MF / derivatives can be taken .. later on
if u r interested in finance as a major .. i think u shud go for them .. will give basics clearly
hi to all..
i am intersted in HR as major, but i have started studying the basic module,as i want to have these certifications with me to add in the resume as well as have basic idea relating to financial markets,as i have no knowledege regarding the same, being from medical background......
will these be useful even if i am interested in another steream as major, means hr????
I has a look at study material for Financial Markets: A Beginners' Module.
Its very basic but good for begning.
I am looking forward to give this exam. however there is no date till April end.
Lets see I ll give it in May
Broadly, if u are an absolute lay(wo)man, Beginners' Module is recommended to begin with.. otherwise Securities Mkt Basic Module can be treated as the launchpad, which would give fair idea of many other modules too.. and then u can think which one to go for suiting ur career/academic interest..
Hi buck_was
I think i posted my query in some other forum too. Here it is:

I am engineering student and from past 2months I have been applying to finance firms(entry level posts) from past 2 months but still no reply from them. One would not want to include kumble in their team if they have murlidharan.
Same case applies here.Every one is redundant in takin engineers in entry level posts in financial firms. So I am thinking of doing certification courses from NCFM (NSE india) so that it can show that im interested and serious towards working in financial firms.Moreoever certification can help me in gaining an insight knowledge in finance.
What say puys ? Wil it be of any use ? and Is it actually required ??
Guide :(:(:(

To answer in ur own analogy , NCFM certi's wont turn a Kumble (non-Fin) into a Murali (Fin).. however, it/they may make you edge past similar fellow leggies (BE with ur kinda work-ex)..
Companies usually don't hire non-MBA, non-CFA techies (with tech work-ex) into Fin Services.. simply 'cos of the sense of insecurity (attrition) and resulting resource (time spent in training) loss.. moreover, the typical pay-scales for a fresher (for Fin, u'll effectively be a freshie) n other benefits are not as lucrative as in the IT sector (with work-ex)..
Moreoever certification can help me in gaining an insight knowledge in finance.Correction.. knowledge of markets

Chances of getting a break shall increase, but shall still not brighten enough, unless u go for a clutch of papers..
And yes, for some specific profiles, some of the certificates are mandatory..
I want to go for the beginner's module first... although most of the info is available on their website..
my query is wht's the level of the paper.. easy(wich I dnt think), average or difficult..
hw much preparation time does it need ??? ( i knw it differs frm person to person, still a rough idea)
thanxx in advance
:) !!!!!!

can u expalin the "clutch of papers"..and wat profiles are u referring to..
I ahve heard some IT guys try CFA after joining MBA....do u think thats a better idea or
getting these certificates should suffice...i am talking about getting jobs(fin) during MBA

To be honest, sitter of a paper.. u ought to take it to agree with me :)
I think, even if u r a newbie for such stuff, 2-3 days of going thru the book twice, and taking the online model paper shud suffice..
@worthless.. "clutch of papers" == some certificates/modules
Profile-based modules - Securities Mkt, Derivatives, AMFI Advisors, Depositary Participant, Capital Mkt Dealers, Info Security Auditors, Commodities, Compliance.
CFA definitely has much greater value than these certificates.. there's no comparison, actually.. CFA is a long-term course n u get a shot a year (3 levels in

Hi,
Some of these exams do act as a licensiate exam, if u want to work in Indian Capital Markets. So that makes them mandatory to pursue.
Although these certificates dont give an edge to your profile, but u will definitely fall out - if you dont have these certificates.
I am damn sure, majority of your batch mates will be having these certificates, so go for these exam to have a level playing field with ur batchmates. So dont think twice and enroll for these exams.
Some of the must gives are
1. Derivatives Market (Toughest of the whole bunch)
3. Securities Market
4. Debt Markets
5. Capital Markets (NSE Licensiate exam)
6. Depository
2. Mutual Funds (AMFI Licensiate exam)
Try to score above 85% in all the NCFM exams that u give.
cheers,
Shyam
