Hii Puys,

I am a graduate of 1 year programme. I had couple of years of experience in a leading IT company of India before joining the 1 year programme in 2008 from Europe Asia Business School in Pune:biggrin:.

Currently, I am working as Manager in Dubai in a leading retail company managing their operations in entire MENA region.

Before joining 1 year programme, I had an option of joining a 2 year programme from another Pune institute, but I decided to join the 1 year a shot. I applied to few other 1 year PGP courses like SPJain (Dubai) and ISB(Hyd).

There are lot of my former colleagues from Infy and my juniors from engg college calling me to find out the benefits of 1 year PGP over 2 year PGP. I thought why not everybody should be benefitted from this thread.

Here is some snapshot of my research from internet:

As per the AICTE/UGC websites the total number of colleges offering 2 year PGP are around 3000 (Three thousand only and counting....)

Whereas as per the popular reports the colleges offering 1 year PGP are handful ...... list:

- Indian School of Business (ISB) - Hyderabad
- IIM-A (PGPX)
- IIM-B
- IIM-C
- XLRI
- MDI
- SPJain (Dubai, Singapore)
- Great Lakes, Chennai
- Europe Asia Business School (EABS), Pune
- Mumbai Business School (MBS), Mumbai
- School of Inspirational Leadership (SOIL), Gurgoan
- IMI, NewDelhi
- Wellingkar's, Mumbai
- NMIMS, Mumbai

(Have i missed something from the list ...... plz add)

In all not more than 25-30 colleges are offering 1 year PGP. Most of the European colleges like Oxford, Cambridge, IMD, HEC, ESSADE etc offers 1 year MBA for many years. The 2 year format is getting jaded over the period of time....

Let us start this debate of 1 year vs 2 year MBA ........ !!
Cheers!!

Havard Business School Professor David Garvin says 2 year MBA programms are losing its charms.

Out of 35 top European colleges 22 offers 1 year programmes and 2 offers 10 months MBA programme.

Primarily US universities are still following the traditional model. However, he feels the they will be outdated soon.

That's a good post.. its been a long time since I started looking for a proper MBA for myself.. I have around 4.5 yrs of IT experience and have decided to look for an executive MBA... but the problem is which B school to go for... either the school asks for a huge fees or a lot more experience... anybody with similar requirements?

I would suggest you to look for a good quality full time 1 year MBA or a part-time MBA.

I would agree the cost of the MBA in India slowly rising with ISB leading the pack with 20 lakhs of fees .........:nono:.

You can look for other schools like GLIM in Chennai www.glim.edu or EABS in Pune www.eabs.ac.in . Both schools are charging in the range of 6 lakhs to 8 lakhs for the fees (which is affordable). You should try to calculate the ROI:

Fees of MBA + Opportunity Cost = 2/3 years of expected salary after MBA

This way you can pay your education loan in 3-5 years time with sufficient money to save and enjoy life...

Happy Applying :)

Jai,

this seems to be a new school ..... i have no clue. Check out its official blog or speak to alumni before taking the decision.

I have browsed through the faculty profile, most of them for Telecom domain. It seems telecom is their strength.

There are other good schools offering 1 year MBA, refer to my earlier posts for the comprehensive list.

HBK,

I have complied the list of schools offering 1 year MBA in my first post. You can refer to the list. I graduated out of EABS in Pune, so .... you can consider them if you wish.

If you have 2-3 years of experience, there is no point of doing a SLOW 2 year program ......... (until you do it from IIMs) ........ opt for the new age 1 year program and start your corporate career before most of colleagues .

Cheers!!

Hi..

I checked out few web sites today including IMI, MDI, IMT ...
All demand 5 years work-ex..

Can u tell me colleges that ask 2 years of work-ex..?

hii there........

I wanted to ask is the credibility of the 1yr. MBA or PGD is same as that of 2 yr. course, keeping in mind for the freshers.

As, even NIRD (national institute of rural development) provides 1 yr. PGD in rural development, whereas other colleges prominently IRMA's course is of 2 yrs.,
and even NIRD doesn't have any eligibility criteria of work experience...(and is a central govt. institute).

yes, you are right. Majority of the schools offering regular 2 year program and recently started 1 year program requires 5 years + experience (otherwise no body will join their 2 year regular slow program .

Look for new age institutes like GLIM, MBS or the one I am graduate of Europe Asia B School (Pune, Gurgoan). They may consider candidates with your kind of experience.

Hope this helps ...... cheers!!

Nitin,

The b school from India figuring in top 50 in the world is ISB (which is offering the 1 year PGD) ......... I think this answer the questions of 1 year program vs 2 year MBA

The purpose of this thread is to make students aware about the choices 1 year MBA is offering by saving another precious year of their lives and lot of money.

Cheeeers!!

Its quite true.....but ISB also has a eligibility criteria of min. work ex. ....
& thats why my query was just fr freshers....

I know that 1 yr. MBA saves a precious 1 year but isn't it true that most of them ask fr at least some work ex. ...

& this makes me quite anxious as I am a fresher and thinking about it that will it be right fr me to join 1yr. course instead of 2 yr. one...

being fresher is not a tabu man ..... :drinking::drinking:

try try until you get into MBA .... dont give up. Talk to the admission counsellor of few institutes i have give the list ..... or you can post the query for the admission head here ....

Hi Friends,
This is a very nice thread, thanks to Rahul for starting it and other members who are constructively shaping it.
With 2 years of years of work experience and 3 CATs I am in the same dilemma.
First of all we need to understand 1 year MBA.
1 year MBA is usually perceived as an executive MBA which is totally wrong, it is just another MBA squeezed to fit in an year, Now the question is how?
People who go for a 1 year MBA are required to have minimum of two year of work experience after graduation and which I believe is a must since how will a fresh graduate just out of college will understand intricacies of business world through generalized one year classroom teaching?
If you are a fresh graduate and going for a 1 year MBA then your life in the corporate jungle will be same as that of a fighter pilot given simulator training and asked to fight enemy with real jets only difference being your life is not at stake, but your career is.
The IIM As one year PGPX and ISBs one year PGP are two entirely different program, PGPX is a general management program for the senior executives who are already well versed with their core industry and they need quantam jump in the same industry, where as ISBs PGP is a fast track highly compressed MBA program where participant come to change their industry / function and sometimes both.

Lets pour in.
Thanks.

Not much for freshers, an MBA is already a generalized degree and in one year program there is very less scope specialization, onewill come out higly unprepared.Just my view.

Lets pour in.
Thanks.
