Time: 1 pm - 6pm
Step 1: Original CAT score card along with CAT score card was verified with your any original identity proof.
Step 2: Essay: There were two topic and you have to choose any one to write.
1, Is india mixed economy solution to world recession problem (Some thing like that i dont remember exact)
2, Is media in india is truth or sensalization.
timing 15 min. one page, front and back.
Step 3: GD, actually it was a case study. A case study based on a employee with 10 year work experience in satyam. What should he do. join mba or other company or continue. there was a one page detail. its only a abstract.
total time: 30 Min, first 2 min read the case. each member (total 12) was given 1.5 min than it was open to forum.
i think we done fairly well as we reach some conclusion. i gave some 2 -3 good point and also direction to the discussion. also got chance to summarize it.
Step 4: PI, As expected i gone with open mind and discussion went from one topic to another with no logical link.
there were two panelist, one lady (P1, not so friendly) and one gentleman (P2,he was really gentleman)
P2: Show me your profile.
me:gave.
p1: so you have to actch train, where you going. (Actually i to catch train so gave interview before my original sequence)
p2: so you work with mindtree.
me: yes sir.
p1: so suborto bagchi(one of the co founder), have u read his latest book. can u tell me the name.
me: yes madam, its "go kiss the workd"(i actually read the book).
p1: what its all about.
me: its about a 40 year experience of his professional life. how a person started from middle class to top notch of company by doing his work effectively n with integrity.
p2: so what integrity there.
me: sir, actually mindtree is co founded by ten ppl. gave more gyan on integrity.
p2: what your work profile in mindtree.
me: i am in embedded software group.
p2: what exactly u do.
me: i work on device driver. gave some more gyan on it.
p2: ok if i have 4 different embedded prodcut how will u rat them on which basis or criteria.
me: gave answer.
p1: ok, do u read novel.
me: not much.
p1: newspaper
me: yes.
p1: what the inflation rate now?
me: gave answer.
p2: what dollar vs rupee.
me: gave answer.
p2: how i dont find price coming down even inflation has come to 3 % from 11%.
me: gave some gyan.
p2: who measure inflation which body.
me: i dont knw sir but i must be some government body.
p2: why u want to change from embedded to IB.
me: some gyan again.
p1: that all, you can go. thank you
me: thank you.
Don't know how was it. no mark card checking. no question from profile.lets wait and watch.
I just reached back from b'lore.will post a detailed version later.
Venue : Bangalore
Time : 13:00
Since puys have previously explained the initials bits, let me just cut to the chase.
As soon as a case study is given we are given two mins to read it and then they start calling out random numbers to speak for 3/2 minutes.
I was the penultimate person to be called and just had to rehash what has already been beaten to death by the 10 other people before me.
After this, we were called to our interviews. The panels differ from the GD.
We had two male profs(P1,P2).
They looked at my marks (10th,12th,grad till now) and P2 asked me why are the marks decreasing like this-for which P1 gave an answer i don't exactly recall.
After this the onslaught began.
P2 kept smiling while P1 did the crucification(smilingly)
I was questioned SO extensively on my acads that i almost felt like i was there to get admission into an M.tech course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This went on and on and on.
After this,P1 says-well we've learnt enough about you . We realize how much you've STUDIED your engineering and now you want to STUDY an MBA?
I realized that since they have completely ripped me apart with acads there was no point in being gloomy as well. I just smiled back and said:Not study sir, learn.
All through P2 kept quiet, with the only constant thing being his smile.
I think he almost felt sorry for me :)
There was not a single question from my profile sheet. NOT EVEN ONE. I doubt they even read it.Had taken pains to write it ..Oh well !!
All through my crazy answering they were laughing.
Whether it was with me or at me is anybody's guess.
So,there you go.Thats my story.
How did u write in the form about questions like why mba and strengths and etc. the space is less. can we attach sheets . if yes do they have to be handwritten or printed.
Well puys ,
I had my GD yesterday at 1 p.m. slot
Cat :96.89
exp: 3 years in IT.
We were ushered into 1 large room initially & then verification. It was confusing.they only saw the cat admit & scorecard & profile sheet.
then essay . Nothing much into it .
Essays were: Can rural India save us from recession
or
How the internal security agencies should be managed
Wrote the first one Anyway we were taken into one room at ground floor where we had the GD & PI .We were 12 people .
Case was on UDUPI & MACD .how as a consultant to udupi restaurants we can help . Basically what failed restaurants should do to promote themselves.!!!
After the intial 1.5 minute intro our GD become like a Parliament .There were two guys (one with specs & another one from satyam with two buttons of his shirt open(I don't know how somebody can come like that) who fought with each other like Matix movie .they were shouting at the top of their voice with tradition and non-tradition . 5-6 mins passed in that only.Anyways I spoke twice or thrice, gave some relevant point & tried to moderate once.
After the GD was over we were rushed in the same room for our PI.
I was 5th in the slot.
Two professors P1 & P2
P1: So what you where doing outside? You already know the questions we asked
Me: Talking to one guy regarding our GD and how could we have done better.(Actually we were doing that)
P1 :Something about yourself
Me:Blah BLah
P2: Which engineering have you done
Me:electronics & Instrumentation
P2:What is the difference between precision & calibration.
Me:Somehow manged to answer
P2:What is tolerance
Me: Again somehow managed
P2: (Seemed satisfied)
P1:What books dou you read
Me: Chetan Bhagat ,Dan Brown,Amitava sen
P1 :Asked questions on five point someone
We hd some discussion on that .
P2:so you think bunking classess are ok
Me:I said it is fine if the person enjoys that moment.Actually I told him ultimately we want to be happy.
P1:He asked whether you have bunked in engineering or not:
Me:No
P1Why not
Me:scored poorly in 12th standard .
so decided to be serious with my studies.
P2:Tell me your job profile.
Me: spoke to them for about a minute
P2:Your work profile seems to be great .Why MBA in operations
Me:Spoke about it.
P2:But so many IT people wants to do MBA :Why
Me:Spoke about it.Seemed very satisfied.
P1:Asked me about my integrity & ethics.
Me:spoke about my work & values
P1:Something about my family.
Me:Blah blah 7 told that my family also has founded an NGO and manages it.spoke length 7 breath about it
P1:Asked what I have done for that
Me:Told that I am developing website for the NGO .
P1:Thank you.
Overall it was about 15 to 20 mins.
Pretty lengthy one.
How dou you rate puys.....
Woooo.....
Talking about me in GD......
Well, sorry if i ruined anything, but taking charge of the events and leading comes to me naturally.

7th march, PESIT blore
reached at 12.30
asked to wait til 1
at 1, taken to a seminar hall
there were 170 ppl around
all called out one by one, cat admit card, score card, id proof checked for all
then a small presentation on SIMSR
then an open QnA session
then all were given a sheet, 2 sided, for essay writing-15 mins-300 words

dnt remember the other one!
then we were divided into groups of 15 each
were also given serial numbers
alloted a room to each group
had the GD and PI in the same room
first GD: two panelists
was a case study: like udupi restos are dying a slow death, competition with mc d's etc, how to save them?
3 absents, 12 ppl, nice GD
no nonsense

then open GD for 12 mins
after that, two new panelists came in for the interview
the director of KJ SOM, and the Placement cell head.....lucky our group!!!!
my PI:
Q: tell us about satyam
-told them
Q: if u were an hr manager of a comp, and ur boss asked u to fire 5 ppl, for a small mistake, what wud u do?
-would first investigate as to what happened, establish veracity of the allegations, then try toning down the punishment to a warning or smething like that, with a firther waring of termination upon repitition of the mistake....coz we cant fire ppl, firing is not abt one person alone, we are dealing with his family etc
Q: these days many comps are firing, whts ur take on it?
-told them that firing is too bad, but then cost cutting is required, so told them the options it cud be done in
Q: so, u read novels?
-yes sir
Q: name a few recents ones
-told them
Q: u seem to read a lot of jeff archer and frederick forsyth

-yes sir
Q: ok, now we wish to ask u abt ur acads
-sure sir( 2 yrs!!! forgot almost everything)
Q: u are ok with it?
-yes sir, though i might be rusty
Q: thats not a trouble: tell the working principle of the choke and starter in tubelight
-told them..satisfied
Q: why is traction used in suburban trains?
-due to excessive braking and accelerating
Q: you are bang onto the point, and u said u could be rusty!!
-smiled:):):)
Q: ok anupriya, was nice speaking to you, have a great day
-thankyou sir
hehe

Well ,
I don't think that is the definition of leading.
A leader does not take charge of the situation by talking loudly or subduing others.
Anyway thanks for leading
Hi Puys,
My gdpi was as follows :
Date : 7th Mar
Venue : PESIT,Blr
Time : 8 am.
They verified the CAT score card (97.43 percentile btw) but nothing else. Then they gave a short presentation on Simsr.Followed by an essay. We could choose between 2 topics :
1. Can the world afford to ignore India.
2. Is a stray win at the Oscars a cause for India to celebrate.
Me chose the 1st.
GD was on a case study(same topic posted earlier- aravind textiles) .A fish market here n there, but overall ok.But we were given a minute to give our points before the GD began.
PI was good- i think. I had a lady(L) and a senior guy (M) on my panel.Mine was longer than the rest before me I guess.
L asked me about my college, and stuff about its founder. The founder is a famous humanitarian leader,so i spoke about the social work she had done. Then M added more about info about it n asked me about my college and my extra-curriculars.This discussion on my college n social work went on for a while....n then L asked about my work, n then some unethical practice my company had followed . I went on to justify the legal n ethical aspects on it.and then L asked the diference between legal and ethical practices.
After my bak-bak, M gave me a scenario where if my frd were driving, n we hit a guy, then whom would I support. Then he asked if I had been driving, would I support my frd if he spoke the truth at court....
Finally after all this moral discussion was over , L asked me for my work ex cert, and said I could leave. When i got up to leave, M looked at me n said "GOOD!"
Thats it!
What do u guys think?!
Btw, i wasnt asked for any photocopies of my marksheets or anything. They took my profile form, n thats about it.
Well ,
I don't think that is the definition of leading.
A leader does not take charge of the situation by talking loudly or subduing others.
Anyway thanks for leading
That's what joo think. The OP obviously has a different idea.
Perspectives differ. I mean, like, Anupriya and I were in the same batch. She thinks the GD went great; i think it was a bilge-fest. Go figure.
by saying that the gd went gr8, all i wanted to say was that none of us shouted, intersected thru others' views, abruptly went into a paranoia, or used gestures too loud..
we had points coming in continuously..however they were in nature...
your group dynamics are tested in a gd ...not the precision and knowledge per se, though they also add weight obviously....
and trust me, there are GDs smetimes so bad, that this one really seemed very nice, mild and gentlemanly
thts wht an ideal gd is supposed to be like
maybe iam naive, but this is what i really felt!
my call converts if they are good, will tell me finally how ryt or wrong i was...
waiting!! and hoping hard, i was ryt!!
That's what joo think. The OP obviously has a different idea.

Hey hey, I'm just giving my perspective, Anu. No hard feelings :).

I didnt say I was leading there.... its always inside me... there i was trying to bring some sanity and give the GD some direction...but nobody was listening and everybody was singing his own song...so somtimes voices were raised..
anyways...it was nice...

ATB 2 puys who r awaiting their gdpi 😃
At first thanks to seniors of KJ Somaiya specially thegr81pary, Mani Pradhan and Nikit Tekriwal and other seniors who actively helped us a lot. Also, I would like to thank all those puys who have ever put their GD/PI experiences here in PG or other puys who have helped aspirants.
Now, my GD/PI experience (3rd of this season.)
GD/PI center: PESIT, Bangalore
GD/PI (date & time): 7th Mar 2009, Saturday. 01:00 PM slot
Acads - 10th 70.14, 12th 50.66(yes you read it correct), BCA 84.80, MCA 90.25
Work Ex - 17 months (IT)
CAT - OA 98.37 (QA 99.58, DI 96.42, VA 81.72)
I reached there almost 20 mins late and the registration process of our batch was about to start. I had brought attested photocopies of all the mark sheets and certificates but here they asked for only original CAT Score card and CAT Admit card!!! This registration process was followed by the Essay writing, as already specified by some of the puys of same batch. The essay topics were same as specified by others in this thread (who was in same slot as mine i.e. 7th March, 01:00PM). I chose second topic. "Can rural Indian economy save it from current recession" (I don't remember exact wordings but it was similar to this.)
GD-:
After essay we were divided in different batches for GD/PI process. I was in GD batch 1 (No 6). GD Panel -: two professors (one of them was the director itself).
We assembled in our designated room and the GD panel came inside, gave us a case regarding diminishing business and profit of Udupi restaurant and tough competition that it is facing from big foreign players like McDonald. We were told that 2 mins will be given to think and then 90 seconds for monologue. The monologue will be in random order as instructed by the panel. I was the first one to be called to start monologue and aaila!!!

(Friends please listen to the panel very carefully and read the case as fast as you can. I lost out a good opportunity to give a good start and get good points. So be careful).
After everyone finished their monologue the actual GD started and despite being a case based GD it was converted into a topic based one somehow. We never discussed in a case solving approach. Only different solutions were discussed and examples were given, but no pros and cons were discussed. This happened because no one came forward with the idea to discuss various solutions and one by one evaluation of each solution. I had decided to do this before the GD started, but couldn't override the group momentum to do so. However every one came out with good points and I also contributed two three times.
Over all an average GD - 5/10 (my performance in my opinion).
PI -:
Two members of our GD/PI batch had to take train to Hyderabad hence they were interviewed first and then PI started in sequence. I was 7th in sequence, effectively, and my number came at about after 1 and hours.
PI Panel -: the PI panel was different then GD panel. Two ladies both faculty members (I guess).
PI -: I had a very simple PI. (L1 - 1st Lady, L2 - 2nd Lady)
(L2 kept quite all the time, not only during my PI but others as well. But I kept my eye contact with both of them during answering.)
L1 - tell me about yourself.
Me - I started with my graduation and post-graduation and moved to my work in the company and added about the extra curricular activities.
L1 - why do you want to join this institute?
Me - started with location advantage and good faculty members.(Interrupted by L1)
L1 - how location is an advantage?
Me - Mumbai is the commercial capital of India and hence it provides great opportunity of industry interaction. (L1 added that also it helps placements and I nodded).
L1 - Why you want to do MBA?
Me - started with my short term and long term goals related with my work (I'm working as a technical consultant in Oracle Apps an ERP package) and said that technical knowledge cannot provide good growth and an MBA will help me in getting the required business knowledge and to become consultant.
L1 - why finance? (My preference was finance)
Me - I have analytical skills and the ability to work in a team as well as individually. I have found my inclination towards finance and want to take finance as a major.
L1 - What do you want to do after MBA?
Me - I have researched about various career options after MBA and I found that consultant or research analyst profile is what I want.
L1 - Why do you want to do finance in such a terrible financial conditions?
Me - The current financial condition or recession is not a permanent phenomena. It will be over may be in a year or two. Earlier also, this happened during 1929-30 and it was bigger in intensity than the current one. But the world moved ahead. So I don't think it should deter my preference. I chose finance looking after my long term career options. (Both looked satisfied with my answer and L2 smiled for the first time during my example of 1929-30 period). Also, I have done NCFM certification "Financial Markets: A Beginners' Module" to find out whether I can understand the financial terms and to find out my interest.
L1 - Okay Vikas tell me do you read?
Me - Yes mam I read books which are related to my work and also some novels.
L1 - and newspapers?
Me - yes mam I read several newspapers online as well as printed. In online I read livemint.com and business world and in printed I read The Financial Express and The Economic Times.
L1 - do you read all these every day?
Me - no mam I read at least one or two of them every day but not all. Some times I read one newspaper sometimes two. But I always try to keep myself updated from current events.
L1 - (looking at L2and then me) Ok you can go now. Thank you.
Me - Thank you mam, Have a good day.
hooh!!!
I think I have written almost the full story. PI lasted for around 10 mins.
They didn't asked me anything on what books I read and further questions on that neither she asked me on my hobbies. My hobby is cooking and I was expecting questions on that. Anyway, It wasn't bad.
Over all PI - 7/10 (in my opinion).
Waiting for final verdict now.
All the best to all aspirants.
:pHere is my experience..Late but Latest!! :-)
7t march at 8.00 AM..
Essays- 1) should India be taken seriously by other countries.
2) "something related to slumdog..."
took the first topic..wrote an introan a conclusion first and then started filling the middle space aaram se...quite satisfied with the essay..wrote about our service sector, sports, olympics, oscars, railways, middle class and finished 1 minute prior time...
now comes the ugliest part.GD..was a cse of whether KV GARMENTS should cater the middle class in recession time as they are only in premium end nw and are suffering losses...there were always 4 or more ppl speaking at a time..no1 cud have heard any points by the other person..to add to that there was 1 hyper aggressive guy sitting next to me who wud interrupt every 1..he didnt have any valid ponts to make and kept on irritating /interrupting the guys who were making points to give the chance to others even when they didnt have anything else to speak...
was pissed off after the gd...
interview lasted for only 6-8 minutes..i was the 1st 1 to be called..
questions were-
1)why mba
2) 2 instances where u have shown leadership qualities
3)hw has recession affected IT

They grillled u on ur acads? Which type of questions? I mean general or deep rooted concepts of the subjects?
Can u elaborate on it please... along with ur acads(if u dont mind..)
Hi,
Sorry for the late reply ! was busy catching up on sleep

Well, i'm a final yr EEE student.
Types of questions were so varied that i can't really pin point any subject per se.And some questions were very general, while someothers were a little rooted.
But they seemed to want to know some top 5 companies in every sector under the sun !!!
They wanted to know the 5 companies dealing with non conventional energy sources. ANd in the way i was being confused,i kind of lost it and said only one.
Likewise they wanted to know about geothermal energy. About rectifier and inverter. And HOW i would possibly explain it to a layman.
Working of a tubelight Comparing it with neon light.
Questions about the gases involved.
Questions about the way we measure almost every single electrical quantity. The thing to remember here is that they tried confusing me throughout. Completely. So, i guess its important for people to not get tense(like me) and keep your cool!
I could answer only some of the total number of questions they asked..
Hope this helped!!
hi puys,
Had my GD/Pi on 7 March at Bangalore.
Venue : PESIT college. 1:00 PM batch.
My profile:
CAT: 96.57
B.Sc. Biotech Grad.
Work ex of 2.5 yrs in Insurance sector.
the process started a 1:45PM. All the students where asked to assemble in a hall where the director and other faculty members gave a presentation about SIMSR and this was followed by a Q n A session.
After this, there was a written communication test. 2 topics where given. Should security be left in the hands of security agencies or should citizens be involved as well (or) Can rural economy be the mainstay of the indian economy in these bad times?
(not the exact words but thats what these topics meant)
15 minutes to complete the essay. word limit 300 words.
Once this was done, we were divided into 10 batches of 14-15 each.
GD's started simultaneously for all the batches. 3 members in GD panel. 2 from SIMSR and 1 from PESIT. Ours was a case study based on McDonalds Vs Udupi hotels. We had to act as a consultant to the udupi chaps and provide steps to counter the western eateries.
1.5 minutes to read the case. then each candidate got 1.5 minute to present the case. next, discussion for 18 minutes, after which any one can voluntarily summarise the discussion.
GD was a disaster. One guy instead of participating in the GD acted as a moderator. anyways, this is not a post to lambast that guy..
Anyway, after the pathetic GD came the interview.
2 panelists ( different from GD panel) P1 and P2.
P1: while P2 reads ur profile, tell me something abt urself.
me: blah blah
P2: from science to insurance to MBA??? wats happening??

P1: wat r ur hobbies??

P2: u read anything??

both laugh...no more questions..thank u.
(the form was collected by the interview panel and they did not return it. 95% of the questions are from the form itself. So think twice before u write something there)
Overall, pretty good. GD got screwed cos of that guy...PI was good.
Hope this post helps u guys.
All the best.

hello all,
Since the gd pi sessions are held separately for freshers and work-ex people, is it that the essay topics and gd or case study topics easier for the freshers????
