Since the gd pi sessions are held separately for freshers and work-ex people, is it that the essay topics and gd or case study topics easier for the freshers????


No , I don't think there is any difference..

They conduct the same way and the same discussion topics..

So, be prepared......

it is an evaluation of how one would behave/react to a particular situation (business/personal).. such tests have no right or wrong answer.. it's just to understand u as a person..

Hi,

There is no Psychometric Test this year. so forget about it
the process includes
1. Essay Writting (15 min 300 words)
2. GD (case based)
3. PI

read other posts and experiences on this thread you will get complete insight of the process.

monologue = solo talk
u can suggest, analyse..whtever
its just that u get to talk uninterrupted for 90 secs flat
use it to ur best advantage

It is infact suggested that you speak some solution during monologue. Because you are sure to get uninterrupted 90 secs. In a case based GD the better way to start is to give it an agenda. The solution of a case based problem can be started with following points
1. State the problem statement.
2. Identify various solutions/course of action.
3. Discuss pros and cons of each solution/course of action.
4. Evaluate every solution on the basis of pros and cons.
5. Chose one solution which is most feasible.
6. Also, decide upon a fallback solution. (In case first one doesn't work)

Now if you are the first one to start monologue you can put forward the above agenda in brief and add several possible solutions/course of action. If you are not the first one and if someone has already put the above structure during his/her turn then don't waste time in doing that again (because it won't add vaule to the discussion). However if no one before you had put this agenda then you can do so and give your soultions. However don't give more than 60% of your time for putting agenda in place because you have to give some solution as well.

Later during actual open house discussion, you can discuss about the pros and cons of every (or as many as possible) solution (point 3 & 4 above).
Ideally during conclusion part, the most feasible solution and the second best,(point 5 and 6 above) can be put forward. However it depends on the person, who will eventually conclude, that he/she puts forward the solution or not. So if you think that discussion was enough to arrive at a solution then you can suggest that before conclusion too. But be carefull and don't do it too early, because someone might have something to say.

Note:- This is my point of view for a case based GD. Please be your own judge and evaluate my suggestions based on your own logic. My GD/PI experience is in 4th page of this thread.

I was asked to start the monologue but I couldn't capitalize on it. I was still reading the case when I was asked to start and hence lost the golden chance. So be fast in reading.

from where did u all prepare for a case study????i mean we all can easily prepaare for gds,but the case studies on net dnt carry any solutions or discussns.....jst the case study is given.......so wat did u all do???/plz help....

Hi Puys,

Had my GD/PI in Kolkata today, 9:00 am batch.
First up, registration.No fuss, smooth process.
Next up, Essay writing. Topics were 1) The large number of engineering and management institutes increasing the problem of unemployment 2) Don't Remember:crazyeye:. Wrote about 1 1/2 page, OK standard essay. One complaint at these stage is, some people had access to a writing table while others had to write keeping the paper on their laps. Lucky we all had hard porfolios.This should not have happened.:sad: Writing while crunched up in your chair and bent over your paper reduces writing speed.
Anyways, next up, Insti presentation and some stupid questions from the candidates.
Next GD. Case study was the reducing Demand for large malls in comparison to kirana stores at then time of recession.What should be done? Okeish discussion. 1 1/2 min monologue for all and then open house.No fish Market. Came in about 4-5 times.At the end one guy summerised. But he put in his new points at that point. This should have been avoided.Also the percentages and figures given in the case should have been discussed in more details.Anyways.....
Next up, PI.There were two lady faculty members(L1 L2) amd me(M)
L2:So you are working?
M: Yes maam..Cognizant....
L2: Show me your exp. cert
L1: Ok so close to 2 1/2 years.. hmm
L2:You have written about good communication skills. Tell me 15 -16 lines about Rabindranath Tagore.
M: blah blah
L2: What is Rabindra Songeet?(Tagore songs for the un-initiated)
M: blah blah
L1: Yours is the most detaiuled form we have ever seen.(To L2)He has done alot of things..drama..debate..karate..
M:
L1:What was the last book you read?
M: A thousand splendid suns
L2: 3 learnings from it
M: blah blah
L1: Do you like Khaled hussaini's writing style? Why?
M:blah blah
L1: You have written that efficiancy/effectiveness balance is your weakness. What is effeciancy and effectiveness?

Overall it aws a good experiance. I was not aware of my posture during the interview.Since there was no table between me and the interviewers, I should have been aware. Take care of this fact guys. Overall a fast and chilled out experiance.Took me a total of 3 hours.

Hi everyone, done with my gd/pi...here goes my experience....

First of all a big thank you to the seniors for answering our queries umpteen no of times...also thanks to cow for posting the most hilariously funny experience i have read till now....

Now here goes mine-

Venue-Kolkata,Presidency College 9:00 a.m. batch

First the registration, which began at 8:30...all they needed was the Profile Form and CAT Score Card/Admit Card and some other personal id...frnds take along some kind of id proof with you....

Then the essay 15 mins...1st topic as has been posted above...2nd topic was

Advertising on junk foods should be banned

I wrote the 1st one.....and i unluckily had selected a back chair in the room so unlike some others' i couldn't write on a table...anyways it was decent although my handwriting wasn't....

Then the presentation abt the clg....followed by q-a round from students....

Then we were split into 5 grps for gd...


GD was a case based on "Whether Organized retail will be able to survive the challenge mounted by local kirana stores"

gd was,luckily for my group, SUPERBBBBBB.........out of 13 ppl 3 hadn't turned up....so 10 ppl 30 mins...go figure...i have never attended such a peaceful gd....everybody got sufficient time to speak....after imt gd it was almost like paradise...we dragged on..finally reached a conclusion even before the panelists could ask us to conclude....one of them looked up and said "Oh over?" with a smile and nodded asking us to wait outside to be called in for pi....turned out that our gd had had the longest discussion among 5 grps after all....:p


panels were swapped to avoid any bias in pi....most ppl in my grp were asked gk questions...i was the 2nd last to go in....

now i will try to put in the exact experience as far as i remember...

2 member panel-Young Prof(YP) and Old Prof(OP)...myself(M)

YP-So wats the meaning of your name?

M-told

YP-So give a short introduction of yourself.

M-told

YP-Why KJ?

YP-So u r a final-year student...why not go for M-Tech after ENGG

M-told.....that is not a field where i see myself developing my career...it's a technical field career prospects-either technical jobs,research or academics...while it's respectable i don't have a sufficient interest in it to pursue my career...

YP-So u don't want to do technical jobs..is that correct?

M-Yes sir

YP-But then why engg?

M-told the honest answer ...after class 12th it wasn't really my decision to do engg....it was family's decision...blah blah blah...finally ended with it's one of the flaws of our education system and i wud like to reform it....

YP(nodding)-ok so going for an MBA was your decision right?

M-yes sir it is...i am mature enough now to take the decision for myself now....:)

YP-Great how abt marriage?will it be your decision too?

M-Definitely sir.it's my decision..bcz that's a matter of choosing my life partner...:biggrin:

YP-OK...now see i am not from KJ Somaiya...i just got back from Malaysia two months ago...sir over here is from the clg(pointing to op)....so do something...over the next 2 mins...sell yourself to him....why he shud take you to his clg...(i smile..op also smiles)

M-ok sir....(turning to OP)...blah blah blah.....i have never ever spoken such crap for so long .....:)

Finally I finish....OP gives a small smile.....YP takes over...

YP-See all you did was speak yourself...wat kind of selling was that...did u ask him whether he was able to hear u properly?...did u ask him abt wat he wanted to hear...dat is wat marketing is...u first learn wat the customer wants before u give it to them....(OP just grins)

M-(nodding all along)-I understand sir it's an interactive two-way process....between the customer and me....yes sir..i get it...:p

YP-so how will you do marketing?

M-dat is why i want to do marketing sir....i want to learn the concepts....a b-school like yours is the place to learn such things...i wish to know how such things work...

YP(nodding with a smile)-ok ok...then remember this first lesson....honestly if you had tried to propose by speaking like that the girl wud have given u a tight slap...and said wat do u think of yourself...king of the universe or wat?....:tongue::tongue:

All 3 of us share a hearty laugh....i decide to skip the fact that i have a gf...and it will be a long long time before i propose...lol...

YP-No of course not...why how will you finance your course?...finance isn't a problem right?

M-No sir absolutely not...it's just that i will take a loan....and these particulars have to be sorted out with the banks beforehand...

YP-But banks give loans readily na...anything below 20 lacs...:crazyeye:

M-not exactly sir....explain in detail abt collateral,etc....and tell them how following iim's..other b-schools may be increasing their fees...rumours going abt...like nmims,imt-g,etc...

YP-2-3 questions abt comparative fees of diff b-schools....i drive home the point abt kj being very attractive here bcoz of low fees...

Conclusion-Whether i get thru or not doen't matter....KJ just rocks......went thru a grt process today..ATB!

just go through prev case studies and work them out on your own.. come up with 2-3 main solutions.. then try to think out of the box and come up with unique solutions.. and also time yourself each time u go through a case study.. that shud suffice.. :angel:

mumbai gd/pi have not yet started.. so i dont think any kind of interaction with seniors has taken place.. correct me if im wrong..
