Hello All
This thread would serve as a purpose for answering all the admission queries for admission to SIBM Bangalore for the batch 2009-2011.
Feel free to ask anything and everything pertaining to SIBM Bangalore and we assure you that you will get a satisfactory response from our side.
Waiting for the queries of the Prospective Students of SIBM Bangalore 😃
Nice to see seniors taking an initiative to disseminate information about SIBM Bangalore.
Well to begin with my query is an obvious one which any MBA aspirant would seek; this being the first year of Banagalore campus, how is the momentum like?
Can you brief in about a normal day at SIBM Bangalore.
Also the type of companies that usualy comes for the placements (for summer interns as of now).
The faculties, permanent and guest/rotating.
What is the difference btwn the pune campus and bangalore campus. As in i know one of the reason why people this year were vying for the pune campus was coz Bangalore one is new, was there any other reason too besides that.
Well i am a CA and a CS. So does it make sense furthering my education for two more years at SIBM, should not i rather go for some work experience on the basis of my qualification, perhaps (rather certainly) two years down the line it would put me on the same footing as i would have been had i joined SIBM. My contention is would there be any perceived value addition that would make me stand out. i know this is aindeed a relative/subjective question, but if you guys can throw some light on it, it would be highly solicited.
PS: SIBM pune was supposed to be shifted to a residential campus, and they have been claiming to do so for the past two years, what is the status now..can anyone throw light on that.

Naina Agarwala
Naina Agarwala SaysNice to see seniors taking an initiative to disseminate information about SIBM Bangalore.
Well .. thanks a ton, well the seniors are alwys meant to help the juniors ! isnt dat so ???
Naina Agarwala SaysWell to begin with my query is an obvious one which any MBA aspirant would seek; this being the first year of Banagalore campus, how is the momentum like?
The life here at SIBM bangalore is pretty exciting for many reasons ... well since its a new and upcoming campus, so every thing has to be started frm scratch and the students as well as management both work hard in a cooperative fashion to get the thngs done ! no rules to follow but instead we make rules which would be followed... 😃 all committees formed and are wrkng hard and the fruits have started coming...
we have got some corporate tie ups as wellll since our inception, have got a strong alumni network who is based out of Bangalore... so all this helps a lot...
Naina Agarwala SaysCan you brief in about a normal day at SIBM Bangalore.
A normal day at SIBM bangalore generally starts at 8 AM in the mrng and classes go up to 7 30 PM .... pretty hectic though it is same in all the B Schools ... then after the classes we all gear up for the next day assignmnts, presentations, quizzes etc... in the mean time in between the lectures or after the lectures we some times have guest lectures or some stock market events, quizzes etc... weekends .. we have movie screening and tournamnets of TT etc ... every day ends in atleast a handful of value addition...
Naina Agarwala SaysAlso the type of companies that usualy comes for the placements (for summer interns as of now).
See the summers would start in the month of october, so I can give u the required details only then.. and I would say just one thing .... We have full faith in ourselves and in SIBM as well dats y we are here ... :)
Naina Agarwala SaysThe faculties, permanent and guest/rotating.
well .. we have the best of faculties based out of bangalore here at SIBM and some of them are full time and some of them are guest faculties... apart from that we also have faculties coming from SIBM Pune as well... apart from the academic stuff, we are also coming up with different other courses as welll.. :)
Naina Agarwala SaysWhat is the difference btwn the pune campus and bangalore campus. As in i know one of the reason why people this year were vying for the pune campus was coz Bangalore one is new, was there any other reason too besides that.
See thats true that SIBM Pune is the Main Stream and we are the branch of the same, but let me tell u one thing that there are some who had thier first preference be Bangalore bcoz Bangalore being the IT Capital of India... at the end of the day, we are SIBMites... 😃 no matter we belong to Pune or Bangalore...
Naina Agarwala SaysWell i am a CA and a CS. well... education will always help .... and moreover I do not agree to the statement made by you that in both the cases you would be on the same position,,, see MBA has its own importance, by doing CS and CA you will face a lil difficulty in entering in the middle level management directly ... that is where MBA would help u ! :)
Naina Agarwala SaysPS: SIBM pune was supposed to be shifted to a residential campus, and they have been claiming to do so for the past two years, what is the status now..can anyone throw light on that.
SIBM Pune campus has already been shifted to Lavale Campus :)
Hope this info helps ! 😃

Well Rohit, the cut off for both SIBM Bangalore and Pune was same last year, that was 85 marks out of 180 for the General Category in the SNAP exam. Hope the trend would continue this year as well. Cut Off is purely based on the SNAP score and rest all is counted at the time of your interview. This was followed last year and the previous years for admissions and moreover, we do have sectional cut offs as well.
My profile is as follows

Diploma(Comp Sci) : 70%
Engg(Comp Sci): 62(with 1 yr gap)
Exp: Currently working as a Business Analyst with Kotak

Well Experince plays an equal important role everywhere in the due course of time. We do will be having the lateral placements as well, the minimum requirement varies from company to company in particular. To give u a lil stats, the current batch of SIBM Bangalore has a ratio of 1:1 in work experience and freshers.
Hope all this helps !! 😃
What is the selection procedure like??
I mean once selected for GD-PI after clearing cut off in SNAP, will that SNAP score matter???? Or 85-scorer and a 95-scorer are treated on the same level????
And do you know the % distribution for GD, PI, acads and work ex like it is given in some of the symbi college????
I have very poor acads with no work ex and a year gap..... I know it is a huge disadvantage but I am confident of clearing the cut off.... but am not sure how to defend my poor scores in my grad and then the gap.......
What is the selection procedure like??

Hie Nikhil, well the selection procedure consists of SNAP and then the Group Discussion, Group Task and Personal Interview. And the SNAP score is given due importance even in the Final Score as well, well in our case it was like the SNAP score was made 1/6th in the final score. So a 95 scorer has an edge over an 85 scorer by 2 marks in the final score and let me tell you 2 marks matter a lot in the final score.
nikhil9811 SaysAnd do you know the % distribution for GD, PI, acads and work ex like it is given in some of the symbi college????
Well in case of SIBM in particular, due weightage is given to each : acads, work experience and your performance in SNAP, GD, GT and PI. In our case, in the final score of 150 the following was the distribution :
30 : SNAP
10 : Academics
10 : Work Expeience
100 : GD & PI
nikhil9811 SaysI have very poor acads with no work ex and a year gap..... I know it is a huge disadvantage but I am confident of clearing the cut off.... but am not sure how to defend my poor scores in my grad and then the gap.......
well.. i know acads and wrk exp matter but that does not mean that a perosn who was not able to perform in the acads bcoz of some reason, cant be a part of a B School. so If you can prove your worth to be there at SIBM ,, you are in !! :)
Hope it helps !! 😃
Q. Well to begin with my query is an obvious one which any MBA aspirant would seek; this being the first year of Banagalore campus, how is the momentum like?
A. SIBM Bangalore is an ultra modern campus, which boasts of its beautiful buildings and is surrounded by numerous IT companies in Electronic City, the epicentre of IT industry, in Bangalore.:boat:
Q. Well to begin with my query is an obvious one which any MBA aspirant would seek; this being the first year of Banagalore campus, how is the momentum like?
A. Momentum of all the students is as optimistic as it can be.
We all are proud of being associated with this college, be a part of this college. Being the first year we are new and afresh.
Q. Can you brief in about a normal day at SIBM Bangalore.
A. Usually the day begins at 7.30 am
with some godly souls getting up earlier and having jog.
The first lecture usually starts at 8.30 but if u are unlucky u may hav even one prior to 8.30
U'll find all the students coming in the mess at 8.20 and would be literally running to catch up their classes.
We've a hour lunch break and then again the classes will start which will run till 7.30 in the evening.
Then there will be meeting of respective groups later in the night preparing for the presentations, quizzes, seminars, case studies to be covered up the another day.:argue:
:laugh:For most of us the day doesn't end before 1 am.
Q. Also wat r the type of companies that usualy comes for the placements (for summer interns as of now).
A. Companies for Summers will be coming in November post diwali and first sem exams.
Till then we are collecting data about the students and companies.
The database is under process....
Do keep looking for this space for more on companies coming for Summers;)
Q. The faculties, permanent and guest/rotating.
What is the difference btwn the pune campus and bangalore campus. As in i know one of the reason why people this year were vying for the pune campus was coz Bangalore one is new, was there any other reason too besides that.
The faculties are one of the best.
Surely u wont be thinking of bunking instead, u'll be waiting for the lecture and in turn the faculty to come n teach u !!:bigear:
Differences between Pune and Bangalore campuses are many per se,
but few things which are in common are :-
We both boast of the SIBM tag.
We have world class infrastructure and facilities.
Guest lectures are even conducted by the SIBM pue alumnii.
Same curriculum.
Q. Well i am a CA and a CS. So does it make sense furthering my education for two more years at SIBM, should not i rather go for some work experience on the basis of my qualification, perhaps (rather certainly) two years down the line it would put me on the same footing as i would have been had i joined SIBM. A. An MBA that too from a reputed/ one of the country's best colleges is never of no/less use.
Ur work-ex after two years would definitely not put u in the same line as after joining SIBM  and doing MBA.
The value addition is not just one more acads line in ur CV, but it will definitely help u grow/climb the corporate ladder more sooner than the others. After an MBA u wil be more involved in the decision-making process of the company rather than just preparing reports and giving suggestions.
Q. SIBM pune was supposed to be shifted to a residential campus, and they have been claiming to do so for the past two years, what is the status now..can anyone throw light on that.
A. From this year onwards the campus has been shifted from within the city,S.B Road to Lavale village (in the outskirts).
Hope i hav made u clear if not, do revert back for more queries.

Sain Sumit

The cutoffs required for making it into the GD/PI list are purely decided on your performance in the SNAP score, unless and untill the rules change from this year. Which u can read through the admission brochure.
Your work experience will certainly add up into the final scores which go in compiling the final merit list.
Yes we are going to have lateral placements for candidates with a reasonable amount of work-ex.

Once u r thru wid d first round of admission procedure, after making it into the GD/PI list
The SNAP score does matter, but does not matter highly, since the points distribution of SNAP score in the final score out of 150 is just 30.
The break-up being :-
Group Discussion/ Group Task 50
Personal Interview 50
Academics 10
Work-Experience 10
SNAP Score 30
What were you doing during the 1 year gap time ??
Although there is no short -cut to success, it is never too late to do anything and improvise upon.
