i read a few pages back here that the GDs are mostly HR based.. need a bit of clarification on that...

-are they case study based or topic based? or there's no pattern followed?

Last year they were case study based. You will be given situations which normally occur in an HR role or issues which an HR manager must try to overcome such as compensation problems, absenteism, worker-management battles, layoff during difficult times. Many a times, there will be an ethical element involved.

-are they like XL PMIR gds, where you have to assign priorities to the solutions already given to the case study?
Till last year at least, this was not the case, but u never know !
-will the case studies given need knowledge of any HR based topics.. if so can you point out a few topics we wud be glad to divide them among ourselves and dig and share the topics...
It does not involve any technical knowledge, but they are mainly lookin to see how you approach these situations. That said, as a friend suggested earlier , reading a book like Ashwathapa or A.M. Sharma will give you a good idea about how HR usually handles such problems and these books have a good number of HR case studies for you to work on as well.

also, can you pls help us with the gd pi dates as such we do not have any idea what they are and how and when wud we come to know of them..
I think someone said that gd pi dates will be out on 12th.
and the last one :D
#3 Would it be a bad idea to get the SOP as printout as it wud be a separate sheet as it is..
I would not think it would be a bad idea, unless they have explicitly mentioned that it should be handwritten. If the rest of the form is handwritten, then you might need to write the SOP as well.
Thanks in advance..

@zain and all others asking about the bio sketch

I will try to describe the biosketch as per my understanding, with the caveat that what worked for me may not work for you.

The basic purpose of a biosketch is to answer the question "How has the life you have led so far kindled your interest in this course and why do you think you are suited to this course"? The life you have lived so far can be broadly classified into 4 parameters, your family influences, academic life, co-curricular or extra curricular responsibilities and professional life (if applicable). You need to weave your answer around these points.Try and identify incidents or stages where you excelled or where you displayed management potential or you exhibited a social aspect of your personality. These incidents should not be inconsequential, but something which you can regard as major milestones in your career. Remember that anything you write can and will be asked to you in the interview, so remain true to yourself.

Also understand that a typical SOP requires at least 3-5 reviews before it is finalized and hence do not leave it till the last moment. At each stage of the review ask yourself the question, what does this SOP tell the examiner about me ? Do I sound too bombastic or am I trying to be too humble? What are the questions the interviewer is likely to ask after reading this ? Only when you are reasonable satisfied with the answers to this question, is your SOP ready to be submitted.

i read this thred daily....its really use ful..and tahnks kaloobhai......i aplyed for media and culure.....and ur information about.bioskect its good....nw i get sme idea for biosketch..thanks again....

Thanks a lot! One more question though... do we have to write about various parameters under different headings or should i just write it out in one para?

It should be a continuous essay like the one we wrote in our school days.

in case study u will be provided with a situation and you need to discuss the various steps that can be done to solve the issue. In GD it may happen that some people know more about the topic but for case study everyone has same amount of information.

Can anbody give me sample of biographical sketch..??
And some infornation of GD PI???

Hi Seniors,

so it means we all have to work in a group and not as a gd where every1 is for himself.

Even in a GD we are supposed to function as a group...
But you find many egoistic nitwits who confuse a GD with a debate, and keep on pladding and blubbering with irrelevant points..
being stubborn is not going to help you out in a GD..
nor is speaking the most..
in face we are gauged on ther way we lead/ assist each other and Move forward as a group...

yes.. the main difference is that in a debate you cut other's points... in a GD you contribute to other's points.. i e you add to other's points, the quality of content that you add, the new dimensions that you add to the discussion, examples, parallels, facts etc determine the quality of contribution that you make to a GD..
Though these are made in the group, note that each of the things mentioned have to be done by each individual. at the same time, if group behaves improperly (fish market) or tends to take a narrow vision, then chances of you scoring good also reduces.
