First call of the season

Hi Puys...

Anyone from Mumbai Plz answer this.....

My train will terminate at Mumbai Central railway station and the preceding station would be Borivali....

Where should I get off -- Mumbai Central or Borivali ??

How far is TISS frm these two stations ??

Thanks in Advance....

Get down at Bombay central bro. Take a taxi from there and it should not take you more than 45 minutes to reach TISS. Don't pay more than 250 though:). Getting down at borivili won't serve any purpose as it will take around 1.5 hours to reach TISS from borivili. ATB
Hi Puys...
from Mum central would be appropriate

Mumbai cenral == > TISS/chembur/govandi taxi Rs 250/- bit concern about traffic == 45+ min

or

Mum Central ==> Charchgate local train Rs5/10 min
Charchgate ==> CST taxi Rs 14/8 min
CST ==> chembur/govandi - Harbour train Platform 1 OR 2 (vASHI/BELAPUR/PANVEL), RS 9/30 min
Govandi ==> TISS auto Rs 14/8 min

MAP click on the map - u will get an idea - choice in urs

while returning u may visit nariman or gateway etc etc near charchgate.

Guys,

I got a chance to browse through 'Essentials of Organization Behavior' By Stephen Robbins.

Found it very interesting and informative.

It talks about Individual Behavior, Group Behavior and Organizational Behavior of an employee with some current Indian examples.

I Hope this reading is relevant and would suggest other aspirants to give it a read if time and circumstances permit.

-Kartheek

dear reference i m talking about content of this topic where do we get wholesome info on particular topic?? if possible you can attach the word-file to avoid enlargement of the thread??
its request.,...

I think the following sources can help to get an Insight on topics for GD/PI.
Selective reading is the KEY.

1)Economic Survey - For a quick review on all Social and Economic activities in India.
The Hindu : News / National : Economic Survey 2010 - Full Text

2)Kurukshetra -For detailed study on Social issues in rural India.(Afterall majority of Indian Human Resource is in rural India) -Costs 10rs.

3)HR books as suggested by seniors("human resource management text and case " K Aswathappa)

4)Labour & Industrial relations: Govt. of India* Ministry of Labour
(plethora of Info on all acts, policies, planning, ministries, implementation statistics, conferences etc..)

5)Current affairs brush up(many magazines are available for UPSC exams)

6)Editorials for last few months (to get a view point in GD)
The Hindu : Opinion

7)Economic & Political Weekly MAY issues (Labour day) for comprehensive coverage(This will be of very high level with many research papers) -Last ref if time permits.

Please Add/Update if u guys find any useful info.
With just 2 weeks ahead, trying too many things would be detrimental.
So, lets keep on sharing our learnings in summary points whenever we get time.

Hi Kartheek,
Yes I had used this book as a reference book as part of my BMS POM project. But for the benefit of the others, the title of the book is
"Essentials of Organisational Behaviour"
(No offence meant haan bro, please: not an attempt to correct you.)

here is a link:
Amazon.com: Essentials of Organizational Behavior (9780131445710): Stephen P. Robbins: Books

If im not wrong, i saw a pirated copy at CST station a couple of days ago.
Its worth a glance!!

Thanks for reminding Kartheek!!

And ofcourse go through the budget...atleast a glance!

Gonna start brushing up the HRM bit from Wednesday! Happy Holi to everyone!

Some trivia on Rural employment:

NREGS: Renamed as MGREGS

Objective:
The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme aims at enhancing the livehood security of people in rural areas by guaranteeing hundred days of wage-employment in a financial year to a rural household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.

Statistics:
The National Rural Employment Guarantee
Scheme (NREGS), was launched in February
2006 in 200 most backward districts in the first
phase and was expanded to 330 districts during
2007-08.
The coverage was extended to all
rural districts of the country in 2008-09.
At present, 619 districts are covered under the
NREGS.
During the year 2008-09, more than
4.51 crore households were provided
employment under the scheme.
As against the
budgeted outlay of Rs 39,100 crore for the year
2009-10, an amount of Rs 24,758.50 crore has
been released to the States/UTs till December
2009.
During the year 2009-10, 4.34 crore
households have been provided employment
under the scheme.
Out of the 182.88 crore
person days created under the scheme during
this period,
29 per cent and 22 per cent were in
favour of SC and ST population respectively and
50 per cent in favour of women.

Relevance to TISS HRM Program:
As this is the world's biggest employment generation program,
this program needs lot of inputs w.r.t HRM.
The success of this program depends on how effectively the HR is managed.
One of the reasons for its not so successful implementation at many places in Lack of proper HR managers at the grass root level(Block level).

Other related employment guarantee programs:
Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) - Rural self employment
Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY) - Urban unemployed and underemployed.

Please feel free to add any points to this.
