[2010-12] Discussion thread for TISS HRMandLR GDPI call getters

Oh C'mon PUYS...
This thread is like 'Nervous diaries'...
Any of us will either get in or Not...
& we will know when we do.. Besides dont hold Your breaths because TISS had delayed their result last year by at least 2 weeks.. So there are chances of history being repeated..
& as far as good feedbacks are concerned..I got one too .. but there are those extra marks of written test & GD too right? SO only a good PI might not ensure a selection..

Point accepted Sandya, but consider the following stats:
1. Cumulative score oout of 70 will not be highly distributed because it has been scaled down. So you will find pppl mostly in 40's. It will be rare that a large difference of mrks wud be seen. This will increase competetion on margins :P
2. PI makes 70 marks. ANd this will ser be a differentiator 😃 So lets keep our fingers crossed and pray for the best 😃

Between.. How about watching Hurt Locker??

Well said Vibha.......

I m reading Maverick in one hand and For the love India- Life and times of Jamshetji Tata in other .............

Nice Books........

All the best for all those who are struggling with their final exams and those with hectic work days, pls buy some time........

Well friends , I belive there is much more than just your marks. I feel there must be certain other things which they decide other than marks like u r backgroung, u r qualification, work ex and the kind of exposure, and many other parameters.
Had it not been the case the result would have been out just after the interview as only reveling the cumulative score would have been the time.

So relax madi and chill.

Talk all about other options that we have and also the future plan which one needs to take if not selected in TISS.

Regards
Amit

I concur 😃

well i for one, seriously hope that other things are considered as well!!

my PI lasted for 6 mins only out of which 3 mins they grilled me on "why there are so many ppl from IT applying in TISS?" to which i cud only say there CANNOT be any generic reason, and the reason varies from person to person, i can tell the reason for me but not for the rest 100 applicants.. the teachers were not convinced...

the rest 3 mins I answered the only HR related question on how to retain ppl in IT..

thats it, no more questions, my 70 marks were evaluated then and there itself within 6 mins.. even though i kinda felt cheated.. other than the sole ques asked, i never got to prove my interest in HR :banghead:

hope they put in some marks to the form that we filled and other factors as well

Yes PI performance can be a decider but the point is how do we actually infer that our PI went good (as in "scoring") ??...some ppl were even drilled somewat..so no point of a positive feedbak there...some interviews lasted for 5-6 minutes only...point is "u neva kno"....

hope they come up wid d results soon....n ya pray for the best!! :)

PS-> Hurt locker is kool...but i guess Clash of Titans (3D)..is a must...

Date: 18th Slot, 11:00 AM, 7 Participants, 3 F + 4 M

GD Case study on Women Wage discrimination(Women doing similar function as men receive 22 % less wages for years, wage structure is hidden), You are appointed as new HR Head, you want to normalize the pay structure, how would you move ahead???

In the total alloted time of 20 minutes i participated for hardly two minutes,

My Points:- 1. This is example of violation of fundamental Rights provided by our Constitution which mentions there should be no discrimination based on religion, sex, caste, creed, etc., so the system in practice is legally questionable.

My Q to the group:- What do you feel about the hidden wage structure in the organization???

Replies from group:- This is a complex situation needs careful handling, Trade unions have a role to play here, talk with the male counterparts first...negotiate the situation, etc.,

I replied to my own Question:- 1. These things are coming under the purview of RTI or Right to Information Act, The newly introduced RTI act provides for the right to information about the functioning, wage structure, expenses etc., so that comparisons can be made among people doing similar job roles, 2. Hidden agendas lead to complications later on, so there should n't be anything hidden among the people working in similar organization.

At later stages the group discussion was going haywire,

So, i interfered and communicated to the group that time is almost over, let us remain in the vicinity of the debate and let us not move to uncharted territories, let us now conclude the debate with the important findings as the time is almost over.

among 7 participants the 4th participant was making his concluding points while the bell went and our time was up.

Interview HRM & LR, 18th Enter: 5:32 PM Exit: 5:51 (Interview Duration 19 minutes) Panel 2, three members,

I -1: 1. Here is an interesting boy(still do not know why he said that???)

2. You are interested in reading fiction and non-fiction; name the books you read recently,

A: Sir, in the previous year i read A better India A better world, White Tiger by Aravind Adiga, A hungry Tide by Amitava Ghosh, India Unbound by Gurcharan Das,

3. What message does Narayan Murthy give through A better India A Better World?

A. Sir, the book is Sir N. R Narayan Murthys speech or message given across the globe, his vision about a different India, the Public Private partnership models, the Infosys policies, etc.,

4. What is the Infosys HR Policy,
A. Sir Infosys is a peoples organization, there are no caste based preferences in Infosys, it is an equal opportunity employer,
5. What is your take on that?
A. Sir i personally feel IT is a highly competitive business, with the Chinese, Phillipinnes hanging around the hook with greater efficiency it is better to be talent organization rather than discrimination organization. (P- 1 seemed to be slightly in disagreement...)

I continued...Sir in the entrance process the Colleges are intaking through the government norms, the students are going through four years of training and i think to offer career related benefits for the long span is not required, i personally know individuals who are from reserved categories and are employed with various corporates in high position and sometimes outperform the General Category candidates, so to infer that someone from category is talent deficient is a faulty assumption in itself.

6. You have applied for HRMLR & GL, if selected in both which one you are gonna select.

A) Sir i would definitely choose HRM & LR, it is a broader arena with broader scope, while GL is a part of that broader arena, The scope of career development in HRM LR is broad.

I-2: 1. Tell us about your upbringing and family background(he asked in Hindi)

A)(I replied in hindi) My father is employed with the Indian Defence services, and i have been to many places within India, from childhood i have witnessed the cantonment life which is way too organised, disciplined, dedicated to cause etc., i have seen in my father how he has always put the nation duties before himself and his family, my mother is a homemaker so we traveled a lot to XX/YY/ZZ/AA/RR in India, this intensive travelling took a heavy toll on studies, but the kind of environmental experience and character building my background has provided i am thankful to my destiny for that.

I-3: Asked questions from academics,
A) Asked questions from fund flow and cash flow:- I was grounded
B) What are derivatives: Said....could have explained better,
K) What is hedging? What are calls and puts?
C) Tell us about your work Exp: Said, my job function etc., etc.,
D) What is ratio Analysis? Said
E) What are quick Ratios?
F) Difference between Debt equity Ratio-and Liquidity Ratio?
G) What does balance sheet reflect?
H) What is a current Asset?
I) You were in equity research, why do you want to move to HR?
J) What are your future plans?

***My GL interview went on similar lines, Dean sir himself was taking the GL interview.

I-3) to I-1 & I-2, would you like to ask something more,
After a while they said no.
i gave a lord of the rings bow gesture while leaving.

well i for one, seriously hope that other things are considered as well!!

6 mins, 10 mins, 15 mins... this is all I have heard from most of the people there and even my PI was for just 15 mins...

I m sure they would have spent more time in to looking at DAF (why Hr and Biographical sketch) or may be they already did that before our interviews and just aksed qns' quickly to clear their conform their perceptions abt us. Anyways nothing that can be changed by our speculation.

Could control my tempataion to avoid visting this thread for almost 4 weeks, but no longer now :)

Need to get into some thing intresting...

Kaise bataye kyon thujko chhahe yaara bata na paaye(Somethings are beyond any explanations)

Baatein dil o ki Dekho jo baki Aake tujhe samjhaein(Every aspect of a person can't be judged in a 5-10-15 minutes interview, let us allow to elaborate by bringing us near to you)

Hum milke bhi, hum na mile (Interview is no surety of a seat)
Tumse na jaane kyun, milo ke,
Hai phasle tumse na jaane kyun(Still 5 Days=120 Hours, why there is still difference when i want to be part of this institute from the core of my heart)

Anjaane, hai silsile(Result is unknown to me)
Tum se na jaane kyun, sapne hai(i want to live in present, but after visiting the campus dreams are inevitable)
Palko tale tum se na jaane kyunnnnnn

Baatein dil o ki
Dekho jo baki
Aake tujhe samjhaein(Dreams.......Expressions are still due, Participation still due, life still due...........59 of us shall come to be your part to be a part of this different yet elite institute)

Jaane teri aankhein Kiya baatein ki vajah(Your verdict is due)
Huye tum jo dil ki aarzoo, Tum paas ho ke bhi(You are so near yet so far)
Tum aas ho ke bhi,Ehsaas ho ke bhi(TISS is a dream, it is a feeling )
Apne nahin aise hai,Hum ko gile(seems i am losing, )
Tumse na jaane kyun, milo ke
Hai phasle tumse na jaane kyun ooonnn.(5 days seem to be 5 lives)

Please don't groan, even this beautiful song is forcing my mind to think this way.....:drinking: :drinking: :drinking:

I keep visitin this thread... It is somehow strangely satisfying to read bout other who are equally senti bout TISS 😉 I really hope that results don't get delayed this year... The wait till 20th is long enough! Many of us will be shattered on that day while a few will jump with joy... I jus everyone 'All d very Best'... N may d best ppl get those coveted seats! I appeared fr quite a few interviews this yr... But TISS ws an experience in itself... D campus, d profs, d seniors, d canteen, d audi (whr i spent a long long time till 6 in d evng)....Hell, i even loved the Cute Chai Stand in d corner!

Well... I guess that's wt's called Love at first sight! My folks think i've lost my brains fr TISS... But, I guess a lot of my (seNTi over TISS) fellow aspirants can understand d feeling..! Ppl suggest things from visitin religious places daily...to takin a chill pill... Well Well... By d by, does bribin God help? Anyone?

N nw i'll try n get my brain off TISS by catchin a movie or trYIn to study fr my final exams... So Long... Good Luck to All!

Ppl who are in d very same sentimental boat may pls thank me!
It wud be er...very supportive of u guys

Au revoir!

above song reaches out to heart and n-e-one of uscan correalate wid it............

Guys, keep your id and password ready with u for d results..its difficult to be sane and find them on the d-day!

If this is an info then it is wrong...plz refrain frm sharing info which you are not sure about..

it stated tht a guy cleared upsc n another cleared jbims...etc...pls correct me if am wrong..

Just out of curiosity as we have a long wait ahead.

Needless to say i am not calling TISS a B School

i am not sure if the criteria is like the above mentioend one but i had spoken to one of the seniors during my interview and he said that 55 poeple joined last year and then 7 left after tat. one got thru UPSC and one trhu JBMIS some in IIMS so they left. and TISS didnt replace them with the waitlist people so now their current batch strength is 48 only.

You are right bhai....but they left so late that it was not posible to call others at that time...
