ISB provides a deferred admission option to selected candidates who do not meet our 2 year minimum workex requirement. As regards your future/further development, you may consider gaining sufficient work experience and reflecting on both your learnings from the workplace and also about your personal & career ambitions.
i have got few querries one of which is already addressed but since i am from a background of merchant navy so i would like to get it cleared:
1. I have got a work ex of almost 4 years till sept 2012 which also includes a full time paid internship of 1 year. Will that be counted.
2. Can I get a specialization in Energy trade and finance? Is it through combination of various of electives?
3. How does the recruiters look at candidates from a merchant navy background. i mean is it difficult for a student from my background to get a job in finance or energy sector?
I have Over 3 yrs of Work Exp (IT -Software) in a Top MNC. My Academics are above average (Not excellent), GMAT - 710, But in12th, due to personal reasons my score was low. My question is how much preference is given to 12th Percentage while applying for PGP course? Can i expect a interview call in case my Profile/Extra Curricular activities are good?
I am a Chartered ACcountant qualified in January 2010. But my articleship period was completed on July 2010. As I was already a CA and worked full time from January to July 2010, Can it be counted as experience???
1. If your sea-time internship (apprenticeship) is after your degree qualification, it will be counted as overall full-time workex.
2. Please check our specializations: http://www.isb.edu/pgp/Electives.Shtml You can tailor your electives to suit your study and career interests. It is normal for students to choose from among the bouquet of electives & the Independent Study Program to pursue studies that they keen on. You can also look at ISB's international exchange options to suit your study interests.
3. ISB has had several illustrious alumni who came from the merchant navy and other non-traditional backgrounds, who have excelled in various other industries including finance after graduating from ISB. Please have a look at our alum profiles: http://www.isb.edu/pgp/StudentProfiles.Shtml and our incoming class stats for info on people with similar backgrounds entering our class.
Employers hiring at ISB are typically expecting to hire people who have prepared themselves for the roles they are hiring for. This has little to do with your previous industry or function and mostly to do with how well you understand what it takes to succeed in the role, industry and function you are targeting.
Your entire application is reviewed holistically. No preference or weightage is given to any specific component of the application. We understand that one cannot always be strong in all areas or change the past. Hence, the other components of the application like the essays, extra curricular & community involvement, leadership qualities, clarity of direction & purpose, traits that make you unique etc are very valuable in making a strong application.
Please start working on your application early. This gives you time to think about how you can make your overall application strong and how you can showcase your strengths rather than dwell on weaknesses.
Unfortunately CA articleship does not count towards our full-time workex requirement. If you have worked full-time since July 2010 then you would have the minimum required workex to apply.
Thank you for your feed back, but in my marksheet the date of qualifying the examination is January 2010, even though that would not suffice the purpose???
Then please guide me how to mention that in my application. If I mention the same as articleship, & describe the work experience in it, & mention in my 3rd application about the same, will it be considered at the discretion of Adcom???
I Scheduled an appointment for giving GMAT on November 6, keeping in mind the last date for application i.e 30th November. Now after registering I got an email confirmation which mentioned, they would be taking atleast 20 days to give me the score. Now if they take exactly 20 days then it will come down to 26th november and last date is 30th November.
Should I reschedule the test now to an earlier date looking at the risk of missing the deadline?
Above are all areas in which you can highlight interests & involvement in community, social services and other activities.
Please include your articleship details. While it does not count towards your workex rqmt it is still a valuable piece of your profile. Your essays may be better used to focus on your strengths rather than building a case for why articleship should be included in full-time workex. We are certain that if you are driven to come to ISB, you would have a lot of other strengths & unique qualities that can make you an excellent candidate.
In the interest of helping your recommenders you may wish to discuss with them specific projects, situations and initiatives where you demonstrated specific qualities and stood out among your co-workers and peer group. Specific situations convey more about how you are outstanding rather than the use of generic qualitative adjectives.
