Extra curricular : had many but none asked.
Interview Centre:-bangalore
Essay topic:-India's liberalization -India 's balance sheet.
Comments about your performance :
GD topic and a description:-Indian youth is intellectualy good but physically weak.
Personal Interview:-nothing on trade or economy as a whole. very general interview.
Any other comments - I felt that since interview and everything was so general, those who read about economy a lot lost any advantage they could have received. also interviews for our batch were of strictly 10 mins so I am bit confused how would they judge.
PS - the topics I have mentioned are not verbatim but the gist was same.
Pls excuse typos!

10th marks : 88.50
12th marks : 82.33
Graduation marks/Stream/College : 77.5 / Computer Engineering / University of Mumbai
IIFT marks : 47.10
Work ex : Nil
Extra curricular : Nothing much to write home about
Interview Centre : Mumbai
Essay topic : 20 Years of Liberalization: India's Balance Sheet
Comments about your performance : Pretty good. It's a pretty factual topic, wrote the allotted 2 A4 sides (1 sheet) in a little over 12 minutes. (Big handwriting :splat:)
GD topic and a description : The Youth of India is Mentally Strong but Physically Weak
Comments : Again, a very easy topic. Infact, so easy that everyone had a multitude of points, leading to a fish market sort of situation once someone's point got over. Pretty much everyone made use of the moderating bell judiciously. Overall, it was a good GD though. Multifaceted and everyone was given a chance and spoke well.
Personal Interview : Very general. Pretty much a standard HR interview. All questions revolved more or less around your CV Form, so be thorough with that. No deep economic / current affairs funda asked (Although they were asked in general). Also, some guys were asked Acad Questions. Some questions from the same:
* Introduce Yourself
* Explain them meaning of your name (Got a very unique name, hence, I rote-learnt this yesterday specifically )
* Books you read apart from the ones in the CV form (The lady deliberately said to list the ones NOT listed in the CV Form, because, she knows that we write all management / economic books for impressing the panel )
* Learning from books
* Future Plans
* Recent economic / trade related headlines / headlines regarding Country X
* A bit on Extra Curriculars on your CV sheet.
That's about it. It lasted for 10 minutes, as AssassinCT said.
Any other comments - My first ever MBA College GD/PI experience. Pretty good. It was enjoyable. (No 30th floor sadly, it was on the 1st floor )
Your profile:-

Interview Centre:- IIFT, Kolkata
Essay topic:- 20 Years of Liberalization: India's Balance Sheet
Comments about your performance : Wrote a decent essay. Was happy with my performance.
GD topic and a description:- The Youth of India is Mentally Strong but Physically Weak
Comments about your performance : Again a decent performance. The topic was very generic and hence I lost some of the edge which I usually have in an abstract topic.
Personal Interview:- Very random experience. No Why MBA. No Why IIFT and No Job questions.
1) Tell me about yourself in very short.
2) Biggest achievement in life.
3) Take on globalization.
4) What different did RBI did from US Federal bank that India's conomy wasn't affected so much?
5) What is bandwith, frequency, 3G, 4G?
6) Explain frequency to a 12 class student.
7) Some random question of sound. - I said I was not confident in the topic.
8 )Do you read newspaper? I said I read blogs and wiki. came to SOPA/PIPA.
9) Davos meet? I said something about discussion on euro crisis but couldn't give the exact answer.
10) Why so less marks in 12th?
11) What Kiran Bedi did regarding travel money transfer to her NGO was right or wrong and Why?
Any other comments - I am concerned about my interview performance. I was calm and my body language was good. But the interview was too generic to allow someone to judge my actual skills.
It felt like a rapid fire convict trial in which the outcome was pre-decided...

I would say overall a 'good profile'. But that's what became my nemesis, or at least I think so.
Interview Centre:- Bangalore
Essay topic:- 20 years of liberalization: India's balance sheet
Comments about your performance :
I do not have much idea about economy in general as I don't read news. But whatever I had prepared and had read came handy. Wrote a decent essay, nothing very special.
GD topic and a description:- 'India's youth is healthy in mind, but weak in body'
Benefitted a lot from being the third person to speak during the individual time, and also since the first person spoke contrary to the topic to cover the reverse side. Had lot of points. Spoke a lot in GD. Overall I think GD went well.
Personal Interview:- Now here comes the special part.
As I enter, one mam asks me 'How did you do in the GD?'. I answered that the topic was tailor made for me as I am not physically very fit but intellectually I am doing OK. The gentleman in the middle told me that I was not just doing OK but doing well after looking at my profile. I told him influence of family.
Asked me acads. Superhetrodyne receiver, antenna etc. Answered them.
Now comes the special part - "Frankly, what is your percentile in CAT?". I told them honestly and told them had calls from ABLI. They said why do you want to join IIFT then, you will go to IIMs. Why are you here? Gave them my reasons, but I don't know if they were not convinced or what, but I got very mysterious smiles from the panel.
Got asked a few questions about why MBA? Why strategy consulting? What will you do if you get into Sales/marketing which you might not like? Why do you want to get out of your present job?
Finally, was asked something on Philately (Collecting since childhood, mentioned some prizes in form). What determines rarity of stamps? How big is your collection? What is your contribution and how much did you inherit?
Overall, since the moment I told them I had given CAT, they kept that mysterious smile and I felt that they were focusing too much on IIMs. I don't know if they will hold my calls against me.

GD topic and a description : The Youth of India is Mentally Strong but Physically Weak
Comments :An easy topic. Everyone contributed well. The group was quite disciplined , so satsifactory.
Personal Interview : Very general. They didn't ask me to introduce myself, rather they were reading it out from the form. No questions regarding international business or sorts. Some of the questions are :
* Why MBA aftr decent acads and a decent job in a decent company? (They were particularly interested in my company, so the questions were focused there)
* If you are the coach of a Women's volleyball team and ur best girl gets a ligament tear, what would u do?
(I faced d same wen i had gone to IIT-K for a summer camp, so told dem dat and den my decision for the situation presented)
* What do you mean by strategies??
( I used d term wen answering d previous question, so they caught upon dat!! Answered ok and dey said - u managed it quite beautifully nd smiled!! I dnt knw wat did they mean by dat!!)
* Who is ur company's Chairman? What does the company deal with?
(dat was an easy one again!!)
* What wud u choose - working for a banking company with a better salary or for the same u r working in, after MBA?
(Explained the restriction of work profile for girl Civil Engineers in the current scenario prevalent in India and then said if provided with an opportunity to contribute in the decision-making process of the company, I wud love to join back my comapny, cz d working envt. is pretty good dere and the rapport dat i already have will help me to gain a better growing curve. Kinda diplomatic answer cz the panelists were v happy dat i was working with the company, dunno why?? )
* Askd me from whr i m nd den the chief minister f my state nd to wich party does he belong?
(m frm Ranchi, answered it all ryt )
That's about it. 10 minutes and I was done!!

Essay topic : More indians have mobile phones than toothbrushes
A good topic ,lots to write about,a word limit of 300 words and time limit 20mins.Wrote some points regarding lack of inclusive growth etc.etc.
GD TOPIC : FDI OUTFLOW FROM INDIA
was fortunate to have a very mature group. No fish market situation and the process was very good. Lasted around an hour , everybody got a chance to speak. I pitched in some 4 to 5 points and everyone became the moderator exactly once. The panelists told us that we discussed the matter in a very cordial manner and it seemed as if it was a board meeting going on. No cutting short anyone.
PI ...
There were two panelists ...both males one was a very nice man told me to feel comfortable and the second person was there to just observe me.
Q1. What does your name mean ????
I do not have a very uncommon name but he still asked me...told him the meaning
Q2. What is Marketing???
Asked me because my undergraduate specialisation is marketing. Grilled me n this question for some time. But seemed satisfied in the end. In the end told ' When you go out just think about the question , if you do not understand, i will tell you "
Q3. What is your aim in life???
Q4. What is current account deficit??
Q5. What are the three golden rules of accounting??
Told him all the three
Q6. How can the indian government stop the flow of chinese goods into india???
This was my best answer and the panelists seemed really satisfied.
OVERALL IT WAS A GOOD EXPERIENCE ....HOPE THAT THE RESULTS TURN OUT TO BE ' A CONVERT'

Essay topic:- "More indians possess mobile than toothbrushes"-the implications?
Comments about your performance : Started with liberalization & how FDI led to boom in Telecom Sector.Managed to jot down mostly the positive points - How it helps the rural India to connect etc.Concluded by saying, good policy making could lead to similar boom in the areas of basic amenities too which need attention.
GD topic and a description:- FDI Outflows in India - boom or bane
During the 2 min intro, though I was the 5-6th to speak, I was the 1st to speak of it as a boom for India. After the 2 min round ended for everyone, initiated the GD with my point - How we can expect mutual growth & How India as an emerging company has now more of a doer role. GD followed very smoothly with people talking for as well as against it, putting together points like Airtel investing in Africa etc. An unusual part being, the 1st 5 mins, only the 4 girls of our group were speaking without much interruptions! I guess ladies-first it was!
This was the part I was most scared of, but IIFT GD really lived to its expectations in our group, well-organized no fish market scenario. However, our GD finished even before the moderators could say time-up!
& yes we didn't have any moderator from the students.
Personal Interview:-
P1,P2(Smiling Lady),P3(A gentleman with not-so-motivating looks)
P1:
1. Tell me about yourself
2. Career Objectives
3. Gave a case of him being an entrepreneur, & asked me what all he needs to consider when he is expanding his business globally.
He transfers the ball to P2
1. Asked about few sports related ECs in my form - which sport you like better.
2. Something related to what you liked about your company/work.
3. Had mentioned about helping community so asked how.
Over to P3
1. He just asks me about conditions in Greece?! Are you aware about it.
Started answering, wasn't expecting as didnt hear about any such thing from the previous experiences with the same panel. So fumbled a little which even made P1 ask if I knew about it. I said yes yes! & then continued further.
Any other comments - Be your own.No surprises in terms of the process. friendly panelists(apart from P3 of course), but really hoping they dont use Written score much to differentiate between the candidates!
Good Luck!

Essay topic: "More indians have mobile phones than toothbrushes" - the implications
I think I did an okay job here, but I needed to write another paragraph for it to be complete.
GD Topic: "FDI Outflow from India: Boon or bane"
It was a total fish market - picture 12 people making their own points repeatedly all at the same time. The moderator bell wasn't much use either.
I did manage to get two or three points in, but I'm not satisfied at all with my performance.
Personal Interview:
There were three members in the panel: a lady, an old professor and a younger professor (or alumnus)
1) What is the Web?
2) How do you like working in
3) Why do you want to do an MBA?
4) What makes you think your venture will be successful? (Entrepreneurship)
I don't really remember the remaining questions. In any case, I thought my interview went okay.
A word about the panel and the faculty. They were all really kind, and didn't try to intimidate. They let a guy in after the essay had begun, told him not to worry, that they'd give him extra time at the end, and even fetched a glass of water for him because he appeared out of breath!

GD topic and a description:- The youth of today's India are healthy in mind but weaker in body.
Personal Interview:-
1)Tell us about yourself.
2)You are from electrical background, presently working with software...how do you justify?
3) So, you dont regret anything?
4) Given a chance to shift to another vertical in your company?
5) Why international business? (told them about my entrepreneurship plans)
6) Do you know any person who has done an international MBA and was successful as an entrepreneur.
7) But Tata and birla dint have MBA. So, for entrepreneurship, MBA is not essential. Do you agree with me? (I agreed with him and told them I want to cut short the time period )
Bill gates became the richest person at a very young age. Why not you?
9) What exactly is foreign exchange reserve? What does it signify?
10) How do we obtain it?

Did a good job. Rose points about inclusive social growth. The problems of high poverty in some sections- the rise of maoists, etc.
GD Topic: "FDI Outflow from India: Boon or bane"
An occasional fish market, used my 2 mins well, but could enter only once during the GD. In fact, 2-3 people were speaking all the time. The moderator entered once to allow a lady to speak.
Personal Interview:
There were three members in the panel: a lady(most probably, Dr. Niti Nandini Chatnani), Dr K.T. Chacko, and a gentleman with a turban.
Chacko sir was a bit serious thruout the pi, but the other panelists were very cool and relaxed.
Here goes the transcript:
Me: gud afternun madam, gud afternun sir.
NNC: gud afternun, pls sit down. (Others simply nodded).
NNC: Dhiresh, u had to wait a long time, was this an advantage?
ME: umm..noo..not exactly an advantage, but not much of a disadvantage either.
NNC: So u work for wipro..
ME: yes mam
NNC: Do u think we shud waste a gud engineer for a gud manager?
ME: well, mam, i did Comp. engg. bcoz i was passionate about computers in school. In fact, i still love coding. but i don't see that as a career choice for myself. NNC: Wat kind of work u do there?
ME: Told.
NNC: Wat do u knw about islamic banking (I had said sumthng about my project for a bank in the middle east).

NNC: SO wat about its effect on ur business?

Essay topic: Tourism potential of India; strategies to harness it
Could have done much better. My eyes lit up when i heard the topic. Ye to school wala essay hai, upar se 20 min , fod dunga ye to But time just flew, spent a lot of time and more importantly wasted a lot of words on trying to give a background. Couldn't make many concrete points, conclusion bhi ek line ka hi ho paya and time was up :|
My advice to others Cut the crap and get down to your point straight away , keep in mind there is a word limit of 300 words.
GD Topic: "Targetted vs Universal food security in India"
We were given a good 5 mins to jot down our points and then a civilized discussion followed for the first half. Utilized my 2 mins well, but didn't really make many points when the floor was thrown open for all. Plus didn't really use the bell either.
Personal Interview:
A lady who had a disarming smile (L), a serious looking gentleman (M1) and a grandfatherly looking sir (M2)
M1 (did most of the talking) - So you want to do MBA in finance? Explain
Me- I had known all along this question was coming , i tried a lot to form an answer yesterday but nothing impressive came to mind. So just spoke whatever came to mind in the interview
M1 didn't seem too satisfied, i don't blame him, so he probed me further on certain basic financial concepts. I think i did pretty well in this part of the interview. Since i had a lot to say , i took my own sweet time to explain
L- So why switch to IT and then MBA?
Me- Answered and answered well
M2- Tell me about college and extra curriculars
Me- Was pretty frank in this part and didn't try to window dress the facts. Everyone started smiling.
M2- Asked me about a book i had mentioned in the form ( the book was rather uncommon). And yet i'm pretty sure he had read it too :-o
Me- Explained a lil about the story, why i liked it, a little about the author.
That was it. Around 10 minutes
A good experience, especially the GD. Need to work more on my WAT skills :banghead:
The faculty are extremely nice, their intention is not to give anyone a hard time, so just be calm, be mindful of what you speak in the interview. If you plan on using any jargon be sure you know the in and out of it,else avoid. That's about it. Also a blazer is not compulsary, so all those out there wondering 'suit khareedu kya', don't worry, formal shirt trousers and a tie would be just fine
ATB to everyone.

Same here! I too thought gave much focus on background. To the top of it, didn't carry any watch. As soon as the moderator said 5 mins remaining, jumped to conclusions.
Me- I had known all along this question was coming , i tried a lot to form an answer yesterday but nothing impressive came to mind. So just spoke whatever came to mind in the interview
Followed the same strategy here, fumbled a little which even made the panelist ask if I was nervous. But continued well after that.I guess it makes more sense not to go & say the well-rehearsed answer, but being clear on the content is a must for it.
