@saurav205 said:Hi Avinash ,Wanted to ask a few questions :Though i know the GIM cut off for last year...I also has a call for gd/pi...had 84 in xat..did decently in the process of gd/pi...But did not make it through...Last year when i had applied had work ex of around 8 months...working with Accenture..my acads are mentioned below:10 - 90.412 - 71.6BE - ENC 73.2Work ex as of now 17 months...Now the xat score/cmat score has 50% weightage if i am not wrong...so wanted to get a rough idea of the median xat score of your batch....since I will be giving xat again this year..and have already applied at GIM again (its one of my fav colleges)..So please provide some insight as to how much should I aim for....I know it sounds a bit absurd..but it will give me an idea...I am almost entirely dependent on Xat now..plus it will also be my last shot.... so if you can provide any tips for xat pls do that..Also I know that ifmr is really good for finance...but somehow the profiles offered are not mentioned on the web site..and what i know from last year seniors the profile offered werent too good...And last one was merger and acquisition offered at GIM to any of the students..I am interested in M&A...so; just wanted to know that..Thanks..
I'll like answering the IFMR part of the query.

Thanks for the insight..on similar lines was M&A; offered??? (final placement or SIP)
Also is FE better than the mba in finance??

For executive course from IIMs, XLRI etc you require minimum 5 years experience. GLIM offers a one year program even for people with 2 years experience but placements are biased towards I.T industry. Also in GMAT if you want to get through a good college you would need experience of more than 5 years . In some institutes you can get through with 2-3 year experience but then you have to back it up with some good extra curricular activities.

M&A; as an exclusive domain was not offered. If you want M&A; profile you should look for colleges offering international placements because in India most of the foreign banks have only their operations department and Indian banks rarely offer this profile in campus placements.
Financial Engineering is more into financial modelling, risk management and derivatives . this is a specialized course while MBA, finance is a more broad course. It is very difficult to say which is better rather it depends on your interest.

guys i dont know this is a rumour or reality... but some of my friends who are in tier 2 b schools top 20-40 they say commerce students (b.com, bba etc) suffer a lot during final placements excluding CA & CS because companies prefer engineers, CA & CS over commerce graduate... is this true ??

Median XAT Score of the batch is around 90%ile.
It's not that one cannot convert at a lower %ile.
GD/PI Performance is very important and if you do well in that, you will def get through.
Let me know what other query you have with regards to GIM.
Hey Puys, Can some one share that which all colleges give extra marks for Non-Engineering students in the final Selection Process?
@sudhanshugup said:Hey Puys, Can some one share that which all colleges give extra marks for Non-Engineering students in the final Selection Process?
There are 1 or 2 IIM's. IIM Lucknow is one of them.
There could be few more colleges.
Try checking the websites of colleges that you intend to apply. You will find the selection criteria in some of the websites.
Not every college shares about these things.
Which bschools should I apply to having attempted only 23 questions in CAT(30 Oct. 10:00AM)?

@losetowin With 23 attempts it will be a bit challenge for you to secure an optimal percentile. As you have only 7 months experience and have time at your side, I would suggest you to give another shot at CAT. However, I assume you would also applied to XAT, SNAP and other examinations. Concentrate on them, work hard and give your best to secure good scores.
