hi seniors.. i have a query, at the time of filling the form, i entered my Work exp as 11 months as on 31st august, 2012. I am working in IT services MNC. at the time of gd/pi i will be having almost 17, 18 months exp. so which one they are going to consider? 11 months or 18 months??

another query: do I fit for the lateral placemets with this much work exp ? otherwise I heard that many comapnies prefer freshers for marketing, and other non IT experienced guys over us..

Just to add to what Avinash bro said... SIOM (Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management) witnessed terrific placements scenario last time around (and that has been the general trend for quite some time now). Sorry, just felt its unfair when my own college is left out of discussions, having climbed up the ranks despite being a niche institute.

SIOM Class of 2012 CTC figures :-

Avg. CTC (for laterals)= 8.41 INR
Avg. CTC (for freshers)= 6.17 INR
Median CTC= 7.10 INR

By looking at your scores they look a bit on the lower side, but let me tell you a work experience in a construction company is like gold dust.

I hope that everything else gets eclipsed by your work ex which really stands out.

All the colleges these days are desperately looking for people from non IT background.

So just go for it and all the best.

Dude IIT B and D are really tough with a score of 97.

I also had a score of 97+ but believe me this score is just a average score and you need to be very high on acads to get into IIMs..

So I will just advice to fill forms of all good reputed institutes and then decide.

With 97+, you have MDI, IMI,IMT, NITIE, SP JAIN ....

@[605669:idas2] see ur grades are on the lower side.. so I ll suggest you to look for institutes which don't give much weightage to previous acads.

MDI is one of those.

Moreover, asking how much i should score is irrelevant question to ask because you need to score as high as you can :)

I want to know about the colleges under SNAP which give more weightage to verbal while shorlisting? And do they have any sectional cutoffs?

There are no sectional cut off's for colleges under SNAP. So for giving a GD/PI call, there is no question of weightage to verbal.

For final conversion, college has it's own break up of weightages given to various components. Try visiting the helpdesk threads of individual colleges.

Don't get bogged down because of that. That is something which is not in your hands. Try to maximise your CAT/XAT Score as much as you can. ATB.. !!

Will mah grad percentage screw up mah chances ?if even i score a good cat percentile?

1. First of all, I would suggest you to be sure of your motives. You say you are targeting CAT 2013 but you are asking which B-Schools to apply.

2. If at all you want to apply to B-School for mock purpose, I suggest you to wait for CAT Results or rather CAT Exam and then decide later on based on your performance or your result.

3. Your grads marks will def hamper your chances to some extent, at least in the IIM's and few other colleges.

4. Try to improve as much as possible in your grads marks.

5. Rest everything is fine. Get back for any further query. ATB.. !!

did not prepare sincerely for both of them.

Xth : 88 % (ICSE)

XII th : 86 % (CBSE)

B.Tech :76.5 %

Work Ex : 4 months internship in IT

12 months job in IT

Extracurricular : almost none

have scored as low as 60 in AIMCATs and as high as 97. On an average scoring between 80-95. Please suggest me the colleges i should apply to and what can i expect from CAT.

If you keep working hard then you can expect the range of your AIMCAT scores to narrow a bit. May be from a low of 83 to a high of 98.

But still you never know what is going to happen in CAT. Just keep working at your weaker areas and am sure you will do really good. If you get good scores in AIMCATs then expect it to be the same in CAT, and if you are not able to score good in AIMCATs then think that it is going to be a different ball game altogether in CAT. So any which way you will do good.

Also keep in mind that apart from CAT there are other exams as well like XAT,SNAP,IIFT,NMAT et al. Give your CAT and after that dont sit back and relax. Just for 45 more days or so keep the intensity going(till XAT).

So if not CAT may be XAT(or SNAP/NMAT...)

Colleges where you can apply would be IMI Delhi, MDI G, NITIE, XIMB, IIFT, SIBM P et al. The last dates for all the IITs go beyond the CAT results, so need not worry about them.
