Dear PUYS need some serious views.......I know B-schools comparison is not allowed in PG.Just wanted to confirm good B-schools in Kolkata except IIM-C. I have 5 years experience and currently getting good package..... 1. EIILM2. IISWBM3. Globsyn4. International School of Business5. IBS, Kolkata
Like any product or service or innovation, our b-schools are also in a life-cycle graph, wherein one needs to figure out the phase of the life-cycle these schools are in right now. If you join a b-school that has gone into a slow growth phase over the last few years, then inevitably your batch may represent the downward slope. Similarly, a b-school that is consistently innovating and rediscovering themselves would be a good place to be in - since the upward slope will define future standing of the bschool amongst recruiters and corporate and will give you a distinct advantage throughout your career.
The function of points in the graph of a b-schools like cycle is proportional to high/low scores of - current pedagogy, placement profiles and opportunities, student mix/diversity and profiles, and faculty+infra.
@pankaj.jena1988 Whether the institute is good/bad is subjective. It might be good for someone but bad for someone else. I would rather recommend you study facts about the institutes and then decide for yourself. Factors you'll need to study include location, faculty (qualification, teaching methodology, research papers done etc.), alumni base (how many batches and where they're now), industry/corporate interaction, other extra-curricular/co-curricular activities, college/student life, peer group, infrastructure (IT setup, library, cafeteria, equipment used in classroom etc.), placements and any other personal conditions/criteria you may have.
Since you have 5yrs of work exp, I personally would recommend only 1yr programs like ISB, Hyderabad or the PGPX programs in IIMs, GMP in XLRI etc.
@SNaveenMathew Dude your profile is good. Acads are also decent and B.Tech at IIT! But then unless you tell how many qns you attempted in CAT with expected accuracy, your area of interest in MBA etc. no one can tell where to target. Just based on your profile, SPJIMR may be a possible one where you'll get a GDPI call, but then provided you can score 85+ in CAT.

No one can comment about slot level or the normalization thing.
As per last year's trends, you can expect a %ile of 96+

After Results --> IIT's
If doing MBA is a compulsion this year, then few back up's --> FORE, LBS, NIRMA, UBS, TAPMI, BIM-T, etc.
There is no specific cut off.There is a centralised GD/PI Process through DTE.Then merit list is prepared and colleges are allotted as per Merit Rank. Hope it is clear now. Get back in case of any query.
@avinashkrjha : sorry if this question has been answered in previous post...is there any maharasthra quota in synheam......also cut off for OMS...in both cases ..ie if quota exist or if it doesn't exist.....??? thanks in advance

Yes, there is quota for Maharashtra.
For OMS, only 15% seats are reserved.
There is no specific cut off.

Hi Seniors,Please find my profile as mentioned below. 10th:80.0% 12th:69.0% B.Tech(Mech Engg):74% Work Exp: 48 months( 36 months in IT and 12 months in Core Sector) CAT 2011 score: 89.83%le XAT 2012 score: 80.56%le With the above profile and score shall I apply for GreatLakes PGPM course(Cycle1) for which the last date is 30th Nov.Also,is it worthful to apply for my experience.I am currently working in a reputed IT company. I would be really thankful if somebody can help me on this.
A one-year MBA program is the only MBA course which can do justice to your 4 years of work exp. Where you do it also matters. Great Lakes is a good option AFAIK, and one of the fast upcoming 1yr programs with good prospects after the course. The profile you may get after the course MAY be in IT itself, and that will justify your 3 years of IT work exp also. You can probably ask seniors in the thread given above to know better about kind of profiles offered etc.

None of them are worth it. besides IIFT - Kolkata and the one in Joka all management colleges in Kolkata are below par. FYI One of these colleges called/mailed me and congratulated me for my CMAT score a week before the results. Also by some strange luck I qualified for their GD/PI even before the results without even filling up any forms. IISWBM, I thought was a great place : really but PG gave a reality check. Kinda shocked really with regards to this. Its really a sad state of affairs w.r.t higher management education here..
