[2023] Which B-Schools should you apply to?

@asa said: @avinashkrjha @visionIIM-ACL I am interested in doing Operation Management.Where should I apply?10th-8112th-75Btech-71Cat-11-61%ileXAT-11 62%ile.

You can do Operations Management from all the top b-schools. But few colleges are specifically known for Ops. The top of those are :
NITIE Mumbai
SPJAIN Mumbai
IIT Bombay

Apart from this, you can try to get into other top B-Schools like IIT Delhi, IIT Kgp, JBIMS, IIM's, NMIMS, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, etc..

If you go a bit further down, and appear for SNAP, college specifically for Ops is SIOM, Nashik. So you can apply there.

Stay tuned to this thread for details of dates, registering and all. All the best for preps.. !!

Now that you have asked, I would suggest you to think on this yourself and take a decision. If you want to learn about management, then go for MBA. But you should target only top b-school, else you should go for bank po. It is more a question of personal choice.

Your marks are decent. But since you don't have any work ex, you might have to score very high percentile in CAT to get calls from most of the IIM's. Having said that, it is not impossible to get calls from IIM I or IIM B. Try to score as high as possible in CAT as you can't change much about your profile now. Apart from IIM's, there are other B-Schools in top 20 from where you can get calls if you score the required marks/percentile in written examination. e.g. IIT's, NMIMS, JBIMS, SPJAIN, SIBM-Pune, IMT-Gzb, MDI-Gudgao, IIFT, etc.. All the best.. !!

do i have to fill college forms before CAT results??

Buddy you need to check every college deadline and before that you have to submit the form....

It would be before cat result in most of the colleges..

Yes, def. You can get into XIMB. And for Orissa Domicile, the cut offs are less as compared to Non-Domicile people.

Cut off 2012:

Domicile : 84 in CAT/XAT
Non-Domicile : 94 in CAT/XAT

All the best buddy.. !!

1. Cut offs are not different as per your marks in 10th, 12th or Grads or work-ex. But every college has it's eligibility criteria. Like few college have 60%, few have 70%, few give some 10% weight to marks or work-ex, etc..

2. Your 12th class marks can be a hindrance for few of the colleges. Apart from that you are eligible for all the colleges if you can score the Cut Off Percentile.

3. All the best.. !!
Extra-curricular achievements alwz helps in getting thru...it gves an xtra edge to all d candidates...in almst all colgs...

I am not that much active here in PG, plsease PM me. I am a cat 2012 aspirant. i have some queries.
10/12/btech IT: 86state board/77 state board/8.2 dgpa WBUT
WE: currently 10 months in cognizant. will be around 19 mnths if i get in this yr.
category: SC
xtra curri: yoga champion, quiz n li'l bit..not much.
my concerns are mainly ROI, I am not targeting IIMs due to financial constraint(I know about scholarships, but still the tuiton fee is

too high)rather I want IIT/FMS/NITIE. I have financial constraints. and i want to choose my specialization before choosing college. my

likes are marketing/operation/IT(as I am a software engg)(NO for finance)
1. pls let me know, which college gives profile based calls?(coz seniors told me my acads are decent)

2. which of the IITs are good in terms of specialization and ROI and lateral placements?som, delhi,kgp...is it?

3. cut offs for SC candidate in 2012 at som, del, kgp?
well u may find my queries insane. but kindly reply me.
its not like that I dont like coding and technical stuff, I want MBA coz I need bigger job profile, where I can talk to people, seriusly take part in projects, take decisions, provide solutions and also I want better pay package. preps are average but I am confident that I wl do good, plz advice me, how should I approach? what should be my plan?
thanks in advance to all the seniors.

1. All the IIT's are good. But if we go by PG Rankings, then the order is B,D,Kgp,K,M,R.

2. Kgp gives profile based calls.

3. Cut offs : Refer my post on Page 1 & 2. You will get to know the cut offs for 2011 and 2012 for general category. For SC category, try browsing the previous year's PG Threads for individual colleges.

4. All the IIT's are good for Operations.

I am doing BTech in CSE..in final year now. 76.8% in 10th and 68.6% in 12th. 66.1% in graduation till 6th semester. I want to join the oil and gas companies as few of them are there in my state. For this I am thinking of applying for RGIPT and UPES.. so will my career diversion help or will it bring more problems for me? Will I get job keeping in mind my undergraduation? I don't want to do MTech in IT or similar ones as I am not much interested in technology anymore and I am not eligible for MTech in Petroleum technology..So only MBA is left...so will it be a good career turn for me?

In my view, it is not advisable to be very restrictive in your ambitions. RGIPT and UPES are colleges specific to the sector you want to get it, but you should aim for much better B-Schools. You can always join oil and gas companies even after graduating from other B-Schools. So try applying to as many B-Schools especially which have Operations as an option (seeing your interest towards oil and gas). Hope this helps. Get back for any further query.
