It is not only about IT Domain. But the point is that it is not easy to change your domain when you have heavy work-ex. e.g If you want to change from IT to Finance or Sales or Marketing. That doesn't mean that it is not at all possible but companies have this selection criteria which they don't mention explicitly. And the situation is same across all the B-Schools except for may be top 4-5 institutes. @rajatpal87 There are certain reasons why most of the companies don't shortlist people with heavy work-ex. They think that higher amount of work-ex brings some rigidity in the person and he/she will not be open to anything as compared to freshers. Moreover, the work-ex is not in the sector in which they work. Also, they could demand a higher package at a later stage. And this is more true for Summer Placements. In finals, you will def have more chances as compared to Summers.

This is not to discourage anyone out here but just to inform what lieas ahead. All the Best.. !!

on top of it what avinash has already stated , each company is unique with unique set of rules and procedures for selection .. so its not biased against any domain ,, its plain and simple if they feel some candidates are better suited for their profiles , then you cant do anything ..

Same is the case when certain firms choose to goto just IIMs or offer certain profiles there ,, its not a democracy everywhere :)

Typically the admission criteria of the college reflects the kind of requirements from the companies during placements .. more non enggrs , more females , more profile based calls are all after effects of feedback from the industry to the colleges

It has not yet started.

Last year cut off was somewhere near 86.

Placements : Approximately 6.5-7

Very low Fee.

I want some help from the experienced ppl out here:

AIMCATS scoring btwn 80-85 wid average acads.

Have shortlisted the following colleges:: TAPMI, KJ Som, IMI, BIM, NIRMA, GIM, FORE.

I know comparison is not allowed in PG, hence could any1 plz help (PM) me by providing the preference order for applying to these.

Kindly help me out here....sorry if I am violating forum regulations.

I would suggest you to focus right now on Written Exams and after that on converting all the colleges that you get calls from. After you get all converts, then get back to any of us through PM so that we can help you in selecting the best option.

Well it depends because there are number of B schools available now and all are offering the best attractions but just rely on the exact match to your suits.

Need your valuable suggestion. Below are my Acads:

X : 88%
XII : 94%
B.E : 81%

Work-ex : 38 months in IT (as of now). Will hit above 40 in 2013 March.

Planning to go for a 2yr MBA with Specialization in HR (Open to other streams, too). I have heard from few friends that work ex of more than 3 years will have a detrimental effect on my admission. Just want to know whether that applies even if I pursue an MBA in HR.

Also, my mock CAT scores are oscillating around 85 percentile. Please throw some light on the above concern and also, if doing an MBA is appreciable at this stage, suggest some B schools which I should shortlist and apply to.

Note : Have been devoting full time for CAT prep now.

1. It is same for whether you go for HR or Fin or Marketing. You can check my replies to @rajatpal87 in the last 2 pages and you will know some of the reasons around it.

2. Please let us know which institute's mock you are scoring 85?

3. Assuming it is TIME/CL's, you can expect to score 90+ %ile. Try working harder from now on so that you can score high.

4. Now that you will have almost 4 yrs of work-ex when you enter a b-school, I would suggest you to target the Top 25/30 colleges only (My personal suggestion).

5. Since your acads are good, you have a good chances of call from IIM's if you score very high in CAT. So focus all your energy in preparations now.

Do you have any idea about byju mocks....i m getting around 97 to 98 percentile in that.......don't know how it is on the larger scale as no. of candidates in Byju'[s mock is less than that in TIME/CL. So i m not getting a possible correlation......Can u please help me so that i can analyse the situation in a better way......

Sorry but even I don't have any idea about BYJU Mocks.

I would suggest you to take at least 1 or 2 CL/TIME Mocks and get back here with your Mock Score.. !!
