KITTY PARTY CHAOS
27 August 2014
My wife and I were born and raised in India.Currently, we
are living in a different part of the country where we are called "NORTH
INDIANS".
In the beginning we had a bigger friend's (mix culture)
circle. We were busy on every Friday evening where the party lasts till
Saturday early morning.
But with time, some of our friends moved to North Indian and
some went abroad.
Now, we don't have bigger circle and my wife misses the
girly chit-chat. One day our lady neighbor asked my wife to join Kitty party
group.
On one shiny day, my wife joined the group where they meet
once in a month and chit-chat continuously for hours. It was going perfect in the
beginning but after some meetings, people started speaking in their regional
language.
My wife didn't understand that, she requested them to speak
in Hindi or in English (in whichever they feel comfortable) so that she can
also equally contribute.
But they asked my wifi to learn their language. Their
audacity really shocked her. When she asked why?.They started making ludicrous
statements.
How can a person learn a language so quickly and BTW Kitty parties
are for fun and not to make a fun of someone.
I am a so-called North Indian, my family is from North. My
wife works in an IT sector and her client is not even INDIAN.She knows enough
to deal with Auto-rickshaw wala and sabji wala.
No one listened to her and in their next meet she again
requested for the same but they raised their eyebrows and started speaking in
their regional language.She felt neglected.
I still remember, when I was in college I had friends from
different parts of the country but these resistive thoughts never came to my
mind. Not even once.I am not obsessed with the language I speak. I don't ask anyone's
surname before saying "Hi".Finally, she has decided to stop attending the
ongoing nagging meets and will deposit Rs 1000/- every month to me and I have
to give her 10000/- in return after 10 Months.
We talk a lot about diversity but In India itself we still
endure racism.
Do we really need a particular language to communicate or
accepting each other with alacrity will work?
