Exp : 60 Month ( IT Services), Domain: Insurance, cross sector

well my experience mostly revolves around IT delivery and services. After my MBA I want to handle IT operations for an organization in Financial services. another aim is to get international work experience in Europe. I see growth in this sector as FDI is set to increase in this sector.
I do not know any foreign language. I am interested in b-schools in Europe. I need help in profile evaluation and short-listing of colleges.
Can anyone help???
Hi MbaCrystal Ball and TraderJoe,
I have admits from NUS, MBA, Georgetown MBA and MIS,CMU. I have 5 years of IT exp in a global MNC out of which 2 years were spent at onsite. 730 in Gmat
I have ruled out Georgetown bec of huge cost and risk factor.
Please let me know which of the other 2 is a better option considering value it would provide in terms of ability to provide better job opportunities, career push, brand value, ROI and satisfaction.
Ideally my goal is Consulting/Business development-->Strategy-->Management.
I am open to not taking up any of the above and continue in IT roles available if u think none of the above will give me that push. However, I think MIS@Carnegie would be better than doing nothing. Atleast will give me a good entry to US IT.
Thanks

Doing 'nothing' is often better than doing 'something' that's not linked to your goals. Specially when that 'something' is expensive and will take away precious time from your productive professional life.
If your goals are strategy, mgmt etc, I don't think you should feel the pressure to get into an MIS program just for the heck of it. You are already working in an MNC. If working in the US is your priority, you could ask your employers to send you on a deputation.
If it's a good MBA with a good RoI that you are looking for, I'd go with NUS.

Apply right now to USA Top 5 Business schools and maybe a couple ranked 6-20. Right now, you are a good fit for Harvard and Stanford. Contact one of the consultants for help in spinning your story and writing your essays. Else buy a book on MBA essays from Amaon.com
Note: I am NOT a consultant.

Don't know anything about NUS. CMU will give you good job on Wall Street in IT area. For consulting / strategy work, you need MBA.
Note: I AM NOT A CONSULTANT.
cognizant_81,
Please stop posting the same thing over and over again. I've made it very clear that you are to post only once. You are not a newbie so it's weird that I have to point out the rule about multiple posts to you. Have some patience, a consultant will reply. If you cannot wait, PM the specific person and wait for their reply.
cognizant_81 Says@Neo ihave already sent in PM didnt get any reply so i posted here and as the concerned person was replying all posts but didnt reply to my post so i thought he must have missed my post so just posted again.
Dude!! Chill out a bit!! Sending a PM AND multiple posting comes very close to harassment!!. Understand that consultants are giving up their free time to help you. There is no SLA(service level agreement) that they HAVE-TO respond to queries. TraderJoe isn't even a consultant, just a regular person who is giving up his free time to help folks. You have to give them some time to reply. A week's worth of patience will not affect your plans in any way. If, after a week you haven't yet received a reply, PM me and I will see what I can do. Otherwise you will just have to accept that you won't be getting a reply here and should seek info elsewhere.
Please, do not do the multiple posting AND PMs.
ihave 26 months of work ex in hardcore sector and left that company was at home and have few months of experience in NGO after 1st job.then iwould be joining another company(hardcore sector).
Cognizant anna,
Though I'm not the guy that you've sent the PM to, with your permission I'll try to address your query:
>> any chances of getting admit at INSEAD singapore campus for academic year 2012?
The selection process and the entry criteria aren't different for the two campuses. So you'll have to address the loose ends in the story. We don't know what you do at work (apart from the sector that you've listed). But the work-ex is low. So if you want to be competitive at this school, you'll really need to pull your socks up and do a much better job of presenting your profile than you've done here.
>> 2)how much scholarship can i avail with this kind of profile?
Without knowing the real strength of your profile (I'm hoping you'd work towards putting in a much stronger appln), I can't comment on whether you'll get any scholarship.
But what I can share is the story of one of the candidates we helped get into INSEAD in the last season. He got a scholarship in his second year of application. His profile was pretty strong. He had clear post-MBA goals and he had a good (not great) GMAT.

Thanks for a very direct answer. I am currently in the US but want to make that career move(education) which will give me the stability and that edge which will continue to provide value in the future. I dont want to wait much longer to find out if I need further impetus through education to pursue a satisfying career.
Ideally I would want to do my MBA and move in the pursuit of my goals. But I have seen a lot of MBA's in India even from IIM's and ISB ending up as IT consultants in IT firms. If that would be the end result, I think I would be better of doing IT consulting or related work in the US market with the help MIS from CMU, a safer haven. Thats because if not anything else, MIS would give me that CMU brand value which is well recognized in the US and also equip me with better skills to prosper in the US IT Market which I think is much better than India IT market.
Having said that, I consider any MBA to be a worthy investment of time, effort and money only if it can provide the career push to job roles that lead to achievement of career goals, good ROI throughout one's career as well as the basic skill sets that will help oneself perform better and keep oneself competitive in the job market both in the short and the long term.
Was just worried it the NUS MBA would fit into such worthy investment category especially the value or the push that it can provide to help me make the move to Startegy/Business Development.
If the ans is no, I would take the safer haven of MIS from CMU. Let me know if my understanding or thought process is incorrect/ not sensible.
Thanks
Hi,
I am a new memeber here; Thanks for creating such a nice thread.
I like to say little bit about my profile for evaluation; if some consultatnt can address it I will be realy thankful.
Work-experience: 6.5 years work-experience in IT; among which 3 years in US (onsite) in a client-facing position. I have experience of leading a team as big as 14.
I mostly worked in banking domain; with credit card business. Currently I work in projets for a major credit card company in US.
GMAT score: 710 (verbal: 39/87%, Math: 48/82%, AWA: 5.0)
Class X: 90%
Class XII: 87.6%
B.tech (Comp Sc & Engg): 81%
MS (Software engg, distatant learning from BITS-Pilani): CGPA 7.88
Extra-curricular activity: Organized a few evenstin school and college level but nothing major. I idn't have any involvement withany NGO etc; so no certificate to showcase.
Have a national award in an essay competition in class XII level (not sure if it at all matters).
I am planning to apply in ISB and SP Jain PGPM pogram, probably also in IIM-A for 1 year executive-MBA. Can you please evaluate my chance for getting in there? Since I don't have significant extra-curricular activities will it go against me?
Thanks

I agree with you on the fact that CMU is a strong brand, but I'd like to disagree on the rationale that you've outlined.
The MBA and MIS degrees are meant for two very different objectives.
Bad example to illustrate what I mean. If I had a calcium tablet in one hand and an iron pill in the other - I wouldn't just pop the iron pill just because it was stronger in potency than the other one. I'd go for the one that fills my need the most, right?
Just curious to know, if you weren't convinced about what NUS can or cannot do for you, why did you include in it your list?
I think NUS is a good school and Singapore may offer similar if not better opportunities in the Asia region than many American schools on their homeground.
If you are happy staying in the IT field in the US, go for CMU. But let that not be as a backup option to regular MBA programs. Also, if you have considerable expierence, you should really think if an MIS degree (irrespective of the brand) can really make any difference to the career opportunities. Or will you start re-considering an MBA degree 4-5 years after your MIS?
For other applicants reading the post, convince yourself on the choice of degrees and schools before you apply, so you don't end up comparing apples to oranges .

Hum kaun hai
Hello Dear Consulting Team,
Kindly consider my profile for a quick evaluation:
GMAT: 740 (AWA: 5.0)
Xth: 90%
XII: 86%
Graduation: Throughout Distinction all 8 Sems. of Engineering (Bombay University)
Work Ex:
1) 10 Months in Accenture (IT) (Associate Software Engineer -- Didn't do much here. Tremendous IT Slowdown)
2) 14 Months in a startup (Excellent experience here. Got to work directly on foreign client projects. Also, handled a really big Indian corporate attending meetings with CTOs and India Heads. Was a single POC for most project)
3) Past 11 Months - Left my job to start a mobile marketing firm. Operated as a single consutant, with a small team to handle menial tasks. Revenues of over $75,000 in less than a single year. Got to partner with a leading Australian client. Currently working for Israel, UK and US based clients. Was also offered to setup an India office by the primary Australian client, which I refused citing I would like to maintain my firm's independence. The client also cited something about equity funding, M&A; contracts etc. which I had no clue . Also, would like to understand how to scale up my business and hence felt a MBA (Entrepreneurship) could help me and gave the GMAT.. scoring 740. Looking mostly for a few 11 month courses (US, Europe or Asia)
My Questions:
1) My firm is marketing based, and considering my options, which MBA schools/courses will suit me the most? I am mostly thinking entrepreneurship with a blend of marketing courses, but would like help. Am a NEWBIE!
2) Anything which harms my profile currently and I can improve upon.
3) Chances of a scholarship?
Thanks for your help. Mods, if anything is wrong in my format, kindly excuse and correct me.
Thanks,
Ted.
Hi,
Thanks for starting such a wonderful thread.
I have certain queries. Need some advice from the experts.
I have got offers from Nottingham Business School (UK), Rouen Business school (France). I am waiting for EMYLON business school (France) post interview result & got an interview call from Strathclyde Business School (Glasgow).
I am very much interested in joining EMYLON (if I am able to make it) .However, if in case I am unable to convert it, where should I go?
I am confused between going to Nottingham Business School / Strathclyde (if I am able to convert the interview call) - UK and going to Rouen Business School France. After the new Visa rules in UK, things have changed now.Don't even know whether I would even get a job there because of new stringent rules.
I have no issues with studying in UK or France. Would you advice studying in Nottingham Business School / Strathclyde or should I go for France? But how good is the Rouen Business School? Everything about the school actually looks good. Over 100 companies visit the school for recruitment. But still is it worth going to the school?
Thanks,

I want to know if NUS and NTU are good targets to aim for or am I asking for too much. Also, can you please suggest a few schools(Preferably in Asia) that I can try with my profile.
Cheers & Thanks,

Your profile sounds pretty much like the majority of folks who apply to the schools on your list. What can make a big difference is in an area where you've not shared much - your post-MBA goals.
There's where your foresight, planning and maturity will be evaluated. Right now we have half the story. So do work on that part as well.
