Pallavi-ji, your concerns about (not) getting a job after graduating are justified. All the more reason for you to to do your own research about this school or any other for that matter before you pay anyone - the school, the consultant and everyone else in the payment queue.
Even if you are going to be just a student, be an aware and demanding customer of biz education. Also, sticking to time-tested rules of English grammar and spelling will do a lot of good to the Adcoms reading your application. And discussion forums are a great place to start practising.
Good luck and have a fantastic education, a masst career and a great life, Pallavi.
Actually I have already posted one of my queries in the thread. Some part of it was answered .However, the other part still remains uncleared.
I have got admit calls from Nottingham ( UK ) & Rouen Business School.I have a fair idea about Nottingham , but I don't have much idea about Rouen Business School ( France ) .The school looks good. I had spoken to the program director during the interview.Everything looks good ,but does any1 here has got any idea about Rouen Business school ? Plss kindly help me to decide.
UK new visa rules have made me to think again about going to UK .I don't wana get into a difficult situation after graduation.
Moreover, I know to survive in France & to work as a consultant over there , you got to be fluent in French.I will do that .Thats not an issue, but how good is the school ?
...but I don't have much idea about Rouen Business School ( France ) ..
Hi Sachin,
I skip posts where I think I can't add value. I haven't heard of Rouen, so won't be able to help you there, except for the look-before-you-leap advice I gave in my last post to Pallavi. Maybe others familiar with it might pitch in with specific insights.
About I'm curious. How did you end up with an acceptance offer from a school that you don't know anything about?

Hi Sameer ,
Thanks a ton for replying.
Actually , I have some idea about Rouen Business School. However, I am unable to decide anything, because of certain reasons.I think I didn't write clearly in my post.
I had gone through the website, brochure & had spoken to the Rouen Business school program director during the interview. The business school is also there in the FT rankings . I had also spoken to one person , who is going there this year .I have got good feedback from everyone. However , I am still doubtful because of just one reason - " France " .When I started my GMAT , essays , applications etc , I wanted to go to either US or UK .However , due to some financial issues & not getting calls from my dream schools , I had to apply to European schools .
Thanks for replying . Hope someone could help me to decide. After all its one of the biggest decision of my life & I want to be 100 % sure about it.

Thanks for the additional info.
I couldn't see it in the latest FT rankings, but the earlier rankings (2009 and before) do have it at around 50th rank. But you are right, there isn't much maal-masala available out there about it apart from the formal marketing material.
Hope you are able to get some more details about it. Do check out on the other thread on PG and also other international forums. See if you can get in touch with current students.
What other things can I do to be 100 % sure . One thing is for sure. I will talk to some of the alums of the school, but what else ?
Really appreciate your efforts .Thanks for replying...

Dilema: with my given constraints, I can only do one year MBA (from India only) - this leaves me with ISB as the only option. My current compensation is almost is in line with ISB median salary. Should i give a shot at ISB? - will double MBA help me to match my aspirations?
: Target Schools: NUS, NTU Singapore....Targeting Singapore for MBA(US schools are an option, but only if it is extremely attractive for my profile) : I want to know if NUS and NTU are good targets to aim for or am I asking for too much.
Yes, they'll be a good match. If, as you are open to US schools, then there's a much bigger list. But you'll have to define 'extremely attractive' and then filter it down.
Hello Sameer -- I request you to please answer questions mentioned at end of this post. I really need your help to start things going. Thanks in advance for helping me out.

I want to pursue 1 year MBA program and that is the only thing I know. I sincerely need suggestions from you.
Questions: a) Which MBA course should I look forward. I am leaning more towards Management Consulting as it is currently linked with my profile of consulting. b) Please suggest which colleges to focus on? Or at least where and how to look for good MBA colleges. c) I have heard of people saying one should improve its extra-curricular. How can I do that?
Hope you don't mind me chipping in instead of Sameerbhai
Profile details
Profile is solid but nothing exceptional. Your foreign experience does make a big difference.
Questions: a) Which MBA course should I look forward. I am leaning more towards Management Consulting as it is currently linked with my profile of consulting.
Firstly you have not mentioned your career progression. A big difference if you have been able to shown a career trajectory that is steeper than your peers. With 7 years of experience if you are in a software lead or an onsite coordinator role then it will be considered "on par". I am not sure how you linked it with consulting? Do you mean taking business requirements, converting it to high-level tech specs and passing it to the munchkin programmers back home? That is not consulting so you really are not in that field yet.
Secondly management consulting though sounds nice and lofty is not really everyone's cup of tea. With your profile and background it is hard to break through MC since they look for specific spikes in your academics, ECs, or work. So you may want to introspect and check if you want to tone down and perhaps looks at more achievable goals. Just a suggestion. For more reading on MC I suggest you sign up for a premium membership at Vault.com. They have some good insights there.
b) Please suggest which colleges to focus on? Or at least where and how to look for good MBA colleges.
If consulting (not just Management but including IT) is your cup of tea then pretty much most of the top schools should be in your list. I would suggest you look at other factors listed here
This is a pretty tedious process and can consume a few months. So hang in there!
c) I have heard of people saying one should improve its extra-curricular. How can I do that?
I had written about this on PG sometime ago. Reproduced here:
Heck! Let me copy-paste it again:
This seems to be an age-old question "how can I improve my profile". My answer to this is pretty simple. I will, for a change, tell you first what NOT to do. Don't sit around your a$$ doing nothing. Don't come back home, have a shower and go out with your friends to eat dinner at paratha point, come back home watch a movie/play video games and go to sleep. On the weekends don't wake up at 1pm, have Maggi for lunch at 3pm and go to a pub to get drunk on KF beer. If you *don't* do the above - then my friend I am sure you will do enough stuff to improve your profile And please, please don't pursue stuff just to fluff your profile. A) You will hate whatever you do. B) It will stand out like a pimple on a bald head in your application. About what you can do: Essentially there are 3-4 things any b-school will look at. Your academic potential, your team-work/cross-cultural exposure, career progression and leadership skills. Now leaders are typically not restricted to showing it only in their workplace - they will leave a mark in other areas too. So if you are able to show how you have been able to constructively use your time, and channelize your energy into producing something that is sustainable and scalable for the betterment of society. And you need not have any socialistic ideals for doing so - you can be a perfectly capitalist pig ...err in this time of H1N1 Influenza a wrong choice of words. Let me give you an example - say you are interested in entrepreneurship and want to start your own business 5 years down the line. And you want to put that as a reason in your "Why MBA?" essay. Great - but it has a flaw. If you are truly a leader and are genuinely interested in entrepreneurship then you will probably have done a lot more before that. Let me give an example of some things a true leader might do before writing that essay 1. Enroll for a course at NSRCEL IIM Bangalore 2. Attend weekly meetings at Bangalore Entrepreneurs (Bangalore) at Meetup.com 3. Read all books on the topic - 'entrepreneurship successfully launching new ventures' 4. Dabble with your own concept, write a business case, get it reviewed (or rather ravaged) by others, re-think, go back to the drawing board, and finally enter it at The Power of Ideas Get the drift? That is what you need to show - not having done social work or "NGO" stuff is absolutely okay.
Aspiration: Want to another MBA - to assume a global leadership position one day
Dilema: with my given constraints, I can only do one year MBA (from India only) - this leaves me with ISB as the only option. My current compensation is almost is in line with ISB median salary. Should i give a shot at ISB? - will double MBA help me to match my aspirations?
Would appreciate few words of wisdom from you :)
I have 2 things to share with you here:
Firstly the whole rationale of an MBA is that it will give you an opportunity to do something you are passionate about. If you think an MBA will give you a "global leadership role" which you otherwise cannot assume then what is the price you are willing to pay for it? See its a personal question - I personally feel at the end of the day it is going to be about YOU and not where you went to do your MBA. But if you feel/are convinced/do believe there is a greater probability that with an MBA (rather than without) - at 50 you will be in such a role then the 40-50lakh investment should not be that bad.
Secondly there are many intangibles in an MBA degree. So an investment in good education cannot be boiled down to punching some magic numbers on an online ROI calculator. There are so many things which will bear fruition only after many years that it is impossible to speculate the "true" ROI. It is beautifully articulated here in an old BW journal: BW Online August 13, 2003 Lyon Hardgrave: Reflections on the Overall MBA Experience
Kindly consider my profile for a quick evaluation:
You seem to be a smart cookie. The experience though a bit checkered is very exciting. There looks like a lot of stories you can tell. More importantly - rather than looking at the applications from a lens of the past, look at it from the lens of the future. Talk about what you want to do and excite the Ad Com enough to wring an admit
My Questions: 1) My firm is marketing based, and considering my options, which MBA schools/courses will suit me the most? I am mostly thinking entrepreneurship with a blend of marketing courses, but would like help. Am a NEWBIE!
What is that you want to do post-MBA? As I said before don't focus on just where you have been - focus on where you want to be. Also don't be too picky on "specialization" as its a misnomer. MBA is a general management program. I would anyday go for a higher ranking school than a school that specializes/focuses on something. For example:
Harvard >> Kellogg
or
Haas >> Babson
Read my earlier post today to see how you can pick schools.
2) Anything which harms my profile currently and I can improve upon.
Not much but you should be able to substantiate why you are leaving your current position so soon (given your application is for R1 in October - you would be in that position for slightly over a year). Also it will allow you very little time to put in stories which talk about any substantial accomplishment. Not to mention the fact that the recommendation letters would also be a bit "fresh"
I am planning to give GMAT in June or July this year. Please rate my profile.
Can you also plz advise some colleges for my profile and how much GMAT score I should target on account of my bad acads.
ISB and NUS will be a stretch. 2 things you can do here.
1. Target as high a GMAT score as possible - the only way to offset an otherwise lacklustre profile. Make it obscenely huge and wait for the schools to ignore other parts.
2. Articulate the "Why MBA" very well and try to show-case your experience as well as possible. It would be a baaad idea to change jobs now - considering ISB and NUS deadlines are sneaking around the corner.
With a score 740 10th 89.33 12th 82.5 and BITS Pilani 6.56/10 fresher which colleges are favorable for my profile especially in US?
Your GMAT and undergrad are very good. But that is way too little information for me (or anyone) to tell you your prospects. As a fresher you are always going to be an exception in a class where 2-4 years is the minimum. There are exceptions however - so take heart if you plan to apply this year.

May I suggest you google for this information? Everything is out there on the net.
I don't think any of us have an idea about Starford University but I am sure they have a site where they publish the data. That should be a good starting point.
Been researching about MBA for a while now, but the confusion still prevails. My doubts are very elemental and you might have ready answers for them. All of them are arising from various concerns considering the present situation. Would appreciate your replies.
Q1. Whether the time is right for an MBA!!! My Profile is like this: Prof. Edu - Continued Education Program on Project Management (CEPPM) from IIT-Delhi Grad - 76%, BE (Mech), SJCE Mysore (VTU, Belgaum) Class XII - 76% (CBSE) Class X - 84% (CBSE)
Work Ex: ~7 years (Overall) 5.3 yrs Proj Mgt + Design as Manager (Shipbuilding at L&T;) 1.5 yrs in BD (Oil & Gas) as Business Lead - Refineries & Petrochem The 3.5 yrs of Shipbuilding experience is in strategic defense projects of Indian Navy.
Heaps of extra-curricular throughout. Was a district level TT player and chaired the recreation club at office.
Q2. MBA from top 5 B-schools in India or MBA from abroad? My target post MBA is middle to senior level position in corporate strategies or Proj Mgt domain in companies dealing with mechanical products/services or in management consultancy. Also open to IT industry, as a second choice. With this, should a B School within India be targeted or going abroad is worth?
Q3. What colleges can be targeted with a GMAT score of 670-730? Q4. What would be an average spend for a good B-School in India and a similar one abroad? Q5. How can one manage the expenses? Scholarships? How much still would be required to spend after all support? Q6. Considering that I can spend around 20-25L, what are your suggestions? Q7. Considering the repayment of loans, will I need to work abroad for considerable time and only then return back? Q8. At last, any tips on how to go about the GMAT exam. Considering that I start working on it from today?
