Considering my prfle (not so good Acads)...and present CTC....which Indian and International Institutes would be suitable for me....I mean it would be a tough decision for me to leave such a job..So the ROI has to be kept in mind...( Let's assume that I am turned into a MAVEN overnight in cracking the B-School Entrances ;))
Plz do reply puys....This is my first post after a gap of two and a half years on PG....:p
Welcome back of PG! Nice to see people returning to the place where they know they will get the right advice
Firstly don't worry about the gap after 12th - just don't show it. Most US schools will look just at your graduation. However do worry about the 2 years after graduation and before you joined the PSU. Try to show that you did something constructive during this time. Preparing for CAT fulltime is not considered "constructive"
Secondly clear the entrance tests (or score high on GMAT) before worrying about the ROI. I think that is a bigger barrier to break. Also MBA ROI are over a long-term horizon i.e. 10 years and more. So it will be hard for anyone to guesstimate if that is a good/bad decision. Just go with your gutfeel.
I am a Mechanical Engineer from BITS Pilani. My percentages in 10th and 12 th standard are 90% plus. My GPA would be abour 8/10. Extra ciricular activities would be ok-ok. I dont have any work experience for i am in my final year. But i am interning at a BIG-4 Audit company for 6 months. What i want to know is a very basic question: What are the chances of a person with my kind of a profile getting into an MBA abroad, from say, top 10 colleges in the US, assuming that my gmat score and essays turn out to be good. Thanks.
It is hard to compensate for complete lack of experience (unless you are applying to specific programs such as HBS 2+2). So get a few years of experience under your belt, and more importantly try to do things that you love doing rather than focusing only on the MBA profile.
i had once asked about Erasmus Mundus in this forum. I got the details about it but i was asked a question, what my career goal is. Now i am very confused. Basically, i want to pursue my career in the field of "intercultural management", specially "indo-german network", and so i thought Erasmus Mundus would provide me the best platform. But now, because of the PIGS issue, the Euro crisis, i am having second thoughs to continue with that plan.
Could anyone here suggest and guide me, which MBA and from which institue would help me launch my career in intercultural managment. would Masters in International Business be of any help???
Please consider the following:
1. Pick something you are passionate about - smaller issues such as PIGS (??) issue or EURO crises shouldn't have an effect on it. Think long term. How much do you trust German economy? How much do you think this space offers? Would you love doing this for the rest of your life?
2. In over a decade I have been associated with the MBA career path, I have never come across a career option "intercultural management"! Why would you want to do an MBA to do this? I believe you need to have strong German skills (both linguistic as well as cultural). So if you differentiate your Sonnenblumenkernbrot from your Krbiskernbrot - you are all set to go! Why MBA?
ashwintadinada, October is late for taking GMAT, and you are likely to miss out on many R1 deadlines. Utilise all the time you have now to prepare your applications alongside teh GMAT prep., including the essays and recos, rather than waiting for the scores to be out before you start.

- Work profile: Currently leading analytics efforts for a leading rating company as a manager in India
- Extracurricular: good (associated with an NGO for the last 4 years)
- International experience: total 6 months
Post MBA: (i) Strategy Consulting (I see a good fit in transitioning from analytical consulting to strategy consulting) (ii) Industry roles (corporate strategy, risk management, etc.)
I am looking to apply to (i) Richard Ivey (ii) Oxford (iii) Cambridge (iv) Cornell AMBA
Dream schools: I would also love to apply to IMD, INSEAD, and LBS but given the GMAT score am not so sure about the chances!
Can you please evaluate my profile and let know my chances?
Work Ex : 3 Years 3 months as in AUGUST 2011. 3 Months : IT Head with a company 8 Months : Software Engg INFOSYS tech. Past 2+ years : Running my own Company heading as M.D , managing a team of over 17+ people , serviced over 600 International Clients on different projects, generated revenues to the tune of over 100,000$ within First Year of Startup. Setup 5 Big Ventures and established company name with clients and in niche too.
Gave GMAT : Unofficial says 570, don't know what messed up there.
I have applied for MDIS, BRADFORD singapore and i hope to clear it, although its not that big thing but it needs 3 Years of work ex so i applied for this.
Now, considering all, what do you guys think i should do, i am willing to complete my MBA or at least start up this year itself. I have also applied to SPJAIN dubai and singapore intake, it has not been finalised yet. I also applied to lots n lots of schools of UK , did not find any worth out of it, so dropped plans.
Also have go ahead from University of Western Australia Perth. Posted in Great Lakes thread, they say if i get a GMAT of 670 approx, i could fetch a call, but its a far flung shot for me.
Now, i am so so confused about what to do next. Also , i am willing to take up GMAT within the next 30 days, to update my scores to approx 630-650, i know its difficult for me as i am hitting 600 in mocks too. But, i can still give this a shot.
Also, as i can think of my profile is healthy and has good number of work ex years of Entrepreneurial Experience, what other schools should i apply to.
Hi Sameer - can you please comment on how competitive my profile is for my target & dream schools?
My profile: Male / Indian / 30 / 7 years work ex / 700 (QA:45 -71 %, VA:40- 89%) / non-IT background :
Tis' the season of impatient posters (duplicate posts, private messages) :-)
Post MBA: (i) Strategy Consulting (I see a good fit in transitioning from analytical consulting to strategy consulting) (ii) Industry roles (corporate strategy, risk management, etc.)
We have had several folks from the analytics industry go through our Mock Application Process (MAP). Many of them talk about the same post-MBA goals you've listed. The last guy who went through the process, did a faadu job in connecting his career goals with his current status. Most aren't as impactful, as there's little clarity on what they actually want from the whole MBA experience. You've got the goods in place to connect the dots, buddy. So spend some time getting it all in order in your apps.
Dream schools: I would also love to apply to IMD, INSEAD, and LBS but given the GMAT score am not so sure about the chances!
I've spoken to folks (not clients, so I can't take credit for their success) who have got GMAT scores that are way below yours and they've got into IMD, INSEAD etc. So I wouldn't eliminate them from your list.
Dear Sir, Please Help me out. My Profile: GMAT: 730 (QA 50 VA 40) & 4.5 Xth: 57% XIIth: 70% B.COM. 63.25% Experience: 13+ Years 1) Academic Head: T.I.M.E. Amravati ( April 2011 to Now) 2) Director ( Toppers Academy) - 8 years ( It is my own Coaching classes) 3) Sales Incharge: Asian Paints I Ltd - 2 years 4) Sales Officer: Tata-Bp Lubricants-1 Year 5) Sales Representative: 2 years
I am planning to apply all the IIMs and ISB.
My qutries to you are: 1) What should be my ideal career goal? In IIM indore, I told them that I myself want to establish my own brand in MBA entrance like TIME And CL, but it seems they didn't like it. 2) I want to join the corporate world now. What field will suit me considering my past experience till now? 3) What can go against my Profile and how can I rectify it?
Your suggestion are very precious for me. Please do spare some time for me. Thank you very much.
Hi, I am planning to do MBA from a recognized UK or USA university from next year.
MY current profile:: Xth( CBSE) : 92% XII ( CBSE) : 72% English subject ( X and XII marks) : 83 in each. B.com Final year student and hoping to achieve 60%. Chartered accountancy ( CA) : cleared first level CPT first attempt. Co curricular activities : Many activities during my schooling. GMAT: yet to appear, i will appear in November 2011.
My only query is that I have no work experience. EVEN if i get a good score in GMAT, will i be eligible to get admission in some good universities for MBA? my B.com degree is of 3 years. I know that generally 4 years degree is accepted. How should i enhance my chances to get admission next year for MBA in USA or UK? Please guide me..

The best way to increase your chances to get admission in a good MBA school is by getting some work experience. Most b-schools do not have any work ex. requirement but would strongly advise you to have atleast two years - afterall, you are going to a place where its the collecetive learning of the class- though you would benefit a greatdeal from your class mates' experiences, how will they benefit from yours? (unless you have a fantastic extra -curriculars track record, in which case take your chance). And that would head you for a reject.
Sir, I didnt get what u meant from the above mentioned line.. So, are there universities which would accept me without work experience and a good gmat score? Do USA universities allow 3 years bachelor's degree? If yes, can u suggest me some good universities? Both USA and UK. thank you!!

I mean that if you can not show in yoru application that you will contribute to the learning of your class. because of lack of work experience, then you will be heading for a reject. So unless your life has been extraordinary until now, get some work experience. You will also get more out of your MBA by doing that.
Most USA b-schools DO allow 3 years of the Indian graduation degree, with Columbia Business School and Haas Berkeley the only ones who are not gung ho about it. Good universities - well , really depends on what your expectations from the MBA program / your career goals are...you can look up the MBA rankings of Business Week, Financial Times or US NEWs to get an idea of the top universities.
Thank you Namita, I got your point. Actually, getting work experience before going for an MBA is going to be quite a uphill task for me as it is very difficult to get a job with B.com degree in India. My Motive of doing MBA is purely that doing an MBA from a foreign university would enhance my chances of getting a job. I would like to gain some work experience from abroad since just doing MBA from USA or UK and returning to India without foreign experience is of no use.
I am an IT professional with total experience 4 yrs hard core IT experience have worked as(Tester, developer and admin) in two of the Top most IT Services MNC's. I have a 4 months international experience. Apart from job i m also an Android app developer. Have my own app which is being used in more than 10 countries. Have been a active member in college festivals. Played cricket for my company.
I am looking for Tech MBA with a career in Consulting or IT operations. Gave my GMAT last week with a sad score of 610. And i dont have enough time to retake Gmat( even if i do i m nt confident enough to score more).
I am planing to apply SMU COX, William and mary (Mason), Rutgers , Maryland(Robert smith). What are my chances? And i need a scholarship desperately.
And will a reco from my manager in Europe make a difference when comparing it with a normal indian manager's reco.
Plz review my profile. I m quite stressed out thinking about this.
Thanks so much for your reply Sameer. I have started pulling together my apps.. Shall be in touch.
