For improving my understqanding of finance i am taking cfa also. But for later stage do you suggest i go for master's in finance or again MBA from top 5 colleges of US & Europe.
Hi,
I write not to get a profile evaluation, but to clear a few doubts that i have.
My Profile:
10th : 90.83% ICSE 2003 ... One of the best schools in Mumbai.
12th : 84.20% ICSE 2005 ... Same school.
BE (IT) : 65 % Univ of Mumbai 2009 ... one of the better colleges.
Working at Infosys Tech Ltd since Dec'09 as an SE.
Career Goals : to get into Management and Strategy Consulting. (McKinsey and BCG are the dream :lookround:)
Have been trying to get into a top 10 Indian bschool for 2 yrs now...No success yet. Would be taking the CAT again this year.
I am now also considering the GMAT (plan to take it around MAY'12) and apply for Fall'13 courses. the schools i am targetting include Tuck, Kellogg, Cornell, Yale, and ISB(as it is Indian, 1 yr course, easy on the pocket)
My queries are :
1. Is it a realistic plan? Can a person with my profile, and work ex (3.5 by the time i matricuate and in the IT industry...though i'm desperately looking to break into some consulting firm in the tech consulting field) plan to get into the schools i have mentioned.
2. Given my career goals, existing profile, and GMAt score > 700... What more can I do from now till the time I apply, that would really boost my resume and application?
Would really appreciate your views and advice regarding this.
Thanks 😃

I have a query for you guys..
Here is my profile,
Education : B.E (Electrical) - Pune University, 60%
GMAT Score: 730
Work Experience: 5.8 Yrs - Mid Size Indian IT Company - Annual Revenue - $160M
International Experience: 15 Months - US
My Query:
I have been working as a 'Team Leader' in my company since Aug 2010. My day to day responsibilities include resource planning, managing deliveries of enhancements and fixes and project reporting.
However on paper my designation is still 'Sr. Software Engineer' and my designation may / may not upgrade to 'Tech Lead' in the forthcoming appraisal cycle due in a couple of months..
I am wondering, what should i write as my designation in the application forms of my target B-Schools?
Hey Guys,
I am in a kind of mess, though feeling blessed since I have got two admits.
Kindly suggest which one should I opt for.?
I want to do specialization in Marketing.
Syracuse Univ, NY or Moore School of Business,SC.

During my tenure I got connect with in higher positions at work like delivery manager.. They play a role of senior executive to the company. Will a reco from them be good or should it b frm immediate manager.. Ian working with the senior guy frm past 5 years..pls help out..

I'd recommend sticking to the official designations. Coz that's what your CV will say and that's what your recommenders will use. Don't generate a role or a designation based on your perception of what will happen in the future, as there's no guarantee that the 'Tech Lead' upgrade WILL happen in the time horizon that you have in mind (keep Murphy's laws in mind when you are working on your apps).
Designations change from company to company, and Adcoms know that. The CV is only one component in your overall application.
There are many ways in which you can use your essays to highlight the fact that your role is much more than what your designation conveys.
From the amount of experience you have (plus your other data - GMAT etc), there's ample scope for you to leverage other components to create a bigger impact.
Good luck.

Sir ,
Kindly guide me , according to my profile :

- I am yet to do a MBA. What is the RIGHT time to apply. Should I apply when I have 5 ys of work-ex ?
- Do I need a Indian MBA to enhance my profile ?
- What are chances of scholarships ?
- Will they straight away reject my application since I have less then a year exp
Now , I am targeting Schools in UK , States & Europe.
Very cliche to ask the very same question but can't help to be generalized. here it goes..
B.E. Electronics Engg - 59% (yup its a drag) Mumbai Univ
Work ex - 2.4 years working as Analyst for major US clients like Dell mostly in web analytics and reporting for a campaign which I was a part of since inception and now the process has 50 heads. Helped in transitioning the lead generation process and trained almost all resources. After a good 1.5 yrs in that company, I joined a BPO as a MIS analyst. Just after 5 months, I am assigned the project leader for delivering analytic solutions to UK clients and an MBA intern assigned under me to study the overall MIS structure. Helped in automating a number of important client reports and handles the major telephony client in the UK... blah blah..
Extra curriculars - won the music idol of the company i currently work for, I record and compose original music for small time movies and stuff.
Member of the charity group in our company and work with orphanages and schools for special kids
winner of best photography award from my state's tourism dept competition
helping a small start up which employs women from poor families and train them to make stuff toys etc etc
NOW BACK to the POINT - plan to give GMAT in APRIL this year and aiming for Spring schools like IVEY(Canada) and ERAMUS(Netherlands).
~Could you kindly elaborate the pros and cons of post MBA job in consulting in a country like Netherlands where I am assuming the companies would hire Dutch speakers than us?
~what about schools in Spring? I know we don't get internship but any other suggestions or advice? ANy other schools in SPring to target besides these two maybe in Asia, US? (there is no website which provides any info about spring MBA!)
~IIM's only accept GMAT for foreigners or NRI's?? no info on how to submit GMAT in their website for indians!!
Dear Experts,
I am currently working as a Business Analyst with India's second most largest IT company( known for its ethics) and have 28 months of experience as of now.
Acedemic scores are
Class X 81.6 %
Class XII 83 %
BTech 74 % (not so famous State Govt. College)
Age : 26 Years ( 2 years GAP between 12th and Btech)
I tried my luck in the top 10 MBA colleges of India without a success.
The reason may be that they were not satisfied with the explanation given for my academic Gap(Done first year BSc and then realize that BTech has better prospects)
I Want to shift my career from IT consulting.
Now want to pursue a management course in General Management as I think my interest is more into the overall functioning of the company and want to be a part of the administration of any company.
So First of all what will you suggest , a 2 year MBA or a 1 year MBA.
Also, apart from GMAT score ( ISB,Nanyang- considering my Financial background), what all things I should focus in the year to come.
I will be giving GMAT in coming months and then want to work on my profile.

Dhruv,
I assume by top10 colleges in India, you are including those colleges that happen through CAT. I would strongly recommend a ding-analysis of some sort to be sure what went wrong in your previous outings. Your career aspiration sounds very broad and unconvincing. Even before taking your GMAT, make sure you have a better idea of what you want to do. "Admin" is very different than "operations" which is very different than "finance". One can fit all these and more in your description.
So get this clarity, and then start working toward enriching your profile. A 2 year or 1 year MBA is really your choice consideirng the pros/cons. If you'd like to get it done with faster, 1 year is your way; the downside could be a lack of sufficient intership opportunities.
Hope this helps

MBA Crystal Ball
dear sir,
I am an average student, have scored 60% in my graduation. I am planning to apply for MBA of UK and i'v got offer letter from below given universities:
1. UNIVERSITY OF CARDIFF
2. UNIVERSITY OF ABERDEEN
3. UNIVERSITY OF BATH
The prob here with me is that i m confused abt the credentials of the universities. i m even worried abt the rankings and most importantly placements n all coz I've heard somewhere that its very difficult to get a job in India as Indian recruiters do not consider their degree as compared to Indian instutes ....(I have no work experience.)
I'll be very very thankful if anybody can help me with this asap....
regards,

Dear Sir,
I have a question about admission to ISB. I have a work experience of 2 years in a Computer Hardware product company in US (2.5 yrs by Sept this year) and a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from a Top-10 US University degree. Would my MS degree make up for the relatively shorter duration of work experience?
My profile
BTech Computer Engineering from a National Institute of Technology - GPA 8.3/10
Master of Science in Computer Science from US University - GPA 3.35/4
Work Experience of 2 years in US
GMAT 750/6.0 AWA
Do you think this is a competitive profile for applying this year in R1?
thank you very much,

Your profile is awesome. I would estimate your chances of admission at ISB at over 90% admission chance. You just have to nail the essays and the interview.
Please Note: I AM NOT A CONSULTANT.

rishabh3374 SaysYou are a Cambridge Pass out ?
Guilty as charged. sirji
rishabh3374 SaysNow the basic questions are:
Rishabh-ji, you've not provided anything substantial for us to dig our forks and knives into. So I'm providing general responses.
rishabh3374 Says* I am yet to do a MBA. What is the RIGHT time to apply. Should I apply when I have 5 ys of work-ex ? Now , I am targeting Schools in UK , States & Europe.
if you are targetting schools in the US, starting the process when you have 2-3 years work-ex at least is a good idea.
For many good European schools, you can wait till you have 5-6 yrs work-ex.
For Indian schools offering the conventional 2 year program, now would be the perfect time. But I'm guessing you don't have that on your list.
rishabh3374 Says* Do I need a Indian MBA to enhance my profile ?
No, you don't need an Indian MBA if you want to apply to international schools. In fact it may be counter-productive as many schools would want a convincing answer to the 'Why 2nd MBA' question.
rishabh3374 Says* What are chances of scholarships ?
For non-superstar profiles, at the top 10 schools the chances are minimal to none.
If you build a strong profile by the time you apply and supplement it with super-strong essays, then you may get partial scholarship at some of the mid-tier schools.
if you go lower down, there are schools that may also give you a full-ride i.e. 100% scholarship.
You need to take a call - what is more important to you, a very strong brand, a big scholarship or a combination of decent brand + some free money.
rishabh3374 Says* Will they straight away reject my application since I have less then a year exp
Unfortunately, with that much experience it'll be tough for you to convince the top schools that you are as competitive as the others studs from india who have more experience. If you've done something remarkable as a student (sold a tech startup off for a few cool crores etc) then you should highlight those aspects. If not wait till you have built a strong profile and then apply.
