Thanks a lot for your reply. The profile at EVS that has been offered to me is- Research Analyst in Intellectual Property Rights. I talked to their HR head and he said that they allow horizontal switches to portfolios like Business Analyst if one gets bored with his work.I know that just working at EVS will take me nowhere near Wharton,as it will take me two years to be a Group manager at EVS.Initially, I had a 32 LPA job with a company in Germany but due to recession, my offer was cancelled.I didnt care to sit for any company during the campus placements and now I don't have any option other than EVS(So, I am joining it).I have led many International projects like India's first Solar Car Project, India's first Hydrogen Car Project, Google X Prize- to launch a rover to the moon and many more(more details are in the link:Ankur Sharma - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) and have received global media acclaim for that. The company that I am working on in part time is a Solar Consultancy that I founded for my projects.I plan to take my company to the path of rapid growth in 2-3 years but I am aware that I will not make the cut,if I work for this company only. So, I am going to work for both as,EVS is a five day job.
Thank you for your inquiry. Succeeding in gaining admission to Wharton will be based on more than just your years of work experience and academic achievements. Success will depend on the quality of your work experience and the evidence you provide through your essays to highlight your leadership capacity/potential. I am familiar with Evaluserve. Can you share more about your specific role/experiences? Are you involved in extra-curricular activities outside of work? These are the points that will help me address your questions. Your entrepreneurial achievement can be another avenue you can explore to differentiate yourself. I cannot answer your specific question regarding whether Wharton will offer financing by the time you apply, however, they are currently offering a loan for international students that does not require a co-signer. You can read more about that on the Wharton website.

I am a rather late entrant to the MBA appln season, and am sure have missed out on the deadlines of very many important schools. However, Id still like to try my chances for 09. The following is my profile in brief...

First of all, how do you rate my chances at these schools, given the fact that Ive applied this late into the admission cycle? Any feedbacks on individual schools?

As far as the social commitment goes, I have been an active member of Round Table India, for the past 2 years. RTI is about educating the underprivileged children across the country.
Hi, I have questions about my general profile and how should I take up from here for admission to my dream colleges- > BTech from IIT (average acads- CGPA 7/10) > GMAT 680 (QA-50, VA-31) >schooling- ClassX-88% and Class XII- 84% >Won Maths olympiad twice, won science talent search scholarship, NTSE scholar >organised various events in IIT > Work ex of 3 years (1 year in outsourcing (KPO) industry as an analyst and 2 years as a manager in operations consulting team of a leading private Insurance company)- Non IT work experience > Very good in quizzes and debates > schools aiming-Oxford, cambridge and IMD Should I give GMAT again? My score is around the average score of GMAT in these schools and cgpa is bit on the lower side (though I was in top 30% of the my deptt in IIT) Please let me know in case you require any more information from my side Thanks a lot in advance
I am prospective MBA candidate. I would like to have your candid opinion on my academic background.
I graduated in B.E. Production from Pune University, India.
First Year: 55% Second Class Second Year: 58 % Higher Second class Third Year: 60 % First class:grin: Fourth Year: 68% First Class with Distinction
My degree certificate states "Graduated with First class with Distinction" i.e. Based on Final year's marks.
Took Electives like Operation Research and Financial Management in the final year and performed relatively well. If one looks the class, it looks reasonably good with First class and Distinction but in percentage system it looks lackluster performance.
My current job, As an Industrial Engg. My work involves lot of number crunching and analytical work which includes manpower estimation. I am certified applicator for MOST (Maynard operation sequence tech. which is one of the most advanced work measurement techniques in the world. My work involves calculating the work done in minutes by each of the 180 operators on the production line.:
I have also worked in Operation consulting field that shows lot of examples of analytical work. As a consultant, I have written 5 case studies based on my work at different clients, one of them is published on the company website. These are used for internal brainstorming sessions.:
I have been always involved in practical applications of the things learned in my engineering. I have some examples on this front which supports this thing.
In pithy, apart from the first two year's performance, I have really managed myself well personally and professionally. But this lackluster performance is giving me sleepless nights. I am so committed and passionate about the MBA that I have written all the draft essays though I am planning apply in Oct.10.
Questions: 1.How do you evaluate this academic performance in context with Indian percentage performance? I mean upward trend and Distinction would have an edge? Pls suggest.
2.How much GMAT should I target which would clear any doubts about my academics considering I would be applying with 5+ years of experience?
3. Rest of my application is really good with all the qualities including Teamwork, Leadership, community services, Extracurricular, offbeat hobbies, 5 + years of quality exp in operations, good progression, good research of the schools and I can go on but can the Adcom forgive this mistake that I committed almost 6 years back?
Hi, Jeremy.I am planning to apply to the three most important USA B-schools (Harvard, Wharton, and Stanford). I would like to know which are the factors that lead to a successful application. Do they depend on which b-school I apply? Do they depend on my background? Do they depend on my future goals? Or, are there any general guidelines?I am Latin American, have 2-years experience in public sector, and 1.5-yeas experience in top-tier consulting firm (BearingPoing).Best regards,Luis R. Villegas H.Mexico.
Given that you havent started your full-time job, you have an opportunity to shape your experience at EVS. Even if your role is not ideal, you can take the initiative to make an impact in everything you do. For example, instead of just completing your day-to-day research tasks, perhaps you can develop new research ideas or refine/revamp inefficient processes. I recommend that you align yourself with co-workers that you can learn from, seek out a mentor, and find opportunities that will allow you to bring your skills to life. Remember, you dont have to be in a leadership position to actually make a difference at your company. I was not able to review your Wikipedia link (the details were deleted from the site), but it sounds like you are underestimating the value of your entrepreneurial experience. You can use the experiences with your company to differentiate yourself from other applicants. Even if you dont achieve success over the next 2-3 years, the process you are going through may be interesting content to discuss in your applications (i.e. everything related to developing and executing your business strategy).
Best of luck to you over the next few years!
Hi,
Thanks a lot for your reply.
Thanks for your inquiry. Your GMAT of 770 and GPA of 3.92 are both very strong. With 5 years of work experience (6 by the time you apply to school), youll be on the older end of the spectrum for some U.S. business schools (like Harvard or Stanford), but you will have a solid amount of experience for other schools (like Haas or Tuck). You are in the tech industry so given the fact that you are part of an overrepresented group of applicants, you will need to focus on showing leadership in your current position and your extracurricular activities. Have you started any unique initiatives with the Concern India Foundation or the cultural events at your company? These are the factors that will influence whether or not you will be competitive for the schools of your choice.
Hi Jeremy, Monica, I'm looking at the top 15 US/Europe business schools for MBA admissions in 2010. My profile is: Work/education:
Work ex: 5 years in high tech semiconductor industry with some leadership experience GMAT: 770/4.5 Education: Engineering from BITS Pilani with GPA 3.92 (also got a transfer to a discipline of my choice at the end of my first year in engineering based on grades)
Extra Curriculars
- learning french for the past 1 year, now at intermediate level - have actively organized cultural events in my company. - presented papers in international conference within and outside my company - working with Concern India foundation for education of girls In college: - core member of the alumni association, organizing reunions and managing the alumni interactions - acted in some plays through the drama club. - co-editor of my department magazine
Where does my profile stand? Could you please give me some suggestions on which schools I should apply to?
Thanks for your inquiry. Since we specialize in the top 15 MBA programs in the US (and the top European programs), I can't comment specifically on the school's that you have listed). However, based on your 75% performance in undergrad, balanced GMAT score of 730 and management experience in the financial services industry, you should have a good shot at Olin and U of I (and other schools in that tier).
Best of luck with the short amount of time that you have to apply!

Thanks for your inquiry. Congratulations on your success with applying to b-school! We specialize in the top 15 programs in the US and the top programs in Europe, so I can't comment on the schools that you have listed. However, be sure to evaluate the curriculum at each school with a critical eye and determine which school meets your needs both during your MBA (from an academic and social perspective) and post-graduation (in terms of brand recognition and the strength of the alumni base).

Hi Jeremy/Monica, Thank you for your time and insights. I am planning to apply to B-Schools for FY-2010. Am planning to be quite selective and to be quite honest the only school I would like to apply to is HBS. I am not however not very sure if my background is a good fit as far as getting admitted into HBS is concerned. Could you please comment on my background and provide me with your opinion. Could you also recommend any other schools that I should perhaps consider based on my profile? I will turn 29 at the time of matriculation and should have around 6 yrs of work ex. 4 of these 6 Years are in the US in the field of consulting (a US based consulting firm publicly listed). All the consulting is to different State Governments as clients (so heavy focus on US public sector). Career progression so far has been good, have not had a change in job title yet but have received 2 raises and bonus. Work responsibility has expanded. I have had the opportunity to manage the work of a state employee and have him report directly to me during the course of a project, other than that I was also was paired up with a new hire and worked as a mentor to him. The other 2 years of my WE(prior to my Masters) was in India in Marketing/Sales for a FMCG product with a UK based firm.
My academic background is Bachelor in Commerce and the Master's in Accountancy from Indiana University, Kelley School of Business. Acad's other than being in good schools is nothing more to boast about.
I have also recently successfully cleared the CPA exams (Certified Public Accountant) in my first attempt (Thats perhaps the biggest plus in my acads).
I have not yet given the GMAT, but based on my scores in the mock Kaplan tests, I should be around the 750 mark.
Interests include playing Golf and traveling. Dont have any community service experience of any sorts.
How does my profile look in the pool of applicants? My background is in pretty hardcore accounting, however my work is in ERP (oracle Products) implementations and Operational Consulting, though my focus area within this is on Accounting modules.
Again I am not sure how many Indian or International students are admitted who are CPAs. I feel my background is pretty unique in the sense that I am using my accounting background in IT enables Services field (ERP), and possess a prior Masters in Accounting from a Big-10 school. Also dealing with only State/Local governments as clients does make my work-ex a bit more different. However like most I guess I might be over-estimating my profile. I am planning to do an MBA primarily to move into more of a strategic/management consulting role. Not so sure if I should apply to other schools since I make as much as the post-MBA salary of most of the schools anyways, and they do not fascinate me as much as HBS. However please do mention any other schools that you feel I should consider and have a strong likelihood to get into. Would highly appreciate your comments and a response to my lengthy message. Best regards,
Thanks for your inquiry. You are quite accomplished from an academic perspective your 75.4% in undergrad, 6.1 in your Masters, Mensa membership and 760 GMAT all show that youve consistently excelled. The admissions committees will most likely see that you are capable of thriving in an academically challenging environment. Given that you are part of an overrepresented group of Indian/Tech industry applicants, you should strive to show that you are multi-dimensional in order to differentiate yourself from other applicants. I noticed that you earned your Masters degree in Australia. You can potentially leverage your experience in Australia with your work experience in the U.S. to show global awareness.
If you have made a significant impact in your professional role (especially in your role as a Technical Lead), you can use your essays and your recommendations from your two previous supervisors to highlight the strength of your career progression. Your extra-curricular activities with Junior Achievers and your office organizations should help you diversify your story further if you have concrete leadership experiences to discuss. It can also be an advantage for an applicant to show that they have entrepreneurial experience since a small percentage of MBA students have actual experience. If there is enough depth related to your role as a Marketing Consultant with the education start-up, you can highlight your experience with this venture to add a different dimension to your profile. Keep in mind, mbaMission specializes in the top 15 U.S. business schools as well as the top European programs, however, based on the information you included, I think you would be very competitive at the schools listed under reach and safe (as well as other schools in the same tier). Stanford will be a long shot, but UCLA should be reasonable. Best of luck to you with the application process.
Hi, I need some help in identifying some future colleges for my candidature for Fall 2010:

Congratulations on gaining admission to business school. I cant tell you which school to choose because there are too many unknown variables. Ultimately, it comes down to what you are looking for in the business school experience and if money is truly an issue. I recommend that you evaluate both schools to determine which meets your needs from a social and academic perspective. For some people, attending a more expensive school might be ideal since the career opportunities will be better down the line. However, this could be the complete opposite for others. This is a personal decision and youre the best person to make the final decision. Best of luck with your decision making process.
I am so much grateful to yo for giving your guiding views all along the 2009 Entry Process. Your earlier comments helped me decide lot of things in a proper and timely manner. Thanks for all this friend!

Please help with your experince and your detailed reply is very much requested.
Thanks for your inquiry. This is a common question and one that is featured on our blog. Many applicants ask: What type of candidate is (HBS, Stanford, Wharton, etc.) looking for? Truthfully, there is no way to guarantee success. Some of the best candidates dont always gain admission since the schools are looking for diversity academic, professional, and cultural diversity. Instead, I recommend that you focus on your unique story and highlight your professional achievements, leadership within your community, personal accomplishments and personal interests. Sharing your distinct qualities with the admissions committee in a personal and authentic matter will put you in the best position for success.
The admissions process is holistic, so you also need to ensure that you have a solid academic background, strong and balanced GMAT score, compelling recommendations, and extracurricular involvement, among other things. If there are any weaknesses in your profile, you will need to mitigate those risks as well. For example, if you have a below average GMAT score, then you will need to prove your academic capabilities through other means, such as a high GPA from undergrad or the quantitative nature of work projects.
Hi, Jeremy.I am planning to apply to the three most important USA B-schools (Harvard, Wharton, and Stanford). I would like to know which are the factors that lead to a successful application. Thank you for your inquiry. You didnt state your specific question so I am assuming that youre asking if your school choices are reasonable. I think you have several positive aspects of your profile that you can highlight in your applications. Your academic performance is strong, you have a business education (which differentiates you from the Indian/Tech applicant pool) and you have experience in an entrepreneurial/family business environment. With that said, this is only relevant if your leadership experiences related to the turnaround of the family business and your involvement with the Round Table India are strong.
Regarding the GMAT, did you achieve at least an 80th percentile on both the quant and verbal sections of the exam? If so, your score will be relatively safe as long as there arent any major weaknesses in your application. You didn't share information about your current industry or post-MBA goals, which might influence school selection, but based on the information you provided, your choices appear to be reasonable. I did notice that the schools that you have selected have small class sizes. You might consider broadening this list with a school that has a larger class size to increase your odds of gaining admission. Best of luck with the application process!
