Hi blacklist,
I think for QA, first of all you can start with basic books of any of the coaching intis. After that you can go for Arun Sharma.
For VA i will suggest you to start woking on vocab from BARON book, start reading newspaper and magzines. For a structured prep, you can follow the material of any of the coaching intis.
looks likea wrong place for this query!
couple of good books are :--
The Argumentative Indian
The Origin of Species
Hi,
I found this really cool website www.weboword.com - Vocabulary Visually. They have a wonderful service where they provide one picture representing a word in one's mailbox everyday. They also have wonderful puzzles and exercises to help retention and reinforce learning. I have been using it personally and it is really helpful.
Do give it a try. Registration is free.
Cheers,
Anirudh
shekys SaysSuch books don't help at all.The best way to improve your reading speed is to actually try to read fast. To start, you could read newspaper articles. Even in those, start with your favourite section. If your fav section is Sports, read the match previews and columns. Read them as fast as you can. If possible time your reading. Track your progress for one week. Try the same the next week, but focus on more sections of the newspaper. Keep tracking your progress. The next week start reading books written in simple English. Like Chetan Bhagat's books. Track your progress in that. Then start working out RC passages. Track your progress. Improve with every attempt. This exercise will take about 3 months to achieve near-complete perfection.
I agree completely. infact 1 cud go for mystery novels as they are gripping 2 keep da interest and r alo long so 1 can get used to the length. for starters u cud go for some short length novels like goosebumps or children novels like famous five.
If you are in Chennai then you can pay a visit to the Moore market near Chennai central..they have all the books and are well aware of what is good and what is not... not sure about the other cities - sorry...
I am also not sure about this...but there are some book banks like Reach book bank http://www.reachbookbank.com/, SAB Book bank.... You can check if they provide mba prep material too ... we use them for our engineering text book needs....Reach is also very convenient as it delivers books to our college :D!!
Hi All,
I am currently not in India and would like to take CAT'09. Going through this thread one can infer that one needs a combination of a few books and some institute's study material. It would be of great help if somebody can suggest which institute's correspondence study material should I go for and the books I need to supplement that material. I am not sure if I would be able to take MOCK tests but will try my best to come back a month in advance. Please suggest the material primarily on quality.
Thanks in advance!

In my opinion TIME correspondence material is most exhaustive and up to date. Moreover they send you mock cats also to practice at home. Hope it helps....

Arun Sharma is no doubt a great book for CAT aspirants..specially for quants but i would like to mention another name here which i found really helpful..its the pearson guide to QA by Dinesh Khattar...
Sm1 please suggest a good LR/DI book.
@guhan135
My CAT was devastated because of DI percentile. Overall , I scored 94.44 . In DI , 42 %. Shall I start with basics like NCERT 9 , 10 ,11 . Would it help me in QA & DI.
Enlighten me ..,
Adios !!
Hi all,

Trisha or Nishith sinha.
I read on a site that munira lokhandwal(serial 99..percentiler) recommends nishith sinha. If anybody has seen both the books, please guide me.

Hi swapnil, i think RS aggarwal book is not that useful for Quant section of CAT. You can start your prep by referring quant books of any coaching insti. And for more practice you can refer to Arun Sharma.
Furthur to that could you advice me on which particular instis material is good ... as in the basics properly covered along with the variety of questions ??
Thanks
Swapnil
TIME material is pretty good for quants plus the AIMCATS of TIME have good quants questions....
I got a few tips from an IIM-A alumni. He said practice from almost all the coaching classes' materials. In addition to this, if you are weak in maths or DI basics, refer Arun Sharma or 10th class CBSE text book. Get hold of as much material as you can and practice how much is ever is possible. Hope this gives an outline on the fact that the materials are not the key but the way the mind gets conditioned to face the CAT by going through the material is of utmost importance. This holds good for all the other exams as well.
