Certifications for profile building

Thanks a lot for your advice mate..I am actually looking for a B-school in the US (only).

A couple of things...I want to start the entrepreneurial venture only to gain some relevant business experience. My investment wont be much (read as "peanuts) and hence I am not too concerned about what will happen once I join a B-school. Will either push it someone I trust and is capable or shut it down altogether.

Also, I cannot pursue an executive MBA because that demands a lot of experience (average =6 to 7 years) and I need to start my MBA in 2012 by which time I'll have only 3 yrs of experience.

The only thing is, how do you quantify your experience (full-time/part time/No of hrs etc) if you are starting your company?

Thanks in advance yet again..really appreciate it

Trust me, say this in an interview, and bomb it up !!
The key would be, to show that you are clear about your goal and have made up your mind to pursue it whole-heartedly. Do not say that 'I am not concerned about what will happen to the business'.. Think like an interviewer... Would you like such an answer from a candidate ? Not, in any mortal situation. Even if you have an exit-strategy, tell it in a subtle way and leave them impressed. But I am sure you have enough time to make-up the answers ;)
Since you plan an MBA in USA, the E-tag can work positively !! In Indian b-schools, it might not(in most cases.... tried and tested :p)

BTW, all people, I have also posted a query. Care to answer ?

i am an average student and interested in finance.i'll be joining a bshool from august for mba.i want to since i am an average student shall i go for cfa alonwith my mba or not?i mean is this practically managebale?how much time do i need to devote for cfa besides my mba study?

I aspire to give cat 2010. And I am interested in mba marketing. I passed out this year, with a not-so-impressive profile(academic profile, i mean)
10th- 84%
12th- 75%
Grad- 72%
:-(:-(

I have made up my mind to not get into a job as if i want to gain an optimum work-ex, i should work for atleast 2 years. So, I plan to do some relevant course. There is this 1 year- Post Graduate Diploma Course(pgdca) in marketing management. Do you guys think I should go for it? Will it boost my crdibility ?

Being in a job is a better option than sitting at home and devoting time for CAT preparation. It is the quality, not quantity (read no. of months), of experience that matters. If you are taking up that marketing diploma course, why would you then want to go for an MBA and that too in marketing ?

Many students take-up CFA during their MBA. I don't have much idea about preparation time but a friend of mine spent around two hours every day for CFA preparation and he has cleared Levels 1 and 2. Someone who is better equipped with knowledge about CFA would throw better light on this.

Hi...Posting after a long tym in PG...

Cud any1 tell me how dis course frm PRMIA wud be!
Exam - Professional Risk Managers' International Association
I want to go fr dis PRM Associate Certificate rather than PRM, cz PRM wud be a bit tough... & PRM Associate Certificate is an entry level exam fr Risk managers...

Is any1 up fr dis xam !!!
& whtz ur view !!

Thanxz & Regards...:)

I was preparing for CFA level 1 for a month. Now the news of CAT 2010 to be held earlier has shocked me.The dec 5 date is most likely to collide with mba entrance date of some institute.(maybe IIFT or JMET).
What to do now?

(IS anybody else in the same boat?)

He can be a less than average student and might need less than 2 hours per day. He doesn't need to be an academic expert.

IFBI by NIIT is a course designed to get one started in Banking. Moreover, it is a class room oriented course. I would suggest that you opt for Finitiatives certifications/courses, NCFM courses which will enhance your CV, can be taken along with your job etc.

is BEC certificate of any use?

Hi All,

I'm trying to get more information on CAPM Certification, I have around 7 years of experience in an IT company and working at the client site in US on some projects.
I would like to know more about this Certification and if some one has appeared for it?
What is the auditing process all about and how does it work?
Are there chances of getting rejected in Auditing?

Any information will be helpful...

Regards
Puneet

Nice thread...Great work by you guys.A query, small one.

A person who is working as an AM in a Public sector Bank, wants 2 go for an MBA in the near future. If its within 4 years of work ex,it wld be an Indian MBA,otherwise from US/Europe.He is an Engineering graduate with an average profile(78%-82% during his academic career)
What are the courses that can polish his profile?
1.CFA/FRM/CPM.Any other?
2.What are the careers that can be sought after these Certifications?
3.Any other thing/advice.

hi,

got a few queries after going through the thread, please help me out ......

I am a mechnical engg with 3 yrs and 8 months in site construction exp in power plant. now shifted my domain to another project in project management in same company. I have absolutely no certification in last 4 yrs.

-> Given my profile should I go for PMI certification course. Some of them have refrain me saying this certification meant for IT engineers....plz suggest.

-> I plan to do an execu MBA so should I do some partime/ distance/ satellite web based mba 1 yrs/ 6 months course from some college...say...iitb, wellinger,nm, jbims, hughes education......etc to increase my chances to qualify.
I am not able to decide----

1) if i tend to study distance 1 yr in say SCM and then opt for executive mba....what's the use of studing the same thing twice ( 2nd MBA......)
2) Does distance courses add value to ur resume.

-> Can any1 suggest any other courses/ certifications which I may have missed.

Thanks in advance

Swapnil

This looks a very old thread I've raked up in my search. But still I see a bit of activity in this off late. Hope I can get my query answered in here.

I've just joined MBA and thinking of specializing in Operations. I went through the certifications I can take and found out 3 that I could probably take up - CPIM, CSCP and Six Sigma green belt.

Could anyone comment on the following:

1. How good each will be to boost my profile
2. The costs involved and acceptability internationally
3. How tough the exams are
4. Where can I get material to prepare for each.

Just wanted to analyze each on its pros and cons and decide on one. I have done some ground work on few of the points above and just wanted to find out what others think.

Hoping for a quick reply..

Super stuff!

Guys, Finally NSE has launched certification on Equity Research and Merchant Banking. I have been waiting for a long time for this.
