Certifications for profile building

Thank you very much for mentioning the "passion" part of it :)
Very much appreciated.

Just in case you guys are joining it just for the cv then you much rather not do it. because your interviewer will see it in you and infact negate points rather than just add onto it.
I speak of this with knowledge on the matter. Everyone judges you by what you do where you are and not just by where you are.

I will not deny that I joined there for a 3 months certificate but it has been close to 1 year with them , now i work as a full time volunteer just as token money , while getting exposed to the bottom of the pyramid i feel i have developed into a better person related to relations with people etc, realized the concept of optimization with minimum resouces , ofcourse developed a liking , due to societal pressure i will end up in job / studies but i am nurturing my ngo plan. i will always suggest never do it for certificate to anyone , also if anyone does it for certficates will not be there for long.

Hey puys am asking this on behalf of my friend. She is currently an MBA student from BIMM pune, her specialization is finance. Is it advisable for her to do this course called Diploma In Banking & Finance from Indian Institute of Banking & Finance. Is it advisable to have this certification? Due to financial constraints currently she is not able to do courses like CFA, FRM,PRM etc. Any suggestions on some certifications which are not that costly?

Ask her to look into courses offered by bse, nse, ncfm etc.

Hi as i know the DBF will cost around 5000. For the same cost i will suggest you can ask your friend to do some courses from NCFM if she is innterested in cap markets. Also if your friend wants to do the similar course as DBF will suggets banking and finance course of FLIP. cost will be same but i found it more interesting. PM me for details. i have purchased t course

Hey Puys!

I feel like a baby in a strip club here :)..just kidding

Does anybody here earn a living doing competitive intelligence? I am looking for a program that can help one learn CI techniques faster. I work as an analyst and to the best of my understanding, such things are best learnt on the job. I am only looking for something that can catalyze my learning.

Could you please clarify on the "not that good" part ? I mean how do you judge the quality of your profile when you haven't completed college yet ?

About the certifications part, Oracle offers certifications related to database technologies while Sun offers programming related ones.

for getting into colleges like iift, the most important thing required is hard work, because they donot give much weightage to profile and certifications, if you clear the written you will be called for interview/gd,
if you perform well you are in,
focus more on the studies part rather than certifications
and there would be lot of options to learn foreign languages once you get there.

Hi friends,
I am Eklavya. Recently I got selected for Allahabad Bank PO but I havent got the joining letter yet. Does any one of you have any idea when are they going to dispatch the joining letters. Any one who gets the joining letter please inform me...........

Hi ,

I have 1 year full-time experience in the field of Information security working for one of the top 3 investment banks in the world. Although this may sound good, the scope for growth (vertical) to reach a leadership role is very limited. I intend to apply for Fall 2012 such that I have 3 years exp at the time of matriculation.

I am very good at aptitude and verbal ability and have quite a few achievements in this field (I have scored 98.6 percentile in CAT and 99.8 percentile in XAT). I want to try my hand at starting a coaching institute for CAT I want to do this during the weekdays and work for a big coaching institute during the weekends as a part-time faculty to have a safety net w.r.t. income.

I have the following questions :

1. How much does the "entrepreneur" tag add to your profile? Also, is it necessary to work with a team or have somebody working for you in the entrepreneurial venture?

2. How do you show experience if you have your own company ? Does it count as full-time experience?

3. Also, for a coaching institute, I am told that registering it under the partnership/proprietorship category is enough and it need not be called ABC Private limited. Is this right?

4. How much does part-time experience matter in the eyes of the AdCom?

I am clueless about these aspects and it'd be great if you could help me out. Thanks in advance.

I aspire to give cat 2010. And I am interested in mba marketing. I passed out this year, with a not-so-impressive profile(academic profile, i mean)
10th- 84%
12th- 75%
Grad- 72%
:-(:-(

I have made up my mind to not get into a job as if i want to gain an optimum work-ex, i should work for atleast 2 years. So, I plan to do some relevant course. There is this 1 year- Post Graduate Diploma Course(pgdca) in marketing management. Do you guys think I should go for it? Will it boost my crdibility ?

Hi ,

I have the following questions :

1. How much does the "entrepreneur" tag add to your profile? Also, is it necessary to work with a team or have somebody working for you in the entrepreneurial venture?

It does add, if you can justify it. Remember, while selecting students, a b-school looks for Placement Capacity. Be ready for questions like:
If you do mba for 2 years, who will handle your business
Do you think you will be able to start again from scratch after mba?
You are already earning money, why mba?
You are a businessman. You hire mbas. no need to do it yourself.

2. How do you show experience if you have your own company ? Does it count as full-time experience?

No, it usually does not. Especially for startups. They would ask you why dont you go for an executive mba.

3. Also, for a coaching institute, I am told that registering it under the partnership/proprietorship category is enough and it need not be called ABC Private limited. Is this right?

You are right. Making a private limited requires a fixed amount of turnover and many other conditions. Its better you keep it a firm for sometime.

4. How much does part-time experience matter in the eyes of the AdCom?

Not much, i guess. But I am not sure about this one.

Remember, getting a good percentile is not your best bet to show your credibility. If you want to show educational venture in your profile, better justify it with your management skills(and teaching skills). Unless you used your percentiles somewhere, they are void. But if you come out of a b-school, ofcourse you can use your mba tag to pull people.

Entrepreneurship is a very risky bet in an interview. You are giving them a direct signal that you are not interested in placements and then you need to be extra careful to prove them that you would add value to their b-school. Use the E-Tag only if you are very clear of your goal and you have that risk taking capacity(which an entrepreneur has 😉 )

Hi all,I am doing BBA(international business) from lucknow university...i m in 4th sem...ill b appearing for CAT 2010...do i need any certificates for maximizing my chances in slection??if yes,plz tell me which?
