Hello Puys..

I'm Pursuing MBA (2011-13 batch) taking Finance Specialization and going for summer internship in bank from May to July.
Now I want to apply for finance certification courses to gain advanced knowledge Plus (As i'm a B.Com. Graduate so have a fair basic knowledge) to Compete better in my Final placements.

So I Need some valuable suggestion from you on my Queries :-

1. Which Finance Certification course will help & Suitable for me NSE, FLIP or anyother (as I'm a MBA Pursuing student)??

2. Which Module i should to apply which help me in my Finanl palcement. (Depend on my Summer project or my area of interest point of view)??

3. Can i apply in these Module anytime or 1/2 times in a year (BCoz i utilise my Summer Internship time which is 2 to 3 months)??
4. How many Module is sufficient to Make CV strong. (I know its depend on my caliber)??

5. Last but not the least Applying Procedures and study materials??

CFA is the baap of all finance certifications, if you are really interested in finance then think about it. CFA(pursuing)+MBA finance guys will always be distinguished from guys with only MBA Finance. this is my personal experience, when it comes to placements some compnies first shortlist students on the basis of their CV and at this time "pursuing CFA" plays an important part, not only on campus but off campus too.
if you start with CFA(US) today you will be able to complete LEVEL 1 by the end of 3rd semester and this is the time when placements starts.
Or you can go with CFA (ICFAI),India.

deejay gr8 is right about CFA but taking up a course as huge as CFA may not be the right choice if you are looking for some specific kind of career in finance like derivatives or mortgages or fixed income. CFA is best for portfolio mgt as level 3 really focusses on that. NCFM is absolutely of no use with about 100% pass rate. There so many B.com graduates who clear 5 or more during their grad only. Go for CFA if you are not sure about what career path you want to take. Or you can take on specific FLIP certifications which you think would be suitable for you. These certifications are rigorous unlike NCFM which test you on the basis of your mere presence in the exam. And you may get a preference in your placements with CFA or Flip.

Can anyone please details of reliable organizations offering six sigma certification through distance learning? Also, is it possible to prepare and complete the certification within one month?

any reviews about CCAP from CRISIL?

Sorry! Logged into PG after some days!

Am not very sure how much the treasury module per se is going to help you get into treasury roles, banks are choosy in hiring people for treasury.

A CFA would definitely help, but more importantly I think relevant work experience is something which would help you get through.

Couldn't be of much help here :(

Thanks Dhruv
What is the job scene after doing the Treasury module? I have heard that banks are very choosy about hiring for treasury.

Subscribing. :)

CRISIL is a pretty good program.
The deadline is 18th I think. Today, that is.
I have heard great reviews.

Can someone please let me know the cost of APICS CPIM and CSCP certification in India? Also, what are the affordable study materials available for these certifications?

Sorry if i am spamming, but i could not find answer to these questions even after some googling.

CPIM has four modules and can be considered if u dont have any experience. Each module costs u around 12-13k.
On the other hand if u have 2 years of workex then u can write CSCP. Which cost around 46 k.
If u have any more doubts contact me on at or see this site ::THE KnoWerX GROUP OF COMPANIES ::.

Its a bit old post (2 months to be specific) but then I thought I should reply because there is a small correction in this reply given by uniqueinstinct. So for others reading this thread later it becomes useful.

There are 5 modules (and not 4) for a CPIM certification. What they are & brief details about each are available here. Thats the website for APICS (Association for Operations Management) the provider of CPIM credential. So you can browse through for more info. For your ease I am also attaching the brochure available for download from that website.

Now even I'm planning to take up the first module that is BSCM of this certification on the next available date which is 15th September 2012. Last date to register is 27th July 2012. So anyone else who is taking up this test or plan to or interested in? We can probably sync up and share our thoughts/material etc. Or does anyone know where I can get the Exam Content/Syllabus and some study material? I have not registered for it yet. So anyone who has taken the test and can share some info or more gyaan on it?

Btw that KnoWerX website is the most stupid thing I've seen!! Some links do not work, some links don't have anything, and the readability (or look and feel) of the website is horrible!! Anyways I've mailed them asking for more information about some classes/training/sample questions/learning material that they may have. Hopefully they'll reply back!! :lookround: I mean being the only provider of the test here in India they should at least be maintaining a proper/decent website. Or is it that they have the monopoly and are least bothered!

P.S: @uniqueinstinct Posting personal email ID's is against the rules of this forum!

Can you be more clear in your query ? You cant target a certification without having any interest in that field .. my take would be research on the career avenues and then decide the certification based on it .. Read through previous pages of the same thread .. You will get to know various certifications available

good luck

i am looking frwd to cat and i am a bit confident 2 to score a decent % but these 2 idle years willl hamper my chances.so bhai what shud i do?shud i join some tech support or just keep on looking for a technical job??
or any certification which can help me getting a job???

Bro ,

Its not like freshers are not valued . Sometimes your own wish doesnt meet with opportunity available . There is nothing wrong in signing a bond of 2-3 years and work in some company . To be honest , It's better than doing nothing . So settle for some job which gives you exposure to work environment and then prepare for cat . As far as certification goes , spot your interest . You have enough info in this thread to gain ample knowledge about all the certifications . So jus focus on getting job at this point and then do some research about your career interest . If u feel u need to do certifications after your research , then do it

good luck !
thanks govind g for ur suggestion
the thing is when u are a fresher u wait for the right opportunity to grab.but in my case i got 2 3 opportunities but unfortunately couldn't accept it due to bond reasons with assurity of certificates/cash. and the time went on and on and then u realise its been a year since i graduted.
i dont have any references in the IT world which usually ppl have but i am on my own.thought of doing some technical course but we all knw those institutes are all thugs and i dnt want to ask my parents for more money.
so shud i go for
yes i am "moving directionless" but trust me when u dont get a campus placement and ur collg name is not so heard of,then u have to re-adjust ur direction a bit.i belong to a family where my siblings are in IIT and IIM:grin: so u can thing, nothing left to say.
i just want to knw shud i go with full fledge for CAT2012 or 1st look for a job coz in both case my work-ex wont come into play.

No one has references when they start off with their first job. All are on their own. Yeah campus placements mean a big thing in that sense. And I beg to disagree with your logic that as a fresher one waits for the right opportunity. A fresher grabs at anything that comes his way. That's why there are so many IT work-exp people doing MBA! Doing an MBA with work-exp also has its own advantages. You'll be able to relate to what is being taught in class. Again like naga has said above working somewhere for 2-3years with a bond is better than sitting idle. But then credit to your resolve and will power to get the right opportunity or something that interests you. But then unfortunately the logic here is "Beggars cannot be choosers"!!

Btw, never compare yourself with your siblings. You can try to emulate them or compete with them but don't compare. If one does he/she only feels all the more worse. You're what you're, so be that. Ask people who have gaps of 2 yrs after education who are doing MBA. They'll tell you what all difficulties they face.

P.S: No offence meant against you. You just have siblings from IIT/IIM. My own brother is an IIT rank holder. Around 6-7 of my cousins are rank holders in ANY exam they've attempted (even Civil Service!!)

Hi,

Hi.i will be finishing my btech i.t in june.what sort of certification should i get.i will be giving cat 12.certification should be related to mba.please advise.

Hey people, need some advice here ..

A friend of mine is in her final year of graduation. She has excellent academics and comes from economics background.

However, she will dropping an year to prepare for this year's CAT 2012. She is interested in taking up marketing as a specialization. She is not willing to work, but only prepare for CAT.

My query is:

  1. What certification can she take up in the next one year that would help her justify the year drop and is also related to marketing? Something that can be done in 4-6 months

P.S: Any suggestions will be valuable. TIA

What kind of certification? I mean in which area of MBA. Finance, Marketing, Operations, HR, or Systems??? If you're just writing it for the sake of writing it, I wouldn't suggest it. Wait till you join for MBA and then understand what all these areas mean and then take up certification after that.

AFAIK there are no certifications in the area of Marketing. There is no international/national body that gives certifications in Marketing. Like there's APICS for Ops, CFA Institute for Finance, HRCI for HR certifications etc. But nothing I've heard like that for Marketing.

P.S: I would not recommend dropping an year for CAT, even if it is to do some certification. It will be tough justifying in interviews. Being a manager one has to multitask. So if anyone drops for some certification and that too something which doesn't have much significance (certification without any practical experience is considered so) then it will only give a negative.
