CET/CMAT Tip:
For work related problem, work units are the best way to solve any problem...
e.g. - if a man takes 12 days,
woman takes 20 days and
child takes 30 days to complete a piece of work,
how much will a man, woman and child take to solve the work together
A. Takes LCM of 30, 20 and 12 i.e. 60 as the no. of work units
Hence work done by a man in 1 day = 60/12 = 5 units/day
Hence work done by a woman in 1 day = 60/20 = 3 units/day
Hence work done by a child in 1 day = 60/30 = 2 units/day
Hence work done by a man, woman and child in 1 day = 5+3+2 = 10 units/day
Therefore no. of days taken by man, woman and child together = 60/10 = 6 days
[P.S. - This method is related to any work related problem, the same applies to tanks been filled or emptied where the capacity of tank can be related to work done]
CET/CMAT Tip:
Simple interest and compound interest all u need to remember is just the formulas and estimate the end result (DO NOT WASTE TIME IN CALCULATING THE EXACT VALUE)...
IF
P is the principal (the initial amount you borrow or deposit)
r is the annual rate of interest (percentage)
n is the number of years the amount is deposited or borrowed for
THEN
Compound interest
Annually = P × (1 + r) = (annual compounding)
Quarterly = P (1 + r/4)^4 = (quarterly compounding)
Monthly = P (1 + r/12)12 = (monthly compounding)
For 5 years (A) = P × (1 + r)^5
Simple Interest
Annualy = Pnr
CET/CMAT Tip:
The ratios in DI questions are to be estimated and not calculated accurately...This is generally because the answers differ by a huge margin...know the approximate answer of multiplication or division and predict accordingly...even if these problems seem difficult, they are the most easiest, given to it you approximate...
