Do not do anything now if you want to give cfa l1 IN june 2013. Its not that difficult mate. Material provided by laxmi xerox is fine enough. enroll in aug/sep 2012 so that you pay the least. plan your cfa exam 6 MONTHS in advance not 12 MONTHS.

As rihno1234 has already replied to u. i think that solves all the querys. the registrations start in aug/sep for the june exams, with each passing deadline the fee of the exams will increase so if ur sure about appearing for the L1 exams register before the end of first deadline.
on avg. 300-350hrs of studies are required for each level, so if ur from finance background that would be more than enough but if ur new to finance like me i will suggest to put a liitle more than that(could be less also, varies from person to person). starting 6-8 mnths before exams will be good i believe.

yes u can stil apply for the dec 2012 exams, the second deadline is on 22nd august, after that the course fee will increase again.
till 22nd aug the approx fee would around 1,125*53.7=60412.50(INR)(considering current dollar rate), over this fees u will have to pay a currency exchange transaction charge of about 2-3%(varies from bank to bank) so a total of about 62-63K. this fees is for the ebook version if u wish the printed version u will hv to pay extra $40 for that.

Have a bit of knowledge about banking - "Basics of banking" this is the only beginners knowledge i have in terms of finance. So how difficuilt is the path gonna be? will be starting my mba from mid june

Even i am from engg background working with an IT firm. prior knowledge is always an asset but the things are not that difficult that we cant get through it being from engg background. though the avg passing rate for the L1 exams is around 30-35%. i will suggest u to go give a overlook to material once probably that will give u an idea. then u can register for the exams if u think ur comfortable. Unlike engginering courses the focus of the exam is more on application of knowledge rather than reproducing whats written in the books. so hopefully u wont find it that difficult and get started now if ur appearing for the DEC 2012 that will give u some time for a thorough second revision before taking up the practice papers and the mock test paper for which generally everybody reserves the last month before exams.
