According to the CFA Institute, a candidate can take as much time as necessary to complete all three levels of the CFA program.

Is it only me or is everyone finding the FRA part tough? too many formulas and too many terms to remember, no logic seems to be involved, have really lost my confidence eversince i have started with FRA

I believe time is now correct to start study. The earlier we start, the sooner we can start getting confidence on the topics and then we can start with the practice questions which are most essential for the exam.

At this stage we can go to the basics, understand the detail of things and then approach the exam. I am looking for people who are interested in forming a study group in Bangalore. We can probably meet on the weekend or otherwise whenever time permits and discuss certain aspects of the curriculum. Even otherwise, I feel it would be a good idea to have like-minded people with similar goals who can motivate each other, for this type of a exam does require motivation the most.

Another aspect is that "we learn the maximum when we teach others". Probably we can learn a lot by explaining things to each other.

Interested in forming a study group?

I plan to give CFA Level 1 exam in December 2012.
I have the Ebooks PDF Version along with the practice exams Volume 1 and volume 2.
I am ready to email you guys if you need it. I just want someone who had the original set of books from Kaplan Schweser to verify that my material is accurate.

I would suggest that you guys start preparing your own notes while you study in order to remember all the formulas.

In case you are not already doing it ,I would suggest that you look at the official CFA material , they give a lot of background to everything and you can find some logic in each formula

Agree. FRA is more comfortable to people with accounts background.

Is it ok to start with FRA? I read somewhere on the forum that Quant and Eco combination is a good start.

Hi I have PDFs for both of them, but I am not bothered about CFA institutes PDF as I will get the latest ones from them anywys upon registration (although the ones that I have r already the latest ones).
I am more concerned about the authenticity of Schweser CFA ebooks..
If you have original books from Schweser, please let me know, I will email you my Ebooks and would be grateful if you could reply confirming whether or not they are fit for purpose, I mean original and usable for december 2012 level 1.

Isn't ethics the obvious place to begin with? As schweser also begins its video series with Ethics and I think even CFA lists the LOS concerning ethics part as one of the first in list of LOSs.

Also, Schweser now provides free app for Android, iOS and Facebook which gives complete access to Ethics content for all free.

i dont think anyone should start with ethics, its very dry and loads of statements to remember, believe me i started with and started thinking that CFA was absolutely not interesting, the best i think is to start with quants followed by eco and FRA. Ethics should go along with all topics, say 15-20 mins a day and then once again at the end of completing everything, that ways u will remember a lot and wont find things boring.(My suggestion many can have different thoughts as well)

Ohh alrighty... Great idea..
I am following Schweser video tutorials n lecture sequence.
In order to remain consistent I will have to do how they go ahead, I kinda trust them due to their prolonged reputation.
But I like your approach and would have surely put it into effect if I was using only reading materials.

Agree.

Ethics is more of memorizing and it tends to lodge itself in the short-memory areas. So I plan to have a look off and on and then later do it completely, towards near the exam. Quant is the basics of everything later in CFA and that should be a good starting point. Eco or FRA is a good combination with Quant to take care of ennui.
