Hello Puys... need some inputs.. I have just started going thru schweser notes 1 week back.. Thinking to register for L1 for dec 2012.. If any1 experienced.. Cud some1 pls opine if the entire syllabus can be completed in 2 months studyn at 8 hrs /day.. M working as well (from IT bckgrnd)

TIA..

Guys, Please advise me how to study for Economics+Ethics + Maths of L1. I am a qualified CA(1st attempt) and working in an IT giant. I have finished almost 3 scheweser books ; and am in derivatives section of book "Fixed Income Securities".

After this i am gonna start "Ethics, Maths" and then the "economics" book of Schweser.

Please advise me how to efficiently and effectively study for L1 esp the pending segments.

I dunno why, even after being in this stage of completion, i am not feeling that confident. Is it because of the cost involved?

You can answer me via PM.

Thanks.

@[353268:tamannawishes] : Yes, CFA requires a min of 300-450 hours of studying. You will be having 2 months. So, 60*8= 480 HOURS. Plan! Practice! Earn Perfection!

Hi, I am doing L1 @Fintree. Good institute and faculties also. Though I am having Engineering background, could digest the concepts easily. Methodology is excellent . I liked concept of 60min guide and mobile notes. Visit www.fintreeindia.com to know more.

From tommorow i will start from Financial analysis reporting book from tommorow

Your plan is a bit risky( especially if you are from a non-fin background studying by yourself) since it might be a bit difficult putting in 8 hrs consistently over 2 months.

I would advise you to take it up next June

Sushant I would advise you to study a bit of ethics daily instead of going for it at 1 shot.This will definitely help relieve the monotony and you can also remember it better.

Math is not really a problem.Once you get the concepts it should be pretty easy but eco is pretty vast.I would advise you to finish early and have time for revision

Hello guys, my queries are:

1. What are the job prospects after completing cfa level 1 and how much pay can be expected. I m a fresher and graduated in commerce this year.

2. Im still doubtful about giving cfa this dec as i have completed about 2 study seasions in fra and 1 study session in eco (both from schweser)

@Cfadec

Let me share my experience...

While hiring, I do not consider CFA L1 as any weight, unless the candidate has MBA from a good college. CFA L2 and L3 are preferable to some extent but much less than a Tier1 B-school.

This is more accentuated when we are selecting for IB "fronting" role where I do NOT prefer CFA at all. I try to take CFA or CFA candidates only for ER / analytic / compliance / mid-office roles.

Lately in the job advts that we are giving, I am writing "CFA preferred" rather than "CFA required" !

I am not trying to discourage you, just telling you the reality these days. With changing times, the situation is subject to change.

@[396551:sasi_sword] Thanx for confirming and the encouragement 😃 .. I guess i will only study and study in next two months..

@[266221:adri_fred] Thanks fred I wud try 2 b consistent..

@tamannawishes

One more suggestion - since all this CFA study stuff might be new to you, it is not only important that you study consistently, but also that you understand properly, clear your doubts and be able to apply.

Advice that you remain in touch with a few CFA "students" or seniors in your city with whom you can discuss and clear doubts whenever you need to.

I would recommend you to prepare ethics from course books .. rest all is fine ..

There is a group in FB for CFA L1 Dec . Jus search and join if you are interested . I guess people are active in that group .

learn through all the concepts by september , take a schweser mock . Results in that mock will show you the level of prep . Based on that identify the areas which you need to concentrate more in the remaining two months 😃

Good luck with your prep !
