CFA level 2 June 2012

hey guys,
just needed help from u ppl..as i m in a complete mess..hardly managed to complete schweser first reading this week....n there seems to be no tym for any practise exams or any mock test..i have went through a couple of vignettes just to realise that indeed i remember nothing from the syllabus....what shud i do guys....i really want to get through this...

any suggestions will really be appreciated but pls dont suggest to skip the attempt

First of all dont panic U have ample time in your hand 9 days * 8 hours(avg study) = 72 Hours CFA institute says u need 300 hours so u still have 24% time in hand

Start reading the Key Concepts behind each chapter it will remind u of wat u had read & the points u find hard to comprehend look back in he chapter & solve the questions simultaneously.

Try to manage the next 7 days in the foll manner (just an illustration)

Day 1- 24th May- Equity
Day 2- 25th May- FSA
Day 3- 26th May- Fixed Income & Derivatives
Day 4- 27th May- Portfolio Mgt
Day 5- 28th May- Eco, Altenative Investments
Day 6- 29th May- Quant & Corporate Finance
Day 7- 30th May- Revise Formulas & concepts

Now u r left with 31st May, 1st & 2nd June plan to take ur Mock on 1st & keep 2nd for revision.

Mocks are anyways over-rated concentrate on studying u'll handle the exam easily then

Hope it helps!!!
u still have 10 days....and considering if you study 12 hours a day..u get about 120 hours..
dat is a lot..if you manage every hour carefully..
since you have gone through the notes once..you might be having a rough idea about everything..all you need now to do is improve your confidence..and the only way to do so is practise exams..give 50 hours for practise exams and 50 hours for reviewing and learning from exams..use practise exams as a means to improve yourself..and not to look upon how much you have done studying..that would just kill your self confidence...
and in the remaining 20 hours..(june..) go through everything that you have done and dont take on any thing new then..
u might just be able to crack it if you use available time efficiently..cannot tell you the breakup of subjects..on how much time to devote and all that as you know it better than any1 else how much you have done and how much needs to be done..
all the best..give your best..

thanks a lot for d useful post....really helpful.....

thanks a lot for the reply.. but just wanted to ask......is it enuf if i do only the reading part....coz i know taking up any practise exams or mock will just discourage me frm going ahead.........so i m planning to just study the syllabus and give up d exam as it comes without any paper solving stuff....is it a good strategy to go for the L2 exam?? coz ppl mostly say u shud practise more than u study....but i just cant do the same..

Thanks a ton in advance..!!

First thing - You are not the only one in this situation. I am too - and couple of my friends too. You should not think that you are the only one in mess. There is no reason to panic - Just try to revise all the material once. You have to try to solve questions. Just reading the material will not do - It might have worked in L1 but not in L2. If possible take leave from work and try to solve papers.

Dear seniors,
I am a level 1 candidate appearing this june. I have completed my syllabus 3 weeks ago. However after that i have been scribbling through this and that of the syllabus and nothing substancial due to the huge amount of pressure at the office. Now with the remaining few days left what do i do? Do i revise all the chapters well? Or do I go through the question bank of the schwesar material? Please suggest. At my wit's end. Taken leave for the last 5 days.
Thanks and regards.

Guys.. Whats the range of mock scores you all are getting ? Mine is 65 -70

If You have finished the syllabus then i guess doing the mocks will be more beneficial..or i can say thats the only thing you should be doing.. with a very very strong emphasis on Ethics.. get familiar with as many questions as possible.. and if u have to revise.. then stick to your strengths.. forget that you have any weakness 😛

In Texas BA II plus professional often the results are rounded to 2 digits. I always multiply the result by 100 or 1000 to see the entire set of digits there. Is there a faster way to look 3 to 4 decimals in the results

A doubt about Intercorporate investments .........An eoq asks how an organisation's net income would be affected if it has control over/significant influence over another org . The first org has a stake of 50%. The answer says that NI is not affected by the accounting method and it is only the disclosure that is different.

.......I don't understand that...NI should be affected....since using equity method(if significant influence) 50% of other org's NI will be added to the first's. And if consolidated(control assumed), entire NI will be added.

Any one care to clarify?

hey buddy sorry for the late reply,

your query as i understand, the organisation has a 50% stake in another organisation, therefore equity method should be used.
In all the methods(equity, acquisition &Prop.; consol.) the NI remains the same. In equity method what is happening is that you are creating an "equity income from acquired company" row and adding the proportionate value in the income statement. In other formats you are either creating a minority interest or you take the proportionate value which in effect translates into the same net income. you are converting both revenues and expenses proportionally therefore the values of NI match.

guys,

Please any one PM me the secret sauce. TIA..

Thanks. That was long time ago. Now I have moved to bigger problems in life..like..how to value n-days-have-gone-by-fixed-for-floating currency swaps under 3 minutes.

I think I will toss an imaginary coin.

Guys, a quiz for you...What's an M-square statistic?
If you have an obscure question...throw it at me please.

Ok...another one...not so secret...but not in Schweser...what's a pooling factor?

Hi all,

Anyone looking to share a cab for pick and drop on exam day?

Have booked a cab from koramangala to the centre
Pick and drop will cost about 1200 (total). Both ways booking is confirmed.

Good luck for your exams!

Not scaring people...there are really smart people out here...so m-square is in active portfolio management ...in text....also called Modigliani statistic. Read yesterday...forgotten today! Will take a look again.

Pooling factor is related to prepayments, SMM, CPR. Basically...if outstanding mortgage balance is 2000 USD, and pooling factor is given as 90%, the actual outstanding balance is 2000*.9 = 1800 USD. Use that to calculate monthly prepayments. Very important.

Yus.. not panicking but same stage.. as far as completing the course and revising is concerned.. haven't done that after class 2nd 😛 so wont make an exception for CFA level 2 😛
I hope that helps 😃 and trust me there will be many others out there so dont worry 😛 we are the majority (I.e 60% ) 😁

a weird ques..Will we get an air conditioned exam hall??
(a level 1 aspirant)

Hey Good Morning to all the aspirants taking up the exam today.

I wish you ALL THE BEST 😃
