Well I have read enough of points made by different candidates... And I am satisfied that Assistant in CSS may be one of the best posts considering promotion prospects and reputation. .

But I have a different query.....

Many of us, if not all, want to prepare for Civil Services... Considering this in mind, I want you all to suggest the best option for those who wish to prepare further,for UPSC. As it is very clear, in that case focus is not on promotion prospects and reputation, but more on ease of work, free time and to some extent the salary that you get.

Considering that I was told that CAG Auditor offers best opportunity to devote maximum time to studies. I have personally met those who are working as Auditors and said that in the first 2 years they had to do nothing significant. On busiest day,they had to work for 2 hours. They even carried one or two books to the office and studied their as if they were in a library.(Well I was surprised).

Salary is also no more an issue as Auditors are now in Pay Band 2 (9300-34800) with 4200 Grade Pay(to be implemented this year). So an Auditor will draw a salary of 28000 in hand in cities like Delhi.

Honestly speaking, I am now convinced that its one of those jobs which gives best opportunity to prepare for other competitive exams.Some may argue that ITI, Excise are far better. But friends, the work pressure their is higher. Comparing the salary now, we don't find much difference now. Isn't it?

Remember, I am not saying Auditor is the best career option. I believe it suits best for those who have to prepare for UPSC etc. Because then time and peace of mind is most vital.

I have been called for interview but I am opting for CAG auditor at Delhi. I am expecting 385-390 in Tier 1+ 2. But I don't want other stressful jobs in other states as it will be easiest to prepare for UPSC at Delhi. Do you believe that I should skip interview or is it must to appear. Then I will have to ensure that I do not get more than 20-30 marks, so that I may not get a higher pay scale job. Unfortunately, all jobs with GP 4200 and 4600 are higher in my preference list.
If I could not make it to the UPSC, I will go for ITI after 2-3 years because then I will take it as my career option. But not now.Time factor compels me to do so.

@aaarkay Just doubtful if i would be able to get sm gud post as i am a working person and dont get time to prepare for interviews from monday to friday. On weekends also i hv to look for family and household chores.. Not started interview prep yet..

Hello everyone.. I have qualifed for interview posts and opted for only karnataka, tamil nadu and andhra pradesh. I am a software engineer+ married having family obligations and find almost no time to prepare for interviews on weekdays. But i can put some effort on weekends. Please suggest me what/which topics should i read to clear interview...

Bhai baat to aap ekdum sahi keh rahe ho,
IT Job = Salary - "Tension + No time + Frustation + Khoon Choosna"
Cent Govt. Job = Salary + "Time + Peace + Mental Satisfaction + Business Option(apna dhanda)"

Agar ye hissab lagaya jaaye to option 2 is far better that option 1.

The only benefit CSS offers is that it is a delhi based job and cdts from delhi/ncr prefer CSS to other intrvw posts ..... work perssure in CSS is much more than that in excise, ye 3 hrs work kisne bata diya bhai.... sabse zyada work pressure wali jobs mein hai assistant to , MHA, finance, defence mein to halat kharab rehti hai assistants ki ...... ha low profile ministries mein kaam thoda kam hota hai.... and an assistant is a clerk, he does all clerical works that might include dispatch as well..... or assistant ke ministers se kabhi bhi contact nahi ban sakte ..... even ias officers don't interact directly with assistants..... US (6600 gp) tak ko to alag se room nahi milta ministry mein or ek ITO (4800gp) bhi SDM ki tarah baithta hai...

Dont worry bro for cgl 2012 ...u will have a much more better future...increase in grade pay of auditor....so u already get a int post....i hope ur joining willbe very soon .....

@prafullkrdubey yes u r right if u want delhi and prepare for ias u must go for auditor by skipping the interview, auditors have almost no workload..

I have read the discussion about various high profile post like ITI, excise, CSS, etc.

Can Anybody throw some light on Assistant in Intelligence Bureau.

What is Salary, Job Profile, Promotion, etc.

I have seen in last year cgl result that posting location is not disclosed for them.

Where these guys get posting?

Section officers are entitled for a separate chamber. Assistants are provided a table for doing office work. IAS officers interact with assistants and even ministers interact with them. But this interaction may not be intimate one. Assistants are in gp 4600 and they are not peon. Aacording to our pm they are backbone of GoI. They are well respected in secretariat. Respect doesn't mean that the IAS officer will give him a standing ovation every time he enter the office. As far as the respect is concerned a clerk can be respected in his office more that the secretary of the ministry if his conduct is good. Any one who is thinking that css is a job without power will realise only after serving in other departments that who is actually powerful after 15 years of service. Please you all don't try to belittle any job and not try to exaggerate also. Reality is beyond aur imagination. We will come to know about the reality only after serving for some years.

in cgl advertisement 2012, (Page 20, section 12, 2nd para) it has been mentioned that post preference will be exercised after tier1 during tier2/interview time
when i put this to ssc chief attention, he said it was amended through corrigendum.
now i put the link to corrigendum, you can check the corrigendum there is nothing in it regarding post preference. so help to resolve the injustice done by ssc by misleading aspirants.
