Dear friends,

a very important point brought forward on this forum- that of internships.

As you must be knowing, Cygnus is the consulting arm of ICFAI and in my former place of employment, a couple of my colleagues were from Cygnus. Needless to say, the 2 years that they spent there have really done good to their careers now.

One of them is placed as a Senior Analyst at Copal Partners LLC in Gurgaon (www.copalpartners.com) and the other is leaving for the UK (for 1 yr) after being placed with JP Morgan in Mumbai as an Investment Banking Associate.

Mind you all, take this Cygnus thing seriously because they get such a vast array of research and consulting projects that if you take up the internship in the right spirit and learn from it, then it can add to your growth in the future.

Since it is a venture of ICFAI, you should make the most of it and leverage it to your benefit by doing a diverse array of equity research and business research projects during the course of your internship. You guys are damn lucky coz I didnt have such a benefit when I was doing CFA. Make the most of it !

All the best !!

Warm regards,

Tumtum.

Dear cfa_smart,

I think you registered under new CFA program structure as you have recieved e-learning CD rom package. Internship fees is Rs 8000 (To be paid along with basic fees. After that its around Rs 10000). You can do internship in their pune/hyderabad office. As tumtum have already informed us, the best part about cygnus is the quality of their assignments. Just have a look at my previous post. I wrote details about the internship. As its new scheme, i am also gathering more information about it.

How are your studies going? Do well.

Hi Guys
How are you?
well exams are over now.
i have done well and hope to get good marks and will clear the group gamma. what about you?

and now to intership.
what will be there in internship? how it going to help us.
is it for each level?
can i do it after clearing Second Level?

and second what is there in Cd's

and to you tumtum,,
its really really good to know that after doing your Cfa you are still there
helping us and guiding us.

and want little suggestions from you.could you please guide me how to perpair for Second Level, as first level was objective type. and there was all the basic that i have already done at the time of my graduation.

But now its totally diffrent. the caselets and case studies. and the subject that i have never done before. i am really confused from where to start. three months seems a very little time to perpair.
should i opt for coching classes?
should i need extraa materal to read or books are enought.(although its seems difficult to cover books)

You can do internship after clearing Kappa. You need to have a word with university officials for more details. As its new thing, i also have limited information from the website.

ICFAI have adopted 360 degress flexible learning approach very useful to working executives who are short of time. CD have voice lectures where you can experience the real classroom scenario. Also it have mock papers, quiz and question banks. University have also introduced study guides which will help to do a quick revision. You need to pay extra Rs 4000 to get CD roms.

Personally, i have not given second level but for caselets part, do keep an eye on ICFAI magazines namely CFA magazine, Treasury management, projects and profits, portfolio organiser etc. Normally the subscription rate is Rs 625 for 12 issues.

Its not even three months to prepare for Delta !!! Examination schedule for July 2006 have been announced and registration process have started from today. Delta is on July 9 and July 16. So effectively its just 2 months !!

Just one thing , have you recieved material for your delta? If you have recieved, can you tell me when did you recieve?

Thanks tumtum and babu...
well i have received text books and workbooks of SA and IFT
then there is 'Book of Readings' one for SA and one for IFT

Tumtum- What are your views about NCFM. Do you think it will add value to CV along with CFA? I think completing few modules of NCFM will be useful to convince future employer: "Look . How serious i am when it comes to persue financial services career". As you are industry professional, i wanted to take your view also.

I am interested in Derivative, Capital, NSDL-depository operations, Commodities market modules.

Babu, to a great extent it depends on what you want to do.

If you want to get into equity and derivatives trading, then it is mandatory for a trader in India to have the Capital Market Dealers Module and the Derivatives Core Module. Similarly if you wanna sell MFs and Insurance, then you have to clear the AMFI and IRDA modules by statutory stipulations.

I for myself have cleared the Derivatives and Capital Markets module but being in Investment Research, they are of NO USE to me frankly ! But had I been trading, they would have been immensely useful.

Another thing.....even if you compare knowledge-wise, then Derivatives Core Module is literally a BABY, compared to the syllabus that you study in Financial Risk Management Papers 1 & 2 (Group Epsilon) in CFA program.
I mean what would you say when a CFA guy clears the NCFM Derivatives Module exam in 30 minutes without prior preparation and gets 80% flat !!

Bottom line.... for TRADING, NCFM is required and GOOD
for Research, NCFM is toilet tissue paper.

Hope you get the idea.
