I am currently doing my MS finance from ICFAI, Pune. I heard that ICFAI Tripura is offering CFA degree. Is'nt this CFA degree a better option than doing MS finance. Should I shift to getting this CFA. Would a CFA degree carry more weight than an MS finance? Or would both be the same as far as job prospects are concerned. Appreciate any guidance you can give for this.

Angie -
Focus on doing your MS(Finance). When you have enrolled to complete MS(Finance) please do complete it first. DO NOT even give a passing thought if stopping at CFA would (without clearing the rest of the papers for acquirirng MS(Finance)) would be good enough. When you would have come all that far to be recognized as a CFA by CCFA why not clear the rest of the papers as well?
Although the term CFA is well known and strikes an immediate chord (and for all practical purposes immediately opens up job opportunites) , I would not want to compare both. Look at CFA as a professional recognition which you earn incidentally while pursuing an MS(Finance) program from a University.
So the bottomline - Continue with your MS(Finance). Work hard and clear all papers in the shortest possible time. Once you have completed the minimum reqd papers of your MS(Finance) program you shall get the charter nevertheless.

Dear Ketan.
In terms of chatting parlance, to use loud fonts or to write in caps means that you are howling or shouting on the top of your lungs. I am sure you dont do that to convey important information in your real life, do you? Then why in a forum such as this?
Though no doubt I agree that this is important info and must be conveyed to all, a simple statement in normal sized fonts could have done the trick equally well.
Its not about annoying me or anybody- its more about etiquette. Hope you understand what I mean to say.

TumTum, I think you are making an issue of this small thing and I mean a really small thing.
What I did was what I thought was right to do at that time and please do not think that others do not have etiquettes. Etiquettes is a subjective thing and there can't be a single definition for that.
In this case, I had just received the news and I felt to break it this way and I don't think this is a grave mistake.
Whenever I felt the need I had done this before. Now there cannot be a strict rule of when to shout and when not.
I really don't understand why this thing caused you so much trouble.
Finally, look I really do not wan't any further debate on this and after all I really admire and respect you from the bottom of my heart. Had you not doubted my etiquette, I would not even have replied to this post. When you pass any comments or any thing like that, my sincere request to you is to respect feeling of other members and not to hurt their feelings. We do not come here to fight but only for the much coveted CFA Charter. Whenever, I or others post any thing expressing concern about the activities of ICFAI or about CFA, you lash at them and that really is not fair.

For all the folks who are due to appear for the same group, do you think we could set up and follow a dedicated schedule, share stratergies & discuss doubts. I think a focused preperation will go a long way in helping us clear the groups in the first go.

You wrote few weeks back that you want to go in trading as there lies real heaps of money. I agree with your opinion specially when i am confident that indian markets are experiencing historic bull run just like nasdaq 1982-2000 bull run. I want to ask:
1) In trading career, will i be operating a terminal and executing orders on behalf on FII, HNI?
2) Do companies like kotal securities, edelweiss capital, HSBC securities hire CFA ICFAI for entry level trading jobs? Since you are a polished professional with close to 3 years of work experience, you can guide me better regarding job market.
The above career option is a drastic U turn from a KPO career and right now i am swinging between a KPO career or domestic equity career.

There is no dedicated thread for CFA guys from ICFAI, hyderabad.So i thought it will be a great idea to open a specific thread focussed on CFA-ICFAI. We can discuss about exams, motivate each other, discuss about placements , about training classes and even form study groups in different cities. According to ICFAI prospectus there are over 20000 guys studying for CFA ICFAI and this thread will be useful to all of us.
I am Akhil, 23 years old living in delhi. 2 years call centre experience. But not in mood to again pick up a headset. Studying for ICFAI CFA level 1 group alpha. Exams coming up next month. Plans to complete CFA ICFAI by april 2008.
One great thing is that after completing Level 2, You get waivers for CIIA (Certified International Investment Analyst), Switzerland for national exam. You can directly appear for CIIA international examination and this is a great Global degree in investment banking field.

i m appearing in DELTA group this july.......i want some tips .....shud i read the book from 1st line to last line or shud i concentrate on work book only? ppl say that second level is much more tougher than level 1 .
well theoretically anything is possible..... But frankly spkng u need 2 years to complete ( minimum , provided u dont fail in any group). The group from second level is difficult...1st level is very easy
