I need a career guidance from you. Let me know your thoughts on this one when ever you are from work.
You wrote few weeks back that you want to go in trading as there lies real heaps of money. I agree with your opinion specially when i am confident that indian markets are experiencing historic bull run just like nasdaq 1982-2000 bull run. I want to ask:
1) In trading career, will i be operating a terminal and executing orders on behalf on FII, HNI?
2) Do companies like kotal securities, edelweiss capital, HSBC securities hire CFA ICFAI for entry level trading jobs? Since you are a polished professional with close to 3 years of work experience, you can guide me better regarding job market.
The above career option is a drastic U turn from a KPO career and right now i am swinging between a KPO career or domestic equity career.
Thanks for the consistent core support.

Dear Ketan. In terms of chatting parlance, to use loud fonts or to write in caps means that you are howling or shouting on the top of your lungs. I am sure you dont do that to convey important information in your real life, do you? Then why in a forum such as this? Though no doubt I agree that this is important info and must be conveyed to all, a simple statement in normal sized fonts could have done the trick equally well. Its not about annoying me or anybody- its more about etiquette. Hope you understand what I mean to say. Regards.

There is no dedicated thread for CFA guys from ICFAI, hyderabad. So i thought it will be a great idea to open a specific thread focussed on CFA-ICFAI. We can discuss about exams, motivate each other, discuss about placements , about training classes and even form study groups in different cities. According to ICFAI prospectus there are over 20000 guys studying for CFA ICFAI and this thread will be useful to all of us.
I am Akhil, 23 years old living in delhi. 2 years call centre experience. But not in mood to again pick up a headset. Studying for ICFAI CFA level 1 group alpha. Exams coming up next month . Plans to complete CFA ICFAI by april 2008.
One great thing is that after completing Level 2, You get waivers for CIIA (Certified International Investment Analyst), Switzerland for national exam. You can directly appear for CIIA international examination and this is a great Global degree in investment banking field.
Lets join hands to help each other in clearing CFA ICFAI exams.[/quo

Hi Akhil,

Plz help me in this questions 1. what is the best tool to look a stock ,undervalued or overvalued ,is it the p/e ratio , eps , peg or .....................? 2. if suppose beta of a stock is = 1 ,should i buy the stock or sell it?
i have completed group A in alpha. I am planning to do group C and not group B.
Does any one have the past question paper for group C, any tips to clear it faster.
I am a working girl. and the only 2 days i am at home is sat & sun.

Hi,
I am due to appear for my Alpha group in July. I have a few questions in the acccountany paper and i would be highly oblighed if you could help ans them:
How important is the Chapter on Accouting standard and portions of AS and IAS which are scattered all across chapters. What was your approach in learning them?
Do i need to refer to previous years paper over and above the questions in the workbook.
Today i got a mail from saying that if i complete the DELTA group i will be awarded CFA designation......They are saying that the Board of Governors has decided that and for that everybody now has to pay 6k before registering for group DELTA.
Thet are saying that i will be awarded the CFA charter if i clear DELTA. My question is, in this circumstances , if i clear DELTA will i be elligible to apply for CFA jobs in future ( by clearing only upto DELTA).
Companies like DELOITTE are looking for CFA/MBA/CA for valuation job.....If i clear DELTA will i be able to apply for the same ?

Jaswant. Whatever the degree technicalities are, I dont think that any one will be in a position to face interviews after just clearing Delta group since valuation involves a lot of fineries, some of which you will learn only when you actually value companies from different industries. For getting a better idea on valuation, you should read "Financial Statement Analysis and Security Valuation" by Stephen Penman and "Measuring and Managing the Value of Companies" by Tom Copeland. Degrees only won't help in securing a valuation kinda job dude ! My 3 years experience in IBanking says that. Hope this helps. Regards.

TumTum,
ICFAI, Tripura has mentioned on it's website that CFAs (they have earlier clarified that CFA, Tripura and CCFA are same but offered by different bodies) can seek exciting career opportunities in several fields like:
Equity Analysis and Valuation
Debt Analysis and Valuation
Derivative Analysis and Valuation
Portfolio Management
Mutual Funds
Pension Funds
Hedge Funds
Financial Research
Investment Consultancy
Venture Capital
Investment Banking
Insurance Investments
Credit Rating
Investment Advisory Services
Wealth Management Services
Further I also saw the CFA AIMR curriculum outline on their website and found that the topics covered by CFA AIMR and CFA CCFA (i.e. upto Delta) are more or less similar. This is really confusing.

For AS and IAS, just do the questions which are there in the workbook. Questions will be picked from workbook and it will be 1 mark theoritical questions.
There is nothing extra to be done. No need of papers also. Just do your 80-90% of your workbook well and surely you will score 60/60 + with ease in Alpha.
CFAInstitute USA has lost the case against ICFAI University.
It has even been barred from holding its June 3, 2007 exams. Just read the letter sent by CFAInstitute to one of its candidates in India to find out more. 2255708 Dear CFA Candidate: We have received some very disappointing news regarding the status in India of the globally recognized CFA examinations. You may have learned of the recent letter from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) concluding that CFA Institute has not obtained approval to conduct the CFA Program in India and must cease all operations in India. (You can see a copy of the letter on our website at www.cfainstitute.org/aboutus/worldwide/asiapac/pdf/aicte_letter.pdf ) While we maintain that the CFA Program is neither a technical program nor a diploma, and therefore not subject to the AICTE regulations, we will continue to comply with all regulatory decisions. We will do everything in our power to hold the CFA examinations on 3 June in India as scheduled, but we cannot guarantee that the exams will be held. Given this unfortunate situation, we are offering you three options. Please select your preference from the list below and we will contact you with additional information: Cancel your exam enrollment for June 2007. You may defer, or reschedule, for the next exam date or receive a refund of your enrollment fees. Continue your preparation in hopes that we can resolve this issue before 3 June 2007. You would still have the deferral / refund option available, as above. Take the exam on 3 June 2007, but at a location outside India. We will try to accommodate you at the alternate location of your choice. If you were to take the exam outside India, please select which region you might prefer. This is for planning purposes only and will help us gauge initial interest. (You can see the complete list of locations on our website at www.cfainstitute.org/cfaprog/pdf/june_testcenters.pdf.) Sri Lanka Thailand Hong Kong United Arab Emirates Other Please be assured that we take this matter very seriously and will continue to vigorously pursue all options. In the meantime, we will contact you when we have any additional information. Please contact us at if you have any questions. Sincerely, Jeff Diermeier, CFA President and CEO CFA Institute Unsubscribe here. Box 3668, 560 Ray C. Hunt Drive, Charlottesville, VA, 22903 USA Hope now that all the queries are answered. Patience pays and courage always wins. Didn't I tell this to you umpteen times my friends ! Now get relaxed and study with double vigour ! Cheers !

Unfortunately, my dear Tumtum...employer still knows the value of the AIMR CFA...only difference is MAYB we wil lose 1 year...and will have to give exams frm Sri Lanka/Dubai etc...frm next time (in case it doesnt get solved even by then..whch is alow probabaility event)...so juss a few $$$ more...but the CFA charter still has d same value ! neways...congrats !

My view is slightly different.
I will never recommend skipping important topics such as Accounting Standards as these are the topics you will encounter frequently in your life. These are an integral part of Accounting and you know the course deals with a lot of accounting information you need to know this information.
What I strongly feel is that, when we do any kind of study, our objective should not be to merely pass but to grasp maximum knowledge from the study material as studying just for the sake of passing will not enrich your knowledge and knowledge is what will ultimately pay off more than the designation in future.
As far as past question papers are concerned, I would seriously recommend you to go through atleast 5 papers per subject. Mind you, not many questions are repeated and even if they are repeated they are with different figures, hence conceptual knowledge is important.
Hope now that all the queries are answered. Patience pays and courage always wins.
Didn't I tell this to you umpteen times my friends ! Now get relaxed and study with double vigour ! Cheers !
Hey Tumtum bhai,
This is a classic example of bad leadership which brings countries and companies down. Jeff Diermeier egotism leadership led to this event. :satisfie:
My condolences to L 1/L 2/L 3 students who were preparing for june 3 exams. Their careers have been wrecked due to CFA institute Objectivism.
I hope CFA institute gives one page Ad in ET and TOI .
Bye Bye CFA institute, Charlottesville, VA, 22903 USA . It was good to have you in India. Due to privacy issue, we have decided not to celebrate here but there is huge celebration going on in CFA ICFAI INDIA orkut community to pay last respects to sad demise of CFA institute at this young age Unbelievable Hip Hip Hurray ICFAI

Dood. I put up the earlier post just to remove fears from other thread-menbers minds regarding the ICFAI-AIMR tangle.
I am not a sadist that I will be happy for those who are suffering.
In my office, there is an uneasy calm because of this and it is the hot topic of discussions and I sincerely feel bad for those who have burnt midnight oil only to see this unfortunate judgement.
I am sure now some mutually amicable solution will come out of this. Have no misconceptions as I have always maintained that US CFA is a good course.

Do you know one thing- CFA Institute have violated ethics . I repeat my self: Ethics have been violated. CFA institute is a classic example of talk the talk, no walk the talk
Our battle is against institute, not against students. Please accept our condolences for untimely death of CFA Institute in India.
