Equity Markets

Wrong post.

Son, about you, I would just say a quote-
"At the internet, they don't know if you are a dog."

Ok Daddy

The end user of the turmoil were NOT commercial banks. Pension Funds, Municipal Fund houses and Insurance giants were the people who got the heat when trades were settled.

I am sorry, i clubbed all of them together and called them commercial banks and it was wrong according to the financial definition :D

I wanted to say Institutional Investors varying across size and proportion...

I recently came to know that SEBI has allowed trading through mobile phones. Thought I should share this for people who didnt know

Hello Manik, either you are too damn lazy or...
Why do I have to explain you what is there in those links? you should have read yourself.

And even asking the same question second time you did not care to read it.

Guys, just a suggestion..I've gone through some of the older posts..Manik..had some queries...I understand that he was asking very basic questions..and it so seems that he has not read the links shared by someone..or didnt understand or whatever..

..but it will be kind of u if refrain from writing such things (in quote) on public forum...you can send a PM to him instead..it does no good by writing like that here..there are people to whom you will have to explain things in detail only to make them understand..if u r frustrated..better keep quiet..but dont insult them in public...I have not seen any post from Manik after that and am sure he would have had many more queries..

..I believe little bit of humility is needed..along with all IQ you have...

sorry for the deviation..

hey... he could have his answers by googling simply. I did that work for him and posted links. He did not visit the links, again I tried to explain. But even then he didn't try reading them... if tried reading and did not understand it was a different thing altogether.

Dude I have learned things the harder way, working by myself. I'll expect a little from my brothers. I do not understand why should someone take this as insult, even when it comes from someone who spent his time selflessly trying to help him.

But yes I agree in future will try to convey such feelings through PM.

Hey I have small query about stocks i have read some books about stock but could not understand root thing let me be specific can somebody answer following .

Q.1 if there are lets say 100 shares of 10 rs. each of a company in the market.there are 10 persons who own one stock each.

Q.2 If one person want to buy that company's stock bout none of the 10 person want to sell it would he be able to buy?

Q.3 If one person want to sell it but nobody want to buy it would he be able to sell.

Q.4 Please also tell me about change in price of stock using following example as i am not able to get by pure concept.

Q.5 if 5 out of 10 ppl in above example want to sell the stock if it goes to rs. 11.other 5 want to sell the stock if it goes to 12.
All outside traders want to buy the stock only if it goes to rs. 9.
How will price of stock which is now rs 10 change or will it not change.

I am confused .And what is TTQ how it shows the direction of stock where it is going.

I have not got any simple satisfactory answer plzz helppp.I wanna clear ma concepts.I am am new to all dis stuff.
Thanks in advance

Trading is a search problem; buyers search for sellers and sellers search for buyers. Buyers seek sellers willing to sell at low prices, and sellers seek buyers willing to buy at high prices. Traders must also find other traders who are willing to trade the quantities or sizes they desire.(The misnomer- ?trading?)

So you see unless the buyer and seller agree at a common price no trading will take place. Hope this explains 4 and 5.

For 2( and vise versa for 3) the buyer will have to raise his bid until sellers appear. He can try putting a bid to buy at 15Rs or even 30Rs if he is desperate enough to get the stock.

This also gives an idea why prices of penny stocks(which have very little trade-able shares in market) rise astronomically. You must have heard stories of a 2 rs stock going up to 50 rs per share.

TTQ = total traded quantity... it does not shows direction of stock per se.

I have wanted to invest in Mutual funds for a long time.
Can any one tell me out of the following:
Axis MF, HDFC MF or Tata Mutual fund, which would one should I approach.
If the answer cannot be posted here, please can anyone PM me..thanks

please find the answers below.

q1 doesnt seem to be a question. please be clear.

No he cant purchase the share unless someone is willing to sell.
Also he cant sell the share unless someone is willing to buy.

Change of Price happens through bidding.
Lets say there is a good news for a particular company: say it has given excellent quarterly results.

Then there is a scamper for that stock as everyone wants to own it , expecting it would show similliar results in future. In that case say person A and B both want to purchase the stock.

The current market price of the stock is say 100.

a person say C who already has possesion of those shares which he had bought long back wants to sell it , and he wants to sell at 105.

So whoever wants to purchase it can purchase it at that price. lets say all Shares of person C have been sold at 105 that he wanted.

so the CMP now is 105.

and if the demand still remains other people might want to sell the share at 110-120 or whatever price they wish.

when the demand of a company drops say in case of Satyam , no one wanted to hold its stock as they knew the company might come down to nothing

so everyone just sold it. On that day when fraud was declared its price was 180 , but no one wanted to buy and everyone wanted to sell.

So the current holders of the share started offering it at very low prices which came down till 20 bucks.

for q5 answer is the price wont change unless the persons decide to change their mind. they want to sell the share at 11/12 . but there are no buyers. So they have to wait for some good news of the company for the share price to appreciate.

hope it helps,

I am a newbie in F&O; ( Not traded any) , i have a query.
If I am holding one lot of Call Option of Unitech @ 85 and at date of expiry the price is 87.
If i excercise the option , will I have to buy the shares of Unitech at 85 in cash or will I get the amount (after squaring my buy position) ?

In other words,is it a physical settlement or cash settlement?

if you dont sell it , it wont get squared by itself which is in the case when price is above 85.
you will get no amount if you dont square it by yourself.

you dont have to buy the share in cash.

Market already knew that Dabaang is gonna be a superhit !! No wonder Shri Ashtavinayak Cine Vision stock has rallied whopping 40 % in just last one month 😃

those who have missed ashtavanayak , dont be dissapointed , there is a bigger one coming up

Robot by Sun tv. release is on 24th and the share has already gained around 10% in the past 1-2 weeks.

grab the stock at any low possible

You can go through the books of the NCFM certifications given in the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd..

You can get good details about the whole trading process being followed in the Indian Stock Exchanges in those reading materials.

I hope you will already be knowing about http://www.investopedia.com/

Thanks for the quick reply nv_kkd...
Went through the website sent by u on pm.
But if u can suggest any good book on trading/investment that will be gr8.
Looking for some which can tell abt technical analysis of stock, things to observe while picking a stock, etc.
I know that there are 100s of things to know abt a stock but even if I can start by knowing 10 only, it will be of gr8 help...

I would recommend Technical analysis of the stock markets by John Murphy.

Not sure about trading(which relies more on Technical Analysis) but there are quite a few good books on Investing(which relies on Fundamental Analysis).
You can get started with reading more about Warren Buffett on the net and his exploits Indian equivalent would be someone by the name of Rakesh Jhunjunwala

Books for starters-
1. Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham
2. One Up on Wall Street by Peter Lynch

You can try more books if these two books are able to get you hooked onto Investing!

The Intelligent Investor is one of my all time favourite books on Investing.

for technical analysis-Murphy, Pring, steven achelies... these 3 would be comprehensive. But trust me since you are a beginner just track markets for a year atleast and then step into technicals ...
