i want to learn all about forex market ,can any body tell is there any thread related to forex markets
and some websites related to forex markets
where i can learn about them max .

Where are our PG Bulls n Bears? With a spate of IPO's out in the market there is some scope for discussion i guess.

Well, first of all abt Gokuldas Exports. This is an IPO i was waiting for since many months.Just get the feeling that its really gonna do well at the bourses.Just look at the clientele of Gokuldas Exports and u will know y.Junta having some info abt it...plz contribute.

Also...some news which i heard today. The Indian Airlines and Air-India IPO's will be out in late 2005-06 according to Prafful Patel. The Indian Airlines board has agreed in principle to have the IPO.Also Deccan Airways is gonna have one.Thats all for now.

...Cheers,

May be they had fund managers like your firm. Actually AMC clients, especially the HNW ones have their own personal portfolio advisors

I would rather advise caution. Investing is no fun. It is rather a science that takes in lot of horse sense and experience. Else guys like Buffet and Boesky would have been a bunch also-rans

so
so open ur demat a/c
n SEE UR MONEY N HEART BEAT GO UP-N-DOWN:grab:

Just by opeing a demat a/c wont make an investor. One has to study the market, keep eyes and ears open, do some Beta analysis on fav stocks, then go for it. However for keeping your money and heart go up and down investing is the last thing. One can try playing roulette.

TRY IT

Hmm This week a down swing in market left many small investors in the cold.

Here's my tuppence on investing.

If you are smart and cocky enough you can make money. But it takes time and perseverence. First understand the fundas of how the market works, how online trading works, how the settlements are done (online and offline).. Then start tracking the market movements, IPO announcements, company announcements, political currents etc. Then use your own judgement and start making investments offline (try building a portfolio using a speadsheet. See the returns. If you crack it, then go ahead, open a demat a/c and invest small (Start small, if you burn your fingers it would not be damaging).

This is from my experience. I had burned my fingers a lot. But after gaining insight in to market dynamics and the fundas of investing, the situation has stabilised. I am looking for a rosy future through F&Os.;

BTW, if you have oodles of money and want to make more money, first decide whether you want to invest in stocks or in some other area (real estate, bullion etc). Even you want to invest in stocks and still dont want to bother too much on investment fundas, entrust with a professional fund manager.

BTW SEBI conducts some exams-on derivatives etc- which are useful in terms of CV points and gyan investment. I havent taken it, but people say it is good. Give it a try.

ppl, this is one of the most interesting and informative thread on PG. It took a lot of time 4 me to go thru the entire thing, though did not make the effort of reading each and every post. there were a few questions that i had in mind that i wanted 2 sort out.

1. Where do u guys get company information from ??
As far as the financial statements of the company r considered, v do have access to sharekhan, moneycontrol etc. but is there ne site giving information abt the company expansion plans and other information which the fundamental analysts require to value a company. or is this info restricted 2 the brokerage houses only.

2. Any more sites which would help understand about the ratios and the art of valuing a company ?
i have gone thru some of the sites mentioned in this thread like investopedia n all. if ne 1 could help with a few more sites, bcoz bein an engg, it takes some extra reading 2 understand this stuff.

hey killerguy i know i is diff gfor an engineer to understand all this first up.....

but if u persevere it will def pay off.....

and regarding ur questions if u use both bseindia.com and investiopedia together u mite get the answer to the financial ratios and their expansion etc plans because these details come as annoincements by the company on the bse website....

and regardin g the brokerage firms they only have insider contaxcts and some meetings with the top honchos of teh company.....

hey...the exchanges r sometime closed due to 'sun outage'. was curious 2 know wht sun outage is n why is this done ??

google.com.........copy/paste

Incidentally, some of the worst falls in the market have taken place during a sun outage. So what is a sun outage?

According to Time Warner, "Each Spring and Fall, cable companies experience a technical phenomenon called 'sun outages.' For a period of about 2 weeks, the sun causes 'solar interference' to all geostationary satellite signals. As the sun's path across the sky gets lower each day, there are times when it is in a direct line behind a communication satellite that is sending signals to a receiving satellite dish here on earth. When the dish antenna is looking into the sun, the interference from the sun overrides the signals from the satellite. This is when a sun outage occurs."

ppl what do u think abt gokaldas exports IPO. its a good buy to make fast bucks. almost all ipo's are listed above the higher price band. i'm thinking of buying some 60 shares.

hey killerguy,
u can download bse explorer software from http://www.bseindia.com/about/downloads.asp its a very useful software where u can create ur own portfolio and track some stocks online on a day-to-day basis. all the annoncements can be also downloaded using it.
hope it helps. and btw u can also use http://www.nseindia.com/ in NCFM study material to get study material on capital markets and derivatives. decent stuff in pdf format with some examples.

cheers!!

make this thread alive man

what do u think abr OBC n SHOPPER's STOP public offers?

Thank God

someone atleast revived this thread.....

i almost forgot abt this thread...

well reg. the two issues....

1) OBC - was a very good bank and it still is... but with the gtb merger it has inherited close to 1500 crores of bad assets and it may get a few hundred crores of tax relief thanks to the merger but net net i think that this 1500 crore NPA would result in the decline of its SLR(i am not sure if i have used the rite term ) to abt 9.4 which is marginally above the statutory 9% and so its ability to grow at a rate faster than the industry goes down thanks to the BASAL 2 norms....

OOF........ enuf of gyaan on this

2) Shoppers Stop

well i am atleast not interested in this issue as it looks to be very very steeply priced and may not give significant returns on ur listing....i agree there is craze for retail scripts but then i wouldnt pay this much for a script like shoppers stop...(specially after there is a case pending against the bangalore prime property which could become a big revenue provider in the future...eventhough its still quite big)

MY CALL - AVOID BOTH SCRIPTS

P.S. My 2 years of exp may not be good enuf to predict this

My calls..

Avoid OBC. If you are really interested in banking.. can still go for Canara Bank, frm the secondary market.

Shopper Stop - Can be taken depending upon ur portifolio. If u dont have exposure to retail and want to experiement out. Though their proposed HyperCity umbrella is still circumspect.

what do u think abr OBC n SHOPPER's STOP public offers?

as far as OBC is concerned secondary mrkt price is shooting up just like PNB in anticipation of secondary issue....my intuition says u can get this scrip at quite a lower rate....i suggest dont invest in it.....if u have money then go for SBI.....the king itself...
dnt know abt shoppers stop....
keep posting in this thread....its good !!!
happy investing
