Incidentally, some of the worst falls in the market have taken place during a sun outage. So what is a sun outage?

According to Time Warner, "Each Spring and Fall, cable companies experience a technical phenomenon called 'sun outages.' For a period of about 2 weeks, the sun causes 'solar interference' to all geostationary satellite signals. As the sun's path across the sky gets lower each day, there are times when it is in a direct line behind a communication satellite that is sending signals to a receiving satellite dish here on earth. When the dish antenna is looking into the sun, the interference from the sun overrides the signals from the satellite. This is when a sun outage occurs."

Good job koseram! I always assumed a sun outage meant some kind of SUN server outage.

Well.. i would have sold it on listing ( keeping in mind the short term capital gains if any ) had i gone for it in the IPO. Theres far better value available in other IT stocks... so this is not surprising. Nuthing wrong with the co. per se.. ( as per my info till the IPO )...

cheers..

hello mohit,
whats tripel witching day??
last thursday of month??
something to do with futures n options??last date 2 take positions??
i m unaware of that..plz give some gyan..
as far as OBC is concerned secondary mrkt price is shooting up just like PNB in anticipation of secondary issue....my intuition says u can get this scrip at quite a lower rate....i suggest dont invest in it.....if u have money then go for SBI.....the king itself...
dnt know abt shoppers stop....
keep posting in this thread....its good !!!
happy investing

There are some lessons to be learnt from the recent PNB and Allahabad public issues.
PNB is fundamentally and technically a good bank. Though the same cannot be said about Allahabad bank (but a good pick among regional banks).
The Price of PNB during the issue shot up to 500 and now is trading( 375) at a discount to its issue price of 390. Same with that of the Allahabad bank.
There is an unanimous opinion that both these issues were overpriced and manipulated by the underwriting bankers.
If the issue price of OBC is the average of its price for a period of 6 months , then maybe u can go for it .

Any idea where the markets are headed from here.

PS : after the correction took place , at the current levels there are many good stocks available in the secondary market , why lock up money in IPO , especially when there is concern over the quality of the issue.

see, bse sensex is made of 30 shares and nse nifty is made of 50 shares

now these shares reflect over all market.......there is criteria like market cap, volume traded etc.......which if a share meets is upgraded into sensex and the share in sensex which is not doing that well is downgraded........earlier there was fixed % that shares affects the sensex butu now its free float....sensex is just an index which gauge movement of these 30 shares and reflect a picture...........of market

i guess thats enough........that i can tell
more queries feel free to post....

I think , I will add on that , sensex is based on the free float of a company , while nifty is based on the market cap .
In the sensex , based on the free float a certain % weightage is allocated to a company. The change in traded prices is multiplied by the weightage. The net sum of all the Change multiplied by weightage gives the change in sensex value.
As pointed out , sensex consists of 30 companies who have the maximum free float among all the companies in the market.

ya....ntpc n tcs included n bpcl n zee telefilms excluded..

this means shares of ntpc n tcs will b in more limelight...atleast some fractions percentage....

the effective date for the same inclusion in index is june 6 2005...

market cap of TCS rs 50000 cr. weightage on sensex 2 %
market cap of NTPC rs 75000 cr. weoghtage on sensex ? dont know

may be this is a good trigger for both of these shares...

In my personal opinion, so far shopper stop (big bazaar) has had very little competition.
With the opening up of the retail sector to FDI (only 49% ), it paves the way for investments from foreign firms like K- mart, wall mart and others. Will Shopper stop be able to match up to their scales, increase penetration into smaller metros and improve its supply chain?
The future businesses environment looks fraught with lots of risk for stoppers stop.
Any contrary views on this?
