wat do u actually mean when u say.. contracts?! as in Arvind mills as 2350 contracts?! wats dis?! n hw come 2350 contracts * 1000 contracts at the end of days squareoff = 2350000 shares on open interest?!
valid question...
well in futures and options u cannot buy one or two shares and all... u will have to buy in terms of contracts which have a predetermined size... so that is how the contracts size is mentioned....
and theer mite be asituation when there will be a certain number of fresh contracts may be added without getting squared off.... so it adds to the open interest...
Thanks rahul , Does that mean that when the open interest increases , more no. of ppl are intersted in buying the stock. Can open interest be below or above the market price. How do u find out abt that.
suriya i knew this question was coming....
well... u can never find out the price of the open interest and also the direction... because there may be a lot of short selling in the futures segment and so with an increase in open interest it does not necc mean that the positions are buit on the long side...
Rahul
P.S. pls correct me guys if i am wrong..... and keep the questiona and the thread alive
The thursday of the last week of every moth is the contract settlement day. From the anchors on the CNBC it seems it is a much awaited event with loads of consequence for the future direction of the markets. Could u plz through some light on this . also , what does it mean when they say there has been a smooth roll over of the positions.
heard that ndtv ipo would be out ir is laready out could anybody thorw light on the dates.... and one more thing i hope we can discuss the debt market here...
how many of you guys at pg are in favour of increasing the limit of foriegn institutional investors (FII) from the currernt limit of $2.25 billion which could be regarded as the cycle to growth for indian economy specailly when we are in a position to pay back the interst to these fii because of the foreign exchange reserve in the excess of $142 billion dollars..

well suriya....
looks like u are the only active person on this thread
others all are sleeping (mostly )
and coming to the question.... well... the last thursday of the month is the settlement day of the F&O; market... it holds significance because all the existing positions of the market in that segment have to be either rolled over or squared off. rolled over means transferring the position to the next month
and squaring means stopping the rollover and ending ur position
And i dont think it has too much significance materially on the long term future of the market as this rollovers are a short term phenomenon and is charcterised by very huge volatility in the markets....
the traders ahve afield day though on this day
And CNBC anchors portray it as bigger than life because its their job to sensationalise things ..... so dont take everything they say at face value...
There is not much of action in the markets in a long term perspective , the sensex is rangebound between 6200- 6600. Pretty boring for long term invester like me. Its altogether a different ball game for the short sellers and margin players with so much of intra day movements every day.:)
All amature investors out there , come on guys share ur exploits
The allotment for shoppers stop IPO is finally over and i have been alloted 25 shares ...
What do the junta think wud be the possible listing price ...will there be any listing gains ?
Pore in with ur comments
hi gaurav...gud that u have been alloted shares..i missed out the shopper's stop IPO... i thinks the listing price would be >300 & but as usually happens,if it lists at a huge premium, many small investors and funds guys exit from the stock and the share price go down due 2 heavy selling..
but,its for sure...u will get gud listing gains...
happy investing!!!!!!!
PS:Pantaloon has zoomed to 1150(all time high) and Trent also to 650 levels..

Akhil and Gaurav...
i think u both are rite .... that shoppers stop should have better than a decent listing...
but i think if i had invested in that IPO i would get out of it at listing and try and buy it at 15 % discount to the listing price... as i expect the markets to turn weak from 6600 levels...and once that happens you will get better levels for buying and so.... i have actually offloaded my portfolio and downsized it quite a lot...
Asi think the economic factors and technical positions are not looking gr8....
If there are any analyst here... please pour in your views on the technicals...
else our community is always there na;)... to give their opinion.. which i think is worth its weight in gold :)

What does the junta think regarding beeyu overseas IPO ..is it worth investing ?
i think ganesh forgings is a better option than beeyu overseas.. also recently opened mangalam drugs would be a gud buy in 30-31 levels.. n smaller banks like dena, uco, etc are gud if u seekin for a long term at current levels

Shoppers stop ipo was such a hit. I had a quite a lot of reservations about thye issue , but then i suppose its valuations were good enough. I am still sceptical about the long term prospects of the company.
Looking forward to Hutch IPO , hope they don't overprice the issue. Any new ones in the pipeline?
