i think so yes... However, u need to cover the positions (buy the stock that's been short) on the same day.
What you suggest is allowed by the margin plus trading feature.....is it same as short selling?.......Because margin plus works the other way as well.....you buy the stock and have to cover the position by early afternoon, else the trade is booked.

Short Selling a stock is selling the stock anticipating that it will fall and then squaring up the trade . As the trade has to be settled within the day ---- one needs to buy the stock back (in the event he has sold the stock without buying it)... Margin Trading /Margin Plus Trading are the names given by ICICI Direct to the leverage trading. Suppose one has 10000/- and want to play with Infosys(2000) anticipating that it will move up withing the day. Now one's limited means will enable one to take position on 5 stocks. But through leverage he can take buy postion upto 10-15 times his contribution. The logic being that at the end of the day when the settlement is done one can book his profit or loss on his contribution amount. So through Margin Plus you can take buy as well sell position in leverage trading. Short Selling means selling a stock first and then buying it later ( anticipating that the price will come down). Presently Insitutional investors and mutual funds are not allowed to short sell a stock while small investors can. Short selling prevent stocks to move up to dizzying levels and sellers come in at higher levels. Presently BSE classify stocks as A,B1,B2,T,TS,Z. One cannot shortsell on T(confirm),TS(maybe),Z(maybe) category stocks. i.e. one can sell only when one has the stocks in the DEMAT account.

Please I really need help in this. I dont know from where to collect the data from with paying as its very expensive to get it from the database sites...... And whats the difference between Nifty and non Nifty , sensex and Non sensex etc ... Thank you

Steps:: 1) Log in and go to the Equity Section. 2)For Shortselling click the 2nd Row of 1st column. 3) Put the share code and then change the status to "MARGIN" instead of "CASH".(There are 3 options:: CASH,SPOT,MARGIN). Please note that ICICI do not allow all shares to be shorted. If you want to apply Stop Loss then add to the price. One thing if you have a particular share in your portfolio and then you are margin trading (by buying first and then selling) then your portfolio shares will be sold first. For Example. Suppose I have 100 RELPET(reliance petroleum) shares @220 in my portfolio . I then go for margin trading by buying 100 RELPET at 260 and then selling 100 at 265 then the RELPET shares that I bought at 220 will be sold and the shares bought 260 will be taken as delivery. So your realized profit will increase and you avreage buying price will go up. I am telling us this because there once you sell your portfolio shares you will cough up roughly 0.97 % of your sold stock value. While in Margin Trading this will be 0.05% + taxes (roughly 0.07%)..

You can get the dividend record from National Stock Exchange of India Ltd. for the companies listed in NSE. You can check the site Bombay Stock Exchange - BSE site for SENSEX, stock quotes and market trend for the shares liseted only at BSE( Ambalal Sarabhai ,Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics etc). While Nifty in the index of NSE and Sensex of BSE. There is no index by the name of "non Nifty" and "non Sensex". In that sense the simple difference between Nifty and non Nifty stocks are that while the former are included in the NSE index the latter are not.
my take is that religare will probably reach to 300-350 levels on listing, but one really has to be lucky to get some shares alloted in the issue as the issue is relatively small and got oversubscribed enormously.
I am guessing the stock will be alloted around 16-17th nov and will list around 24-25th nov.

it's bn issued at a PE of 13 times whereas peers are trading at multiples of 26 and higher.. so the fair value as per relative valuation shd lie arnd 370 - 400.
however, given the euphoria seen on subscription, wont be shocking if it touches 500+ levels on listing :wow:
Got 35 shares of Religare....what should one do on listing....let it stabilize or sell off and get out.....I know that it depends on the listing price which I expect to be around 550.......still looking for an opinion.

Looking at the grey market prices, a 530-550 listing seems on the cards.. however, my gut feeling says tht it may test 600+ levels on listing.. partial profits can be booked around 600-610..

Considering the lower PE levels(in comparision to its competitors like Indiabulls,IndiaInfoline,Motilal) of Religare, Yes, It may list over 600 also.
Short term investor and listing gains investor can book profits in it. But I guess long term investor can remain invested in it.
(One can see the run up in IndiaInfoline,Indiabulls)
