Hey guys, This is my first post to this thread.
Was going thru the posts and found some really interesting ones....especially the ones on how to do analysis.
Lot of the posts were going inline with reference to charts & graphs onvarious sites/sources...I have my own theory about them..."Did the charts come first or the price?". Hence I believe that chart should not be considered the lifeline of the market movement... It may be a "GUIDELINE".
Regarding charts....it is often argued that they indicate the human tedency and hence
indicate the things to come....but when the market went from 16k to 20k...none of the charts predicted it...and they just name this movement as going into "Uncharted territory".
More importantly I would stress ppl to search for stories/Concept in a particular scrip. Whether its the Carbon credit story (as in Cairn India, JSW...) or the new M&A; story in the pipeline (like that happened in Havells...) etc....So guys...watch out for the stroy...innovation...by a company....it will be this attitude which will take your scrip into uncharted territory !

Pipes is an underplayed sector. Cos like PSL and Welspun Gujrat. The stock was and is a multibagger but like they say, lacked momentum till Welspun started showing the 6-10% moves the way Punj LLyod did(another under played stock)
Also was going thru the bulk deal reports for 3 dec. Lehman and Citi have picked up huge stakes in IDFC at 204 levels. The last time the Lehman's of the world picked up stakes in a certain stock was Indo Asian Fusegear and since then the stock been on a tear.
I've attached some reports on the pipes sector and Citi's report on Punj LLyod.
Will post later on Lehman Brothers's views on PSU banks.

The price at which you can "sell" your application of Rs 1 lakh in an off-market transaction (i.e. via the grey mkt route) even before the allotment/listing

i dont think so . as Brigade is overpriced and they are operating only in bangalore at present . how ever they have a very good brand name in Bangalore . I feel at this price , we can get better value in the secondary market. i am expecting only 10 to 15 percent gain on the listing day.
same think happened with puruvankara developers .

Check out Mangalore Chemical And Refineries.... CMP 43....Tgt 72 - 80
yes....there is a land bank story in it....and the board may take descision to redevelope it. (approx 4000 acre...not sure of the exact value). Also the company owned by Vijay Mallya. I believe these types of stocks are better to opt for as compared to IPOs.... Invest, sit back and chillax.

yaar Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers , is mainly agri dependent , and its 52 week high is 52rs. what target are u expecting from this , by what time.Why i prefer IPO is beacause , i have very less time to follow market and in some good ipos its defenite that there would be some listing gains , if u choose the correct ipo. else arleast ur money would be locked for a month and u cant do anything , if money is there in ur hands , its very tempting to trade

i ve heard the word FUNDAMENTALS thye most no. of times since i began following stock markets....if someone could help me out wit tis....wat exactly r fundamentals of a company.....or wat r the factors one should look for while loking for fundamentals ????
??:
@mohit bhai...
I don't have a very good understanding, but I would like to share some of my views. Puys pls correct me if I am wrong..
On the repo rates, banks generally get deposits and most likely the credit that the banks lend are less than the deposit, this may be a crude formula but then it seems to be true,
Deposit = CRR + credit
now CRR is usually some percentage of deposits that the bank must maintain.
But for banks credit is the only source of income(interest from loans).
So in order to increase credit, they will have to increase the deposit, but when the deposit is low, then they sought to RBI, here the RBI lends to the bank some amount with certain interest this is called repo rate(Never understood this until read Mohit's post
). Definitely this repo rate will be more than the FD interest rate that is given to the customers.
So banks will sort to this as the last resort.
So hike in repo rates or CRR means one thing, the amount that the bank can lend is reduced...
So the credit becomes dearly, so the bank increases the interest rates and this inturn reduces some demand, this reduces the liquidity in the market and thus curbs inflation to an extent... Inflation may be curbed by lot of other means also, this is one that the RBI has been following of late...
In US, the economy was badly hit recently by the sub-prime crisis, so the liquidity had eroded the market, so may be the reason to decrease the Fed rates may be to encourage more liquidity in the market.
But then this may decrease the dollar value further, but then it may be a decision taken with a long term perspective. i.e. the Fed system hopes that the more liquidity will may be strengthen the economy as it was.
But as of now this seems to be a desperate measure to me.
It would be great if someone can give the exact reasons. What I said above regarding the US Fed may be entirely wrong.
ideacrash Sayshi , i have seen u in most of the CAT related threads , so how much time do u give to the Market in ur busy schedule .
Good to have work and pleasure overlapping.. :)
I work for the company u see in my avatar pic.. so tracking mkts, stocks and IPOs is part of my job-related responsibilities..

The fundamentals of a company are its PE multiple, Earning per share of the company, its cash reserve,BV , the promoter shareholding and the strategic share holding. By comparing a company among its peers you can determine whether the share is cheap or not.
For example take the Refinery space........
u have Chennai Petroleum, MRPL, Bongaigon refinery........ among them you will find that except Chen-Pet(it has a PE of 7/
