What languages(including Indian Languages) can you read, write or speak? Give particulars and state the examination(s) passed,if any,for each.

What has to be mentioned in examination passed?

Congratutlations to everyone who has qualified. The first barrier is cleared. The next one is pretty important, and its not the one where people want to falter after coming so close to the final list.

Believe me, when i say, its an amazing feeling seeing your name in the final list, even if its in the bottom of it.

But, to get your name there, this hurdle of personality test has to be crossed. Two biggest thing everyone should know about the interviews:

1. This is a test which is unequal for everyone. Everyone gets different question, so there is no way to predict it (thats what madeeasy says)

2. This is not a technical test, but a personality test

But, while madeeasy, which is working in the field for so long says, that the interview is unpredictable. I read all the interviews of wordpress, myiesjourney, talked to many people last year after interviews and all those who appeared last yr would also draw the inference that the interview is based on our answers and the beginning of it depends on the DAF.

DAF is the soul of your interview, the entire copy of which is available to the Chairperson of your interview. only the summary of DAF is with the three technical experts. If you write a word "Nagpur" in your DAF, be it in address, college location or job location. you should know everything about it. You should know the issues of the place. If you write your name, you should know the meaning of it, famous persons with the same name. And so on with every word you write in your DAF. If you have studied in a college which is not in elite list, you don't need to worry about it, UPSC chooses people based on their personality and not academic backgroung. But if that lack of good academic affects your personality, its a worrisome condition and you need to work on it.

There are a few fields in DAF from which chairperson begins, most important of which is HOBBY. Hobbies work like a judgement call for chairperson, if the candidate fails to answer question related to hobby, his/her chances of getting selected diminishes greatly. Hobbies should not be something of risk if you have just written it for the test and shine on your DAF. (A person i know wrote 4 hobbies, one of which was yoga and he didn't know about yogaasans when asked by chairperson, another person wrote watching shows, the chairperson asked about his fav, ans was GoT. CP asked names of more shows which the guy has seen. Among the list was Homeland. Ironically, the CP has watched every episode till date, and candidate has watched only 1 season in college.)

Funny it may seems, but the chamber has very peculiar effect on your thinking and if you lose nerve even for a second, the result is the undesirable. More about it when we talk about intricacies of interview.

There is another field in DAF. Which asks for sorting your choice of services, fill it carefully and cram up the ans of why you put something on top and at bottom. so, this is enough idea of importance of DAF. Put up queries, if any.

What are the documents to be uploaded??

Hi guys, congrates to everyone. Anyone filled obc performa. I have two doubts in it- 1 . What info is to write in details of wealth held by parents, 2. Annual income of last three years , do we need to attach income tax return of all three years

There is also this video. Don't know how useful that is

previous post was about importance of DAF. This is the first post that will give you a summary of stuff to prepare.

The interview is very cordial, and the chairperson, who always talks to you first tries to make you comfortable enough. Which means, he talks about stuff that you know. Or the things that he expects you to know, since you have mentioned these in your DAF. This thus emphasises the value of what you mention in DAF.

I will give you a few starting points, on basis of which you can prepare for PERSONALITY TEST.

1. YOUR NAME : this has happened in a few cases. generally, when the name of candidate is sort of unique or matches some famous personality.

A guy had name Parvez. He was asked whether he knows about Gen. Parvez Mushharraf.

In case of unique names the candidate can be asked the meaning of the name.

They normally dont talk about sir name, but if its Tendulkar, i hope you know understand the sort of ques that can be asked.

2. Your village/City/College name : Happens when the village/city is famous (or just casual talks about something chairman saw on DAF), or the college has name of some famous personality.

if college has name : visvesvaraya nit, nagpur. you should know about what was contribution of visvervaraya

a guy from jaipur was asked why the rulers of rajputana used "SAWAI" as perfix to name (related to history/ culture).

So, FOR THE PLACES WHICH YOU MENTION IN ANY WAY IN DAF, YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ITS CULTURE.

If you belong to a place that has political issues, prepare them well (eg. if you are from north east, you should know about seccessionist movements active there).

3. date of birth : if its value is of national/international importance. like people born on 26 july, should know about Kargil Vijay Diwas.

further in next post.

For freshers : the upsc will not even allow you to take pen inside the interview chamber, so if you have achieved something but you dnt have its certificate, you can mention it in DAF. DONT LIE IN BULK, they take personality test throughout year, they are experienced enough to know if you could have achieved things in bulk or not.

Do you possess the prescribed Educational Qualification (Vide rule-6 of the rules of the examination). Please upload a scanned copy of the Certificate if answer is "YES "
