Hi, I am planning to do an MBA either India or abroad. I have close to 6 years experience in financial analysis, corporate banking, client management. I have already applied to the IIM A PGPX program. I want to apply to 2-3 more Indian MBAs which accept GMAT scores.

Also what are the job opportunities available after completing E-MBA vs the regular 2 year MBAs. I am getting conflicting views on this.

Hi Sidharth,

Are you interested in doing a one year MBA program or an executive MBA (which is EMBA)?

There is a difference between the two- a year program is an intensive program- most of them in India are residential programs - you stay on campus for a year and forego your salary for this period.

An EMBA is generally longer than a one year course - about 20 months and it is for people who continue to work while studying. So they would attend classes once every few weeks for a block week. If you do an eMBA, you would be required to travel to the city of the program for every on-campus module.

Regarding the eMBA and 2 year MBA - one big difference is that both cater to people with different career needs. Mostly eMBAs are looking at enhancing their skill set and at moving a few notches higher in their existing companies. They may also be sponsored by their employers. The two year MBAs is suitable for those looking for a career switch, which could be for function, industry or both. A two year intensive program and the summer internship gives them the time and resources to make this happen.

With your work experience, you are just as suited for a regular MBA. Do you have any particular reasons for thinking about a 1-yr program?

Hi Namita,

Thanks for your response and guidance. I am not looking for 20 month employee sponsored program. I would be open to do a 2 year regular MBA program as well but I am not too keen to give CAT (or NMAT etc) which I believe is a pre-requisite for these programs. I am working and would be difficult for me to give the necessary time required to prepare for these. I have already give my GMAT. Hence I am looking at programs that accept GMAT for entrance.

Obvious choices are ISB and PGPX (this is IIM A 1 year programs for individuals >5 years experience). Apart from these 2, I would like to know if there are other similar programs (which accept GMAT) which have a good standing in market and good career prospects. I am interested in strategy/ consulting/ general management profile. Currently I am a finance specialist.

Regards

Among the Indian B-schools are IIM Bangalore/ Indore EPGP, IIM Lucknow- International Program in Management for Executives, SP Jain -PGMP. You have missed the deadlines of most of these for this year, but these programs are generally for people with more than 5 years of work experience, so you can still apply next year.

What is your criteria for selecting b-schools outside India?

http://www.scoredetails.com/ has a list of colleges accepting GMAT score. Go to their individual website to find which program suits you.
For everyones benefit. The One Year Full Time MBA (IIM, ISB) etc is a regular MBA. Not an executive mba which is a part time course. There is nothing called a Full Time Executive MBA. Full Time MBA can be One Year regular MBA (the only format offered in Europe) and 2 year regular MBA (primary format offered in USA)

Overcoming Risk in businessThe right level of risk aversion depends on the size of the investment. CEOs making decisions about large, unique investments are typically more risk averse than overconfident—and they should be, since failure would cause financial distress for the company.Understanding the source of risk aversionMuch of the typical risk aversion related to smaller investments can be attributed to a combination of two well-documented behavioral biases. The first is loss aversion, a phenomenon in which people fear losses more than they value equivalent gains.http://www.hugheseducation.com/EPFRIM

Hi ,

I have recently come across a 12 week Management Education Program(MEP) from IIM Indore.

I am having a work experience of 66 months in IT MNC .

Currently,I am leading a team of 6 resources.

Please let me know if this will be of any help for my future in terms of Salary and from the perspective of moving up the ladder.

I am aware that one year executive MBA should be more apt for me now,but just curious to know the

prospects of such short term program in today's scenario.

Thanks in anticipation.

Yours truly,

Abhishek
