Financial Risk Manager [FRM] by GARP

hi guy,
I am also there for FRM 2008 race. Can anybody compare course material from Pristine, ACE, Schweser FRM and Bionic Turtle. Please provide incites in this regard.
thanks and regards,
Dora

Hi,
Iam a 2008 FRM aspirant. I would like to know if anyone has used Bionic Turtle material as a primary reference for the exam? How does it compare with Schweser. I've been going through Bionic Turtle's site and I find the samples very interesting. But at the same time I am a little apprehesive about subscribing to it as it looks to be relatively new to FRM training compared to schweser and it looks to be a one man show (I only see David Harper's name everywhere in the site)
It would be very helpful if someone could throw some light on this issue.

Regards,
Bigb

Hi buddy,

Unfortunately last years FRM maestros are not currently active in this thread, to give a review on the Bionic Turtle.

But as far as I have read and watched Bionic Turtle, I do like their products.

Bionic Turtle has been 4 years in to FRM, and its owner David Haraper is the singlemost and best resource on FRM in this world. His advise and guidance are pretty good, also he is pretty quick in responding to Queries and all. Looks like you havent read his articles on FRM, they would definitely make an interesting read.

At 299 USD(1200 INR) applicable till May1, I think its quite reasonably priced. Probably I would signup for their program.

That said, Again one cannot ignore the Schweser Program.

FRM exam is getting tougher day by day and the GARP is following a policy of restricting entry to the FRM. So it makes sense to study & practise using diverse materials, before we sit for the final exam.

In my personal opinion, I absolutely need to have these study materials.

1. FRM Handbook 4th Edition
2. GARP Core Readings 2008
3. Bionic Turtle
4. Schweser FRM

cheers,

Shyam

Hi all,
This is the first time I am posting here. I am Harsh, an engineering graduate working with an IT firm in fin products.I am planning to take FRM 2008. I have started with Hull, which is undoubtedly a great book.
In fact I was planning to go thru the core readings first, but it is very difficult to find the books online. I have tried esnips,4shared and a couple of more sites, but failed to get referenced books of the required editions.
Has anyone found some ref book an any site(apart from Hull, which is found everywhere, and handbook which I'm not going to need soon). Can u plz plz share the links,as the core readings on GARP is too costly , and buying a book for a couple of chapters is not my idea.

Keep up the tempo....This is a great forum we have here.

Cheers:),
Harsh

Hi all

This is my first query in the forum, an I hope these lines fall under some watchful eyes.

I was going through this long thread for quite a while and I have a question(someone else also asked the question before me but I did not see a reply)

Being an IIT grad, and only that, what are the prospects for me? Is FRM in itself a sufficient certification to enter a craved financial risks arena or should it be complemented with some other degree or certification(for example, an MBA or some finance certificate)?

Regards!

Hi,
You can find Gallati's Risk Management and Capital Adequacy here-
Link

I don't think you can get all the material listed in study guide online (You may only get related material on same topic).. I've been trying for a long time.

Hi Friends,
I am going to do my MBA(Insurance) in the year 2008-2010 from National Insurance Academy School of Management (NIASoM). I have certain queries. I would like the seniors and other puys to help me out please..

1) Alongwith with my MBA(Insurance), can i do any other course which would add to my profile and strengthen it, so that i get good placement and better job profile and which also adds to my knowledge at my workplace after 2 years of my MBA. Please suggest some courses to me if any for that. Apart from this, I don't like Maths much. So, please also consider this while suggesting me some options.

2) I went through all the posts of this threads. But still I am not very clear that what FRM and PRM are all about. What are these courses. Please also tell me will these courses help me in and after my MBA(Insurance)...?

I await your suggestions and opinions...
Thanking you,

Shalin Jain

Hi All,

I read in one of the thread that some of the chapters are missing in the Core readings and Schweser material available in Lakshmi Xerox.

can anybody confirm me whether it is the case and if it is so then any source for the complete set of matetrials.

Thanks
Girish

Hi Girish,

Yep, its true

I do have last years Core Reading 2007 with me, and many chapters are missing in them.

This is because, GARP releases the Core Readings phase by phase, so in the 1st phase many chapters will be missing. By around Aug-sept Garp will release all chapters in Core Readings.

Similarly, only the 5 Study notes are available of Schweser FRM, rest of the materials are not available with Laxmi Xerox. I havent checked if any pages or chapters are missing in the same.

cheers,

Shyam

Hi Girish ... you can get the photocopies for the core readings / scheweser / GARP (respective approximate costs are Rs 2000 , 2000 and 700) handbook are available at the address mentionaed below:

Laxmi Copy centre

Besides these u'll need HULL(around 350) and Gujrati ( around 400) available at any of the regular bookstores.

Girish

I knew that my answer was silly, but theres no way out, except to buy direct from Schweser

well Shyam,

Count me in for this.

This takes ur count to 4.

I have been searching relentlessly for last few days rather few weeks for the material on FRM but not much is abvailable and eventually everytime I stumble upon CFA (CFAI, USA) materials.

Girish

Girish

I knew that my answer was silly, but theres no way out.

As earlier mentioned the best way is to form a group of 5-6 people and directly order the Schweser / Core Readings - I have already posted the benefits of ordering Schweser in a group, in my earlier post.

Currently I have found only 3 people showing interest in this.

- Myself (Mumbai)
- Catparanoid(Mumbai)
- Andy_jaan(Chennai)

I guarantee you that you will not find the complete sets of notes, Unless and until the guys from Laxmi Xerox takes some initiative in this direction.

ATB in ur search, please do let me know If you get the Full sets, I will share the costs with you for the notes.

cheers,

Shyam
