Financial Risk Manager [FRM] by GARP

Hi all,

Know what!! no FRM certified professional will reveal their compensation information, thats because its considered to be CONFIDENTIAL.

But now for all my fellow PGites, I will reveal some INSIDER Information on compensation

A Fresher FRM can earn anywhere about Rs.5,000 pm for a start.

Yes!! (Five Thousand Indian Rupees per month).

Also, if you do not have Excellent academic records(Merit Rank holder-10th & 12th) or Good work exp, then you will need to work FREE for atleast 2 years, and mind you - u wont get anty workex cert at the end of it. :)

So I hope you register for the FRM pretty quickly and take opportunity for working FREE after clearing the FRM exam.

LOL!!! :biggrin::biggrin:

Dear Friends,

hi
can anybody tell me kind of packages a fresh FRM can get ?

Hi buddy,

If u r interested in Securities Research and Debt Markets its better u pursue the CFA (AIMR) course.

In FOREX, if you are looking at profiles in Arbitrage/Hedging this program can be of some help.

cheers,

Shyam

Hi buddy,

Dont pursue both together, it will be difficult to manage.

A common problem quoted by all CFA Aspirants this year, is that the Syllabus is quite vast. Also FRM exam covers length & breadth in Risk Management and hence need a lot of reading.

To add to it, u will be working in some firm after ur MBA, so this will leave u with a very less time to prepare for one single exam, Forget cracking both of them.

So my advise would be to stick with any one course for this Year, pursue either FRM or CFA - U have plenty of time to prepare for both these exams.

All the best

cheers,

Shyam

Hey ssu039,
I am interested in FRM.But I am really confused between FRM and PRM.PRM is apparantly more flexible but less recognized.I am giving Actuary ct3 n ct7 modules this oct. is it feasible to prepare for FRM alongside with my preparations for actuary, and my 5th semester which is supposedly the tuffest one in my dept. in IIT :)
Please clear my doubts on PRM n FRM.

Hey Akshay,

Actuaries itself very comprehensive and has an exhaustive content, however CT3 & CT7 should be fine with a 2 months prep as CT3 should be a cakewalk, but you may need to go through CT7 as it might be an alien subject. If you go through the syllabus you would find that CT8 has lot of similarity with the FRM syllabus. In the actuaries course if you have completed/thorough with CT1, CT3 then taking CT8 is a good option.
Since lot of topics overlap from actuaries to FRM, i think you can you use it to your advantage . Especially go through CT1 & CT3 .

BTW, i am also in the same boat as you . I have couple of actuaries exams scheduled this May and would give a couple in October

The thread already has some inputs on FRM V/S PRM . FRM as you said is widely recognized than PRM but PRM is much more flexible in terms of appearing for the exam. Also, it is observed that PRM is more quant oriented when compared to FRM . You may revisit some of the older posts for more discussions on this .

TC,
K.K.

Hi Akshay,

Read the post #368 on this thread, for ur answers on FRM vs PRM

Regarding Actuarial Papers.

CT3 - Probability & Mathematical Statistics will directly overlap with Quantitative Risk Module.

CT7 - Economics - There will be on ovelap wih FRM.

Shyam

Please tell me in detail about the exemptions one can get in cfa n actuaries after clearing PRM.

I think its the other way round.....U get exemption in PRM if you have CFA degree..........from your earlier post it seems you r running too fast of time......calm down do one thing at a time........either finish your actuarial or PRM or CFA...........If you have enrolled for your actuarial do that only.......

Hi Guys,

From a thread posted in 2007, I have learnt that It only needs 10 applicants from a location, for it to be qualified as an exam site or test center. Can any one please make it clear if this is true, and also if hyderabad is eligible to be a test center or not.

Surya

hi surya,

I suppose there is some provision as such.

GARP : Global Association of Risk Professionals

The 2008 FRM examination site list, states the site information will be available shortly. So wait for some time, or rush this query to the FRM officials at GARP : Global Association of Risk Professionals

Always RELY on Official comments,

Hi all...i have been following this thread for the last one week and i wanted to thank shyam and others for all the efforts they have put in to help people like me...who had very little knowledge and resources for pursuing the exam...

my first query to puys here is about scholarship provided to students as one of my cousin who would also be giving her FRM this year is currently pursuing her mba...how can she apply for scholarship...the site does have a student scholarship section but it's very vague...can people with relevant knowledge enlighten me and others who are not aware of the modalities...thanks in advance...

Well done Santosh

Good that u clarified from GARP.

It would be better, if you could post ur query and the mail contents for others to refer.

ATB, Now u have to be pretty aggressive in getting the Hyderabad guys to register for FRM

Cheers,

Shyam

Hi,

Heres the link for the same

http://www.garp.com/frmexam/download/Scholarships2008.pdf

some key points to know are

1] FRM awards only 100 FRM Scholarships on First Come First Serve basis.

2] Each school is entitled to a maximum of two scholarships. Participating schools can submit either:

Two full-time student applications, OR
One full-time student application + one full-time faculty application

3] Candidates should be a pursuing any Full Time program - Rules and documents required for the same are mentioned in the brochure.

4] The FRM Scholarship covers the cost of FRM registration only - 400 USD.One needs to pay the fees of 150 USD as membership Fee.

The pdf looks very clear to me, If you have any issues, then spcifically post a query.

I guess, there were some guys from FMS, Delhi in this thread who had applied for FRM Scholarship.

Alternately u can rush ur queries to the FRM Manager at [email protected]

cheers,

Shyam

Surya,

We require a minimum of 10 paid candidates to add a site. Any exam site that does not maintain 10 or more paid registrants by the end of standard registration will be closed and candidates will have to travel to a different site. The addresses and directions of all confirmed exam sites will be added later in the year.

Please email [email protected] if you have any other concerns.

Thanks,
Dan
