On an average how many applications are recieved each year for an IIM and what is the probabilty of getting in with no research background??

hi all,

nice to see such a vibrant thread but i think ppl r discussing only about FPM, actually i m intrstd in PhD from FMS, can anyone guide me about it?
I qualified UGC-JRF this year.
@hungrytiger Your JRF scores will be accepted even at the IIMs. So you should apply widely. The stipend, research support and quality will be much better at the IIMs

Dear all,

Those interested in a PhD from SJMSOM (IIT-B), applications window for the Spring intake in Jan 2013 is still open and the last date is 31st October. Follow the link below for more details:

@sb29
tx for the reply,
actually i m married now nd want to stay near delhi. d u hv any idea about it?none is discussing it...
@hungrytiger Maybe the reason no one is discussing is because no one is interested. I don't know the quality of research that goes on at FMS. It is a good brand name for MBA but not a major brand for PhD. You will be better off looking at MDI or DMS-IITD. If you are still interested then you should probably contact some professor there. They will be able to help you. Else you can find some current PhD student there on linkedin.
@sb29
What about IIT-D? how much they pay in stipend?
@hungrytiger I think 18-20k if you have a masters degree. This information should be readily available on their website.

@hungrytiger I visited IIT Delhi's home page and the first news item on the right hand side corner was PhD advertisement and Information brochure (link provided below). Getting information is simple as long as you put some effort!

Hi everyone,

I just have one doubt regarding the application process for FPM. Can I apply with both my gmat score and cat 2012 scores (awaiting for results)? And will the best of two be considered or should I apply twice with both scores separately?

Hi evryone,

I am interested for FPM.

10th-81.75%

12th-73.8%

B.Tech(ECE)-70.7%

Work Ex:4yr 9 nmonths in Indian it MNC As IT Analyst

Extra curricular activities: Quizzing and attached with a street children NGO Rupayan(under 'art of living') as fund raiser.

I have applied for CAT2012 .I have opted for all the fpm courses of IIM during cat form fill up.Do I need to apply for the FPM programmes of IIMs again with CAT reference number?

I am confused after reading some threads. Please help.

Do I have any chance to get any call from any IIM FPM progs?

Can you also tell me abut the FPM prog value from IIFM?

@sayanddude you need to apply only once for each program... i think it is better to wait for your CAT results and then provide details of the test in which you have a higher score and percentile (between CAT and GMAT) instead of providing both the scores (unless you have done extremely well in both)
@kousikdas05 "Do I need to apply for the FPM programmes of IIMs again with CAT reference number?"
Yes. Most of the FPM adverts are already out. You will find the links to those adverts on the relevant institute websites under Programs > FPM

"Do I have any chance to get any call from any IIM FPM progs?"
From the %s that you have provided, you are eligible for admission to the FPMs like all the others who have cleared the institute specified cut-offs for UG and PG programs. Since interview calls depend of a number of factors like UG/PG %, score in tests like CAT/GMAT/others, SoP, recommendation letters etc, no one can predict anybody else's chances of being invited for an interview. Just spend a reasonable time on the applications and make sure that you have put in youe best efforts to represent yourself using the forms.

"Can you also tell me abut the FPM prog value from IIFM?"
Not sure... it probably is not among the most popular programs that users of this forum consider for applying (assuming the "F" stands for "Forest"). Any inputs from seniors?

Dear All,

I am pursuing my MBA from a reputed institute in finance and only gave my CAT in 2010 , I don't have latest CAT/GMAT/NET scorecard but willing to join FPM/PhD course from a premier institute.
Do institutes also conduct their own test as qualifying exam ( RAT) or have to have these scores for applying?
If yes then pls specify the institute.

Thanks in advance
@ashish.gwl.shar IIM B and I will accept your application without any test scores. I don't think the other top IIMs will.

In addition to Shankha's input, although IIMB will accept your application without a test score (GMAT, CAT etc.) they "encourage candidates" to submit valid test scores. ( refer to the FAQs: http://www.iimb.ernet.in/doctoral/faqs ) This is understandable since the selection committee will invite roughly 200 candidates for interviews/RAT from a pool of 10x + applicants and when one has to short-list 1 in 10+, differentiating factors like excellent test percentiles, great work ex. etc. become the criteria for selection. But that does not mean you should not apply since you never know what they will like about you on your application.

@sb29 correct me if I am wrong :)
