Fpm 2013

@fpm2013 Not too broad, not too narrow. For example, don't write 'I want to research in Finance'. At the same time, don't write 'I want to see how A affects B when C and D are present'. Try to maintain a balance.

Is there any chances of researching in entrepreneurship related topics. I have a topic in mind but wondering if IIMs would take in such proposals, considering the presence of Dr. Gupta at IIM-A.

Thanks manovar for the initiative and more importantly, all the seniors who reply the posts. It means a lot to novices like me and saves a lot of time which I usually would have wasted on n number of other sites and forums.
I didn't know until recently that something like an FPM exists and was focused more on the PGP. I am passionate about teaching and hence would like to pursue an FPM.
I have few doubts, however, and that is exactly what makes me think about an FPM again (and again ;)).

1.What are the chances of employment after FPM(whether industry or academics)? 100%??
2.Any rough ideas about the salaries?
3.I love teaching, but not pretty aware of the overall 'research' concept. Please elaborate. Exactly karte kya hain wahan?
Thanks in advance.

@fpm2013 @sb29 has already answered most of your queries. Would add a bit from my side.
We have highlighted it umpteen number of time on this forum that we are not any expert on assessing candidates' profiles. Our guess is as good as your guess. Would you not apply if I say " the profile doesn't stand much chance"? or Would you apply only if I say "the profile looks decent enough"?
Forget what I or someone else has to comment on your profile. That hardly matters.
In any case you can't change it. So believe in yourself and apply.
At least this is what I did when I applied at my time.

But just make sure that you pay utmost attention to your SOP.
You can't change your profile, but you sure can do that for SOP.
Be clear as to why you would like to do a Phd and then express that in the SOP so that the answer sounds convincing to you as well as to the Professors who would evaluate your profile.

Regarding first year waiver, you could apply for it and discuss it further during your interview.

@drish Thanks for the motivation and comforting words. I am very heavily inclined towards applying for the program and I have developed a proprietory model in derivative finance for which I want to apply for a patent. Can I further my research in that particular topic? SOP of 1500-1600 words seems like too much space - don't know exactly what all to write. Also my only apprehension is the 'remuneration part' after completing the program. During the program with bare bones stipend an austere lifestyle is understandable. But after spending 5 years and getting a package of Rs.1-1.5 lac per month does not sound very attractive. Any advise on long term prospects of the program (5-10 years time frame). Thanks in advance
@fpm2013 If you want a high paying industry role, maybe FPM is not for you. @drish can correct me if I am wrong. The program is more focused towards research and academics. It is true that many people join industry after the program. But the salary expectations that you have may not be feasible. I think you would be better off doing a PGPX or any other 1 yr MBA as you already have 11 years of experience.

@sb29 Thanks for your reply. I'm more inclined towards FPM. Its a tough call now as I appeared for an interview of PGPX and I am expecting a reply in last week of Oct. If I am selected and choose not to take the offer, I face the risk of not getting selected in FPM and having to wait for another year.
@fpm2013 You can surely continue your work in finance. I would suggest you go through the profiles of Finance Professors at IIMA, and see if you find someone of your interest.
Writing 1500 words may initially seem to be cumbersome, but believe me when you actually pen down all your thoughts and then try to structure it, 1500 words wudnt seem that much. First of all try to write all that you would want to highlight, and then go about editing or restructuring.
It is quite normal to think about renumeration part. But if it reassures you, we have quite a few FPM students here who have left high-paying jobs to come for PhD, and they seem to be fine with the stipend (currently at around Rs 20000 per month for first-second years). Regarding renumeration post FPM, well you could get into any finance firm which visits IIMA (past FPMs have gone to some of the big fin firms). Anyways, teaching is anyways there, and any good private school will pay you (even today) more than what you have mentioned. In 5 years time, it will only increase. Plus do not forget the consulting assignments which come along with teaching.
@drish What is the typical pay for an A/P in private business schools? Just for my own info (and future use )
@sb29 (The figure I quoted was from what I have heard here..So I may be wrong) Salary varies across private B-Schools as well, but on an average you can expect in excess of Rs 1 lac per month..On the higher side, some schools can pay more depending on their requirement and candidate's profile..this does not include the earnings from consulting/MDP, which in many cases could be much more than your salary..

Dear All,

IIMK application is open.

To the members who are current or past FPM students of IIMB;

Could you please share details about the schedule/class hours, time spent in class room? I am a mid-level IT professional (7+ years experience) and planning on quitting job if I get into the FPM program. I don't expect to have super flexibility as in a software job, but it would be really helpful to get some insights on what's in store and what to expect.

Thanks for your time! I really appreciate it.

How is the UGC-JRF applicant's possibility to get into FPM with IIMs and XLRI? Though in ads. they write it as an entrance eligibility at par with CAT/GMAT & GRE? Can any one throw some light on to it?

Hi all,

I am interested in pursuing FPM from the IIMs/ISB. I had appeared for GMAT last weekend, but couldn't send my scores to ISB and IIMC since their FPM programmes were not listed there. Moreover, in ISB's website, the programme code for FPM is mentioned, but I couldn't find any option in GMAT's website to send the scores by providing programme code. They allow you to send scores based on college and program name only, which doesn't include ISB FPM.

Wanted to know how we can send scores to different college programs using programme code.

Thanks,
Sumit
@Xenomorph You need to submit a copy of the final score report that you receive (student's copy) which includes the AWA scores. You should get that within 3 weeks. No need to send the official scores. I had sent my score to ISB's PGP program. But that was unnecessary.

For people interested in ISB, the INSEAD alliance seems to have ended. Also, the latest batch profile is on the website. Profiles look quite competitive.
